Our Blooming Youth was beautiful and even in Korea it reached a 5% above average for a weekday show which is quite good. A weekend could have meant higher ratings. It was #1 globally for Viki and is still features in one of their most popular category.
BORA DEBORAH IS SOO UNDERRATED!!! yoo in na still slays the role, and showed a lot more of complicated expressions, its just probably because of the tv station it was aired on, and limited access,,, i mean the plot was going at a very great pace, not too predictable, the acting was amazing, chemistry was on point,, i feel like the post-breakup period of the FL was soo realll despite her actions being questionable, its very logical to happen, even every decision the FL or the ML made to deal with their past lovers tho it can contradict with the viewers wants,it still depicts a more mature and self-healing way of dealing with things,, really teaches true stuff.. the relationship of her bestfriend was also veryyy real, and i havent seen a lot like that in kdramas, where it involves trust and unwaivered love even with the some love spark issue... and finally her younger sister's relationship was the cute plot of the drama with ju-ne of ikon,, very exciting to see,, even the ceo's relationship was very realistic and plays with the trope of chance of being in love at an older age.
I think this list is a good showcase that low viewership doesn't always mean it's bad. Sometimes it just had little to no marketing or just doesn't appeal to the widest audience or just has a bad airing schedule. For example "the Killing Vote" is a great show, but it only releases weekly and they even made a two week pause because of a holiday and sport event. That will just always hurt the ratings, many drop because the pace doesn't work with weekly release or they wait until everything aired, which then off course makes the ratings look worse.
I actually enjoyed “Our Blooming Youth”. Maybe not knowing the original material was an advantage. I also enjoyed “Joseon Attorney” a lot, too. “Bora! Deborah” became one of my favorite rom-coms because, for me, the chemistry of the leads was fantastic. Don’t really know the lead actress’ other dramas so I didn’t have any expectations. Just watched this series with delight!
I LOVED Bo RA Deborah! and Our Blooming Youth. I though BoRa Deborah was pretty realistic about how long it takes to get over a loved one. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
@@maureenjohnson4761 Yup. She wanted to marry him after all and were together for years. Some people found the grieving period too long, but I think it just highlights how she slowly but surely got out of the rut and found herself again. (And someone new.)
D.P. 2 was an excellent show... But after season 1 the expectations were so sky high it was too hard to achieve it... First season hit the right chord inside because we haven't seen such a good drama on such sensitive topic... season 2 was good but failed to generate those emotions and it felt repetitive but the script was brilliant again
It's repetitive cus viewers fail to see the big picture, they don't understand that season had 6 eps and so did season two, they're the same drama, they were split up in two parts. At the end of season 1 few ppl were klled so it was obvious that the season two was a continuation of that incident (which happened irl btw) that's why I didn't have as much fun as the first season. Imagine trying to have fun when ppl are getting mrdered and u are aware of that, it's impossible.
I dont think celebrity was a bad show. It did go on and on for a while but overall it was setting up to show how social media works and i didnt mind the lack of chemisty between those actors because the show was more talking about how e-celebrities survive and function than a romance. Not everything needs to be a romance people.. gosh.
@@bunnybutcher do you see how many kdrama appears on that list 😅 it really rare and if you think like that series had number equal to Japanese drama Alice in Borderlands season 2 not season 1 which got Season 3 so it's good number 😅
The biggest problem with bora was the first 3 episodes you had to sit thru before it started to get good. This happens a lot in k dramas. Fighting thru first to 3rd episode before it takes a turn and picks up. Viewers probably gave up around episode 2 but what made this a great show was the devopling stories around bora, like her sister and the married best friend. Lots of 😂😂 moments after that 3rd episode. If you started it, please go back and finish it, it will not let you down.
their real problem is that there have been a lot of good k dramas this year and one only has time to watch so many. Some of these are on my list and I will get to them when I can and some just look uninteresting - which is another problem with kdramas - it is impossible to know what is in store based upon a still image or 1 minute teaser. I ignored My Mister for over a year because the premise on netflix looked dumb and boring - and yet i have watched it several times since then and consider it one of the best pieces of tv I have ever seen by at least an order of magnitude.
