After living room came out someone walked up to ryan and said the they need to work on there song writing. Ryan took that to heart and left to write pretender so yes its fully an AJR song.
No Grass Today is actually about the legalization of cannabis, and the song is their stance on it, which is that they don't smoke, but won't get involved with it, and don't mind what other people think. Edit: All opinions rejected
okay this was really really interesting to watch as someone who was a massive AJR fan around the time Neotheater dropped but lost interest since then. i’m glad you gave most of my faves from that time good reviews (next up forever and finale are insane) even if i disagree with a few picks
i have to say, this (extremely funny) video freshly introduced me to a different perspective on AJR. I've been genuinely obsessed with the band since the release of way less sad, and i have since grown extremely attached to the brothers and pretty much their entire story and discography (excluding born and bred and pretender [steve aoki version, of course]). i relate to their music so much, and theyve legitimately saved my life. just through loving them, i love all of their music, even the shitty or boring songs. im sick and tired of disrespectful 'reviews' of them, because clearly those people lacked the heart to investigate the actual souls behind this music. i appreciate you taking the time to pick apart their group, and actually caring enough to be serious about it and not just shit on them lol. thanks for giving me a cool and honest perspective to add to my musical lens, cool person :) subscribed for sure!!
@@dandelixnn oh man thank you so much for this comment! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. I completely agree I hate all the videos just bashing them and I wanted to make a video to highlight all the good stuff they’ve done if you ignore people telling you they suck.
I’m gonna be honest, I agree 100% with your top 5. I honestly don’t see how people hate the trick! It’s amazing, and the meaning of it is amazing too. (Also, Joe is a real person! In the end of Joe, it says “maybe I’ll put out this song, and I won’t change your name at all.” Which is directed towards Joe. :) )
@@peridotperson I get why people find the song a bit annoying because of the high pitched voice, it’s not just that the whole song ! People are using the voice as the only excuse to say the song is bad. And because of that, it’s so rare to find someone who likes The Trick, so yay :)
Nah inertia is one of my favorite AJR songs rn. I understand we share different tastes, but it is extremely relatable and in terms of its sound it's pretty fire. It's one of their only songs I can listen to in loops without getting bored and I do when I do something boring and wanna laugh at my situation.
Dear winter is so underrated imo, they dont get talked as much as popular song from ajr like karma and inertia. On the other note, have u heard of the artist, Madilyn Mei? She did a short cover of Steve’s going to london and ive been obsessed with her music ever since
1. Glad someone else finslly respects Finale, its tied to be my favorite sing with Mama-MCR 2. I fully expected the comments to be filled with either hate on you by fans or hate on AJR by haters but its actually pretty balanced lmao 3. Your way of presenting rankings kinda reminds me of Schaffrillas' style. Perhaps you were inspried by him?
1:23:44 the reason for this, as they have stated before (i just searched far and wide to find it but couldnt 😭), is that jacks voice simply seemed to flow better, and they believed that listeners would connect to Jack's telling of the story more than Ryan's. pretty weird. also, Ryan has just always loved the name Winter for a boy, and so he wants to name his first son Winter. it's not necessarily saying that his very first kid will be a boy (because obviously how would he know), but just that eventually, he wants to have a boy named Winter. hope this helps :)
1:22:00 I've found out over the course of my time listening to it that this song, and especially its music video has quite a bit of different interpretations to it. You say that it's about Jack desperately trying to get to the concert in time, going against the song's message. Someone else in the comments of the music video said the island represents the solitude and exhaustion he feels after the tours. Someone else interpreted the song as being related to COVID, and how AJR is just recently getting back into the grind of touring again. It's incredibly interesting to hear how people interpreted the song and music videos in different ways.
If you looked around you’d realize how many people dislike their stuff. That doesn’t mean there’s not people who like them, like you said over 9M Spotify listeners, but there are still plenty of haters. Just look at their reviews
23:30 7 years ago I first heard let the games begin and its the reason I still love AJR and to hear you make fun of it the way you did made me so sad. 59:09 its a great fucking line 😐. (2085 is my #1)
1:04:22 strong disagree here. The placement of God is Really Real right before 2085 is horrendously jarring as that song is about how they'll sing to their Dad when hes out of bed and then 2085 opens with "if someone told me I'd die at 40 I wouldn't have spent my life in bed". It's bizarre that they would open with a lyric about dying and getting out of bed when the previous song was about how their Dad is dying and is unable to get out of bed. Like I know Jack isn't capable of writing good lyrics but Jesus the placement of these ones felt especially insensitive.
To be fair most of the bad songs are when they were kids. They didn't have alot of experience and were just having fun. Have you ever looked at an old video of yourself and cringe? I bet that's how AJR feels when looking back at their old music too 😂😂😂😂
I don't really agree with the ranking especially the top 5, but it was a super enjoyable video, I listened to each song before the review, almost 4 hours to watch the video
Also I'm happy The Trick got attention it deserves. I group Humpty Dumpty and The Trick as two very underrated songs in OKO so I'm happy at least 1 got the recognition it deserves.
I actually like Thirsty unironically, I get why people don't like it, but I really do like the yodeling chorus just for the comedic shock it can bring.

I’m surprised that you did AJR’s 2010-2012 songs! I can barely push myself to listen to Born & Bred. I couldn’t listen to Joe Hawley Joe Hawley. But I did at some point. But I would never touch Born & Bred.
@@BeastyBrant11 I just don’t personally vibe with it. I don’t care for the whistling and the chorus is just okay imo. I’m not huge on the ending either. I completely get why people like it though and I sang along when they played it live, I just wouldn’t play it over some other songs.
