  • Survey View is a much-overlooked tool in Lightroom Classic, but it can really help speed up the process of reviewing, rating, and editing your photos. In this tutorial I discuss some of the things I consider when picking my photos to edit, and how I use Survey View to get it done fast!

I use Survey mode all the time. The only issue is it's taken a performance hit over the last year or so from the updates. I used it a lot to steer sets to being cohesive, have a second screen in Survey mode whilst the other one in Develop fine tuning the edit. But when doing this the Develop mode becomes sluggish. Quitting Survey on the second screen and putting it back to Library (Grid etc) fixes that issue. Shame because it was definitely my preferred second screen display option.

Interesting. Can’t say I’ve used it on a second screen more than once or twice, and not recently.

@@MichaelRungPhotography Yeh, if you are in Develop Mode one screen and use Survey for the other, its nice because its like Reference Photo except multiple shots up on screen, however you will notice a poorer performance in Develop when doing this.

Great video Michael and something I'll have to start doing. Just a question though - 4 minutes in, when you're in Survey View, you click on a few different images and they're all highlighted. If I click on one, then move to the next one, it doesn't keep the first one. What do I do to make sure each image stays in the selection?

Hey, sorry for the delayed response... at that point of the video, I was still in Grid view. You can use that to make multiple selections and then, when you enter Survey view, only those selected photos will be included. Otherwise, you are correct in that you can't select multiple images when within Survey view itself. I hope that helps clear things up!

@@MichaelRungPhotography no worries Michael, thanks for getting back to me. I actually worked out what I was doing wrong just after I sent the question, but very helpful video nevertheless.