My Mister is one of the best dramas that k-industry has ever produced and it holds such an impact on you that you couldn't get over of it for a certain period of time. Every drama that I watched after My Mister seemed less than what I experienced.
Mask Girl was amazing. People complain about Korean dramas having barely a kiss, but when they show something slightly exclipt, its problem as well, even though it fits the story... Powerful acting and good massage there. I also liked The Secret Romantic Gueshouse, definitely good historial, though not among the best.
I liked Celebrity. When I go far enough in to know what it would be about, I thought I would not like it. I ended up really enjoying it. I also enjoyed Deborah. There was nothing bad about that show at all.
Personally mask girl , D.P and Celebrity is amazing and it might not be for everyone though but I really loved it. And especially internationally they topped the Netflix charts etc.
I actually agree with her., celebrity was dragged, mask girl wasn't promoted enough, but to people reading comments and didn't watched these shoes yet,you should really go for these two.
I can't believe Mask Girl and Celebrity! I loved "Mask Girl", it's one of the best Kdramas I've seen and currently I'm binging "Celebrity" and loving everything about the drama!! 🤯
I loved, loved, loved Joseon Attorney. In my personal opinion, it was absolutely a hit. Also, I personally loved the story in Out Blooming Youth. I don't know about the cultural factors and all, and I honestly wasn't excited about Jeon So Nee starring in it as well, but I really liked the story line.
The actress playing the sister of the ML was great. Wish she had been the FL. She made such impact and emotion in just a tiny bit of screen time. What the King did to her made me unable to care about the ending of it the King "won" or not.
I just finished mask girl and it was a great show. It was a really good show I absolutely loved it. The girls playing the one charachter and the crazy mom were excellent.
mask girl was everything and i truly loved it. it had the suspense and mystery that i was needing in “celebrity”. the only reason i can believe the show didn’t do as well as it couldve is because of poor marketing. as far as “celebrity” goes i agree with everything that was said. the show just left a lot to desire with the underdeveloped characters, the relationship and just the plot as a whole. it felt like the show was aiming to be a mystery but because certain elements were over dramatic where they didn’t need to be and others were underdeveloped it just felt a little cheesy in the end and more like a parody of a mystery. 😬🤷🏾♀️
D.P 2 was amazing in my opinion. You got to see how Jun-ho's own comrades became fed up with their treatment like Suk-bong and how traumatized Jun-ho became. And the (upcoming spoiler) USB drive drama had me hooked .Believe me when I say it is not repetitive. The plot of one person just often leaks into other episodes as to avoid plot holes 🕳
I agree and plus I think they could totally do another season. I something get board of kdramas and don't finish them, but this drama had me hooked the whole it was deep and more meaningful and I could not guess what would happen next.
Ratings are relative though. They depend greatly on outside factors too. A lot of hit shows with high ratings were at peak time slots with an audience that incorporated a wide audience demographic (not just younger people or older people, etc.). I wouldn’t consider a drama a flop just based off of viewership.
Say what you want about Celebrity, but their chemistry. Their chemistry was 🔥🔥🔥 that revolver door scene? *Ooof* the only problem with their chemistry was not enough scenes to squeal over! 😂
I love love love Bora Deborah. It’s funny and cute but also very realistic and real. The characters felt real and has depth beyond just being silly and funny. The pee scene had me ROLLING
I still don't know how the secret romantic guesthouse was was a flop. I loved it. I never liked historical kdramas but this drama raised my expectations.
I loved "Mask Girl" too, but like "Tomorrow," it's a tough show to watch sometimes. I don't think the tripartite structure helped since you had to become invested in the character all over three separate times. I understand why they did it and maybe it was the only way they could do it but I think that was also a factor. Regardless, I think it's a great show that will hopefully be discovered by more people as time goes along.
