I disagree with that because the bible disagrees with it as well. First of all every king of Israel at that time had to have a hand written copy of the book of the law. So Solomon knew that God's law was against having wives that were not worshipers of the same God that Solomon originally worshiped. In time they got to Solomon and he agreed to let them make altars to their gods in God's own Temple of worship. That was his downfall instead of the sheer number. So if he had a thousand wives that all worshiped the same god he did then there wouldn't be a problem. That is why the bible tells us not to marry outside of our own faith. Despite the great wisdom God given to King Solomon was lost because of his lust for women. For starters God instituted marriage between one man and one woman as the two become one flesh. Polygamy in which one man has multiple wives was never permitted by God as two can be of only one flesh. The same would apply obviously with polyandry in which one women would have multiple husbands. Besides King Solomons 700 wives there were the 300 concubines. A concubine is a man or woman who cohabitates outside of marriage therefore King Solomon was also fornicating with women. Despite the great wisdom God given to King Solomon was lost because of his lust for women. For starters God instituted marriage between one man and one woman as the two become one flesh. Polygamy in which one man has multiple wives was never permitted by God as two can be of only one flesh. The same would apply obviously with polyandry in which one women would have multiple husbands.
Besides King Solomons 700 wives there were the 300 concubines. A concubine is a man or woman who cohabitates outside of marriage therefore King Solomon was also fornicating with women. This practice was also not permitted by God even though Sarah gave her husband Hagar as a concubine which she gave birth to Ishmael. We all know how that turned out.
I believe what really angered God was that King Solomon built statues honoring false Pagan gods of his wives including Queen Sheba.