Tomorrow was so good but I admit at the beginning is a little boring but I was so invested with the female lead , the hurt and agony she felt ,ugggh!! And I know the story didn’t dwell on a love line but the chemistry of the two leads is burning that is agonizing to watch especially on the female parts❤
I loved “Joseon Attorney” this year , but, overall, I feel like 2023 has NOT delivered in the drama department. Especially when we think of the amazing ones we got in ‘21 and ‘22 🤷🏻♀️
It comes down to personal taste. I thought that My Perfect Stranger, A Time Called You, See You in My 19th Life, and Moving were as good as the better shows I watched last year. On the other hand, I still haven't finished Joseon Attorney. I thought it started okay, but went downhill in the middle of the season. When it comes to period dramas, I liked Our Blooming Youth a lot more.
the only one that did drama department justice this year so far is king the land. 2022 kdramas just set the bar really high with 2521, woo young woo and business proposal. We got hits after hits.
@@Gummeyy I don't think King the Land in any way as good those shows you mention from last year. There was great chemistry between the leads, but that's about it. What little plot they had was very superficial - seemed mostly like a thinly veiled excuse to put the two leads together in different situations.
@@donviajero2580 yeah but that’s the closest one we’ve got so far in term of public opinion and popularity. I would also add ‘bloodhounds’ and ‘the good bad mother’ but those two ratings weren’t as high as i expected them to be.
@@Gummeyy But King the Land, apart from the ML's fine acting, was a rehash of many other dramas, nothing original. Like a bad copy of Secretary Kim with a dash of a few other similar ones. Same old tropes, same old tropes. I mean, I did watch it till the end, but it's disappointing when you already know what will come next.
Totally agree with the list. The only exception is Mask Girl which I totally enjoyed and thought it was unique & amazing since I'm a fan of murder thriller genre.
Mask Girl and Celebrity are one of the MOST underrated series in Korea but it peaked in netflix tho. These two dramas are REALLYYYY good, so much twists and it has no boring scene.
Honestly, Our Blooming Youth wasn't bad at all. It had an intriguing plot, and while yeah, the FL took a while to warm up to, it was overall an interesting show that kept my interest. Mask Girl on the other had I dropped immediately. The subject matter was way too harsh for me.
Personally, I loved Bora Deborah ,Heavenly Idol and Celebrity. Bora Deborah was specially good and definitely worth the hype. Celebrity didn't have too many scenes with the leads so that they could showcase their chemistry because it was too focused on the plot, the revenge ect.. which wasn't exactly a bad thing, Heavenly Idol was really hilarious and quite good.
I actually loved bo ra Deborah but I hated that she was heartbroken for 8 eps straight and like nothing else happens than her crying or fighting with the ml and then the end was basically rushed just disappointing
I totally get why Celebrity was on there. There was potential for that drama, but having no real screen time with leads, when the chemistry was so good, was crazy stupid.
I mean… celebrity was good and interesting when it began, but it became so flat and cliche towards the end. I was expecting it to be more revengeful like the glory and less like… whatever those poorly made plot twists were 😂
Je n’ai pas du tout été déçue par DP 2. L’acteur principal a fait un très bon travail ainsi que ses coéquipiers. J’attends DP3 pour connaître la suite.
I'm surprised Joseon Attorney didn't do better. I thought the plot was interesting and the performances were good. There were several points at which they avoided making the obvious choice and did something that was surprising in the moment but which made sense when you looked back at what led up to them. Heavenly Idol was a real disappointment, though. Too many subplots and not great chemistry made it uncompelling and even tedious by the end. I only stuck with it because of Kim Min Kyu and hope he has opportunities for better parts after his military service.
it's because Bona isn't such a treat to watch lmao. I personally didn't feel their chemistry. But I think the story itself is nice and I liked everyone else in it- especially Do Hwan, his sister and the second lead.
The rating ...could be valid strictly for Korea and only in the week when it is broadcast. If you calculate the number of hours and, above all, the rewatch rate on streaming platforms (not only Netflix but also others, less famous but free of country restrictions) the ranking is different. The best example is KtL, which is appreciated in India and highly criticized in the Middle East. With streaming, the broadcast time no longer exists, the traffic/show/episode is relevant.
But if the show showed first on Korea tv then the rating is being seen as most important. It doesn’t matter what outside of Korea has to say because if the rating isn’t high in Korea, it’s a flop.
Yes however the advertisements are shown when the drama airs on Korean TV and are geared to the Korean audience. So are the product placements in the drama and names of sponsors at the end of the episodes. Therefore, the advertisers are only interested on how many Koreans watch their ad. If the viewers are few, the advertisers won't want to pay for their product to be shown in the next . episode. (It's not a deal done beforehand for all episodes, most of the time its a "let's start with a few episodes and we'll see how it goes"). These shows live from ads! So of course for production companies and TV channels this is super important! And even if the production company makes money from selling the rights to international streaming platforms, it's little consolation.
It confirms to me once again that actresses like Park Gyu Young, Jo Bo Ah, or Im Soo Hyang need "special care" when it comes to finding the perfect male co-star for them. To get that real spark out of them and deliver some chemistry.
@@kulapnitnaya9381because they are considered the pretty actresses even though they are bad with acting. I wouldn’t be surprised that they were the benefit of casting couch because they are pretty. This happens in Hollywood all the time
Mask girl is one of the best K-Dramas I've ever seen. I understand that the premise seems kind of convoluted/too much, but the director and actors absolutely nailed it and the plot twists were iconic. give this show a try to atleast ep 3 i swear you will not be disappointed!

Sageuk K-Dramas have steadily declined in ratings within South Korea. Long gone are the days when series such as Queen Seondeok (35.1%), Dong Yi (24.5%), The Princess’ Man (17.2%), Deep Rooted Trees (18%), Empress Ki (21.9%), Flowers in the Prison (17.3%), Love in the Moonlight (16.9%) and Mr. Sunshine (12.9%) commanded viewers’ attention and dominated the weekly nationwide ratings. Series like Mr. Queen (12.5%) and, The Red Sleeve (11%) and Under the Queen’s Umbrella (12%) have become the exception rather the norm. Between 4% and 8% on average nationwide has pretty much become what Sageuk K-Dramas have become expected to accumulate. Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung (6.3%), Nokdu Flower (6.6%), The King’s Affection (7.6%), Poong, the Joseon Psychiatrist (4.7%), The Forbidden Marriage (4.0%) and Bloody Heart (6.6%) are examples. The King’s Affection (2021), The Forbidden Marriage (2022) and Bloody Heart (2022) have each one critical acclaim and multiple awards.
Basically when they stopped following history and started making their own fictional worlds in a Joseon setting. There is the odd exception every now and then, like Mr Sunshine and Nokdu Flower (though even those are years ago now), but you very rarely find serious sageuks anymore. Perhaps because the global audience doesn't care for Korean history that much, and the trend these days is for fewer episodes. Personally, I think it's a shame.

Heavenly Idol was really great for me, I like the chemistry between the leads and the storyline is also enjoyable to watch
Bora Deborah was very good to watch, Im sad it didn't get what it deserved
I actually enjoyed “Our Blooming Youth”. Maybe not knowing the original material was an advantage. I also enjoyed “Joseon Attorney” a lot, too. “Bora! Deborah” became one of my favorite rom-coms because, for me, the chemistry of the leads was fantastic. Don’t really know the lead actress’ other dramas so I didn’t have any expectations. Just watched this series with delight!
I agree, I really enjoyed both those dramas. I waited excitedly for episodes!
I LOVED Bo RA Deborah! and Our Blooming Youth. I though BoRa Deborah was pretty realistic about how long it takes to get over a loved one. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
@@maureenjohnson4761 Same here.
@@maureenjohnson4761 Yup. She wanted to marry him after all and were together for years. Some people found the grieving period too long, but I think it just highlights how she slowly but surely got out of the rut and found herself again. (And someone new.)
Bora Deborah was good. Portrayed break up so realistically.
Not everything needs to be a romance people.. gosh.
Bora Deborah is one of my favorite Kdramas of 2023!
I love the message behind the Celebrity, it really talks about the dark side of social media. If misused, it can be harmful to anyone.
D.p was amazing both season 1 and 2 and I don't think it's a let down just under rated
Celebrity was not a flop because it is on top 10 among world wide viewership on Netflix for one month on realise 😢 please ensure before saying
Exactly I followed the ott showcass serie too dp2 tooo also did really welll
Because it had weak competition. If you look like the overall streaming numbers it’s low comparing to other kdrama on Netflix
@@bunnybutcher do you see how many kdrama appears on that list 😅 it really rare and if you think like that series had number equal to Japanese drama Alice in Borderlands season 2 not season 1 which got Season 3 so it's good number 😅
Every new release tops. But only a few really live up to the number.
I loved My Lovely Boxer (and I don't like boxe!). The story was unusual, the acting was fantastic and the chemistry sizzling.
My Mister is one of the best dramas that k-industry has ever produced and it holds such an impact on you that you couldn't get over of it for a certain period of time. Every drama that I watched after My Mister seemed less than what I experienced.
Celebrity and mask girl were such good kdrama’s it talked about society, social media, and insecurities, which are real things that are happening.
For me bora de-Deborah was amazing it was really amazing how the actors portraited their roles❤
The Celebrity was such an incredible drama. The chemistry between the main characters was unusual but so good.
I just love bo ra deborah
I don't know why the drama is in that list😢
I love Mask girl so much. There is a lesson in the story.
I can't believe Mask Girl and Celebrity! I loved "Mask Girl", it's one of the best Kdramas I've seen and currently I'm binging "Celebrity" and loving everything about the drama!! 🤯
The chemistry between ML and FL in Celebrity was amazing, I just need a bit more screentime with them
I loved Mask Girl. All actors were awesome!
To me what made Joseon Attorney hard to watch was Bona’s lack luster acting. WDH and the SML was great, hilarious
I like because of the guy
But I wish they was more to the story
The actress playing the sister of the ML was great. Wish she had been the FL. She made such impact and emotion in just a tiny bit of screen time.
What the King did to her made me unable to care about the ending of it the King "won" or not.
Got bored quickly the writing was vad
@@thanaaabdullah3452fr WDH def carries the show srry but watching bona felt like watching a rookie actress 😭
Why how Bora Deborah was rated low!!!!It was an amazing drama
I loved celebrity from start to finish. And the chemistry of the leads was so captivating that I wanted them to have more scenes
Bora Deborah is one of the best rom com drama I’ve ever watched
D.P 2 was amazing in my opinion.
You got to see how Jun-ho's own comrades became fed up with their treatment like Suk-bong and how traumatized Jun-ho became. And the (upcoming spoiler) USB drive drama had me hooked .Believe me when I say it is not repetitive. The plot of one person just often leaks into other episodes as to avoid plot holes 🕳
I agree and plus I think they could totally do another season. I something get board of kdramas and don't finish them, but this drama had me hooked the whole it was deep and more meaningful and I could not guess what would happen next.
I love Bora Deborah.. it's more realistic compared to celebrity
And to many other kdramas.
Ratings are relative though. They depend greatly on outside factors too. A lot of hit shows with high ratings were at peak time slots with an audience that incorporated a wide audience demographic (not just younger people or older people, etc.).
I wouldn’t consider a drama a flop just based off of viewership.
I loved celebrity it honestly had a good plot and it gave a similar vibe to the glory
Say what you want about Celebrity, but their chemistry. Their chemistry was 🔥🔥🔥 that revolver door scene? *Ooof* the only problem with their chemistry was not enough scenes to squeal over! 😂
Mask Girl was a hit internationally ngl maybe not in Korea but a lot of people were talking about it on TikTok
Idk how people hated Our blooming youth. That show was fantastic
Totally agree with the list. The only exception is Mask Girl which I totally enjoyed and thought it was unique & amazing since I'm a fan of murder thriller genre.
Bora Deborah made me have butterflies…I’m sad it flopped. The storyline was good.
I really loved Joseaon Attorney it’s so underrated
Mask Girl was totally different from what we usually get. Everything from the storyline to the acting. Definitely a drama worth watching!
I actually loved bo ra Deborah but I hated that she was heartbroken for 8 eps straight and like nothing else happens than her crying or fighting with the ml and then the end was basically rushed just disappointing
Mask Gilr was actually pretty good. I like dark Kdramas like that
Celebrity is so damn underrated
Bora Debora was actually funny and fluffy I liked it
Mask Girl and Bora Deborah were quite enjoyable❤
I totally get why Celebrity was on there. There was potential for that drama, but having no real screen time with leads, when the chemistry was so good, was crazy stupid.
I loved Celebrity! It is exactly what we are seeing now. It tells you how it all works.
Mask Girl was actually good though. It’s underrated like “glitch” and “somebody”
@@bunnybutchermaybe for koreans but not for international viewers.
Currently on the final episode of mask girl. All the actors here are amazing. A bunch of well played villains
Duty After School is really good but i dont like the ending, tbh i need an explanation
Our Blooming Youth is a really good dramaaaa. One of my top dramas actually
It confirms to me once again that actresses like Park Gyu Young, Jo Bo Ah, or Im Soo Hyang need "special care" when it comes to finding the perfect male co-star for them. To get that real spark out of them and deliver some chemistry.
Yeah and still wonder why are they always casted 😂.
@@kulapnitnaya9381because they are considered the pretty actresses even though they are bad with acting. I wouldn’t be surprised that they were the benefit of casting couch because they are pretty. This happens in Hollywood all the time
I loved Bora, Deborah ❤
DP2 and Celebrity really don't deserve to be on this list - I loved them
Celebrity was top tier
Borah Deborah deserves more than that.
This was a strange list as half of them were really good like Bo Deborah, Joseon Attorney and Our Blooming Youth
Mask girl is one of the best K-Dramas I've ever seen. I understand that the premise seems kind of convoluted/too much, but the director and actors absolutely nailed it and the plot twists were iconic. give this show a try to atleast ep 3 i swear you will not be disappointed!
Weird. I really liked Mask girl, Celebrity and season 2 of DP much better than season 1 of DP. The others I haven't watched yet so I wouldn't know on them.
Celebrity is such a good drama..a perfect mixture of savagery, romance, thriller and revenge
Mask girl was one of the best shows this year.. unfortunately, it didn't have a proper marketing
Celebrity was really good!!! Okay Mask girl was ok but not a flop!
For me celebrity is one of the most amazing Korean drama this year, let me say I learn a lot and no boring moment 👌
Deborah was good too. I enjoyed it!!
tbh I really loved mask girl it really captivated me to watch from start to end and gives off girl boss energy idk why it's underrated :( and I love how it's not the typical Korean high school bulling or love story.
I’ve switched to Chinese dramas since one year and can’t get enough!
Do watch many on youtube you won’t regret.
1. Because of Love( Wallace Chung’s acting is mind blowing)
2. Oath of Love( Xiao Zhan & Yang Zi are superb!)
3. A River Runs through it ( Richards Wang is a dream)
My list is endless and I even visited China recently and fell in love! 🥰🇨🇳🫰🏻
arent chinese dramas boring tho? most of the dramas ive seen have such blank facial expressions...
