I really like the idea of this, but I'm not sure how I feel about the enemy AI. It doesn't seem like it's following any obvious rules, and definitely isn't playing optimally. A chess puzzle that relies on your opponent being an idiot seems like it defeats the point of a chess puzzle
It's not just a matter of the AI not being smart, the AI doesn't always make the same moves. That means that each solution is reliant on RNG. Basically any puzzle that relies on RNG is a bad puzzle.
i get where you're coming from, but in chess your opponent doesnt always make the same moves. real chess also relies on "RNG" and "your opponent being an idiot". i get that a puzzle game not always having the same solution is not optimal, but imo it just adds on replayability
@@TaratheTigerShark chess games aren't played against perfect opponents, but chess puzzles where you're placed in a premade board state are almost always played against optimal opponents. The whole idea is to find a forced path where you win no matter what they do. And I guess this video game doesn't have to follow the same rules as traditional chess puzzles, I just can't help but feel like it would be better if it did. You would know that you won because you found a solution, not because the computer "let" you win that time by chance. Regardless, to each their own, if you like the extra replayability I guess I can respect that
10:25 is interesting because i thought opponent blunders by not playing d2 to get a queen and preventing the king from decimating all the pieces. But then i realized he was trying to prevent the king from going to the escape point.
Some of the early challenges seemed like busy-work but as it went on and got more complicated I enjoyed watching you figure them out! Cool game, would like seeing more!
Looks like the AI ignores the obstacles (blocks or missing tiles). So the rook moving right at 22:40 makes sense since left and right on a normal board are the same, so it picked on at random not seeing it couldn't reach the king on either of those tiles
*adjusts my glasses* ummmm technically you failed every objective which says "decimate," as decimate means to destroy one in every ten, and you have destroyed all of them each time.
Ah yes, sacrifice all your pieces while accomplishing the main goal of winning the game, which necessitates that at least one of your pieces survives until the very end of the game. Sound side quest to reject, ngl.
man , i LOVE chess advanced games, i think its underrated, i mean, chess is one of the most ancient games, its fun to see people caring about it, and be creative with
Decimate all pieces is kind of an oxymoron, as decimate is typically used to describe the destruction of most, but not all, of a group 😁 Even more technically it's reduction to a tenth, but then we're more so talking about etymology than actual definition. I know its kind of a "Well, actually" but I couldn't resist 😅
19:46 Never mind pointing and laughing about how "less than" should mean exclusive, not inclusive; I've been pointing and laughing since the first level at how "decimate" should mean one tenth, not all.
I’m made my own version of chess LAST PEICE STANDING BASICALLY YOU HAVE YOUR BASIC CHESS SETUP BUT YOU HAVE TO TAKEOUT ALL OF YOUR OPPONENTS PEICES WHILE PROTECTING YORS ALSO
"Well actually, decimate means to kill a tenth! Deci = 10! Why do people keep using words not for what they meant 2000 years ago and for what everyone else means with them!?"
This is me being a nerd, but the use of 'decimate' here irks me. Decimating a force means killing one tenth of them (hence the 'deci'). If I'm not mistaken, this was done by commanders as a way of punishing soldiers who fled battle. The thing is, the word sounds really impressive, so it's used as a synonym for 'annihilate'. And yes, common usage means more than definitions, but it's still annoying for me as an English nerd.
Thanks, I bought the game immediately after seeing this. It's one of the few games I find good nowadays. (I have a very strict preference when it comes to games)
is this the fabled "chess battle advanced"?
Nope it’s not. I got baited by the last video about chess thinking it was that too
This is chess battle primitive.
Thats for icelys comment section

Any puzzle where the puzzle isn't the same every time is flawed imo. Is it really a solution when it's not consistent? Not a fan.

You might be interested in Drawback Chess, it’s free to play and there are so many variations.

The king is missing a shotgun. Or maybe the white king has more class
Definitely has more class and friends.
Missing more rules and a troll...
It would be interesting if the end card had a sprite that was just all of the pawn variants you've covered lined up in a row or in a bunch
Some of these "chess pieces as timers" levels reminds me of the artificial infinite chess setups in transfinite ordinals research.
16:09 That moment felt like a serious missed opportunity for the editor.
I can imagine xD
8:18 and he sacrificed THE ROOK!!!!!
But his opponent declined
lowkey it feels like the solutions to most of the puzzles are "retry until the AI does something stupid"
Would love to see more of this game
After this the King learns he is the mad king by the bishops. The knight helps him with mental fitness.
the art of the white king on the text boxes is adorable
That video where tyler goes """*R O O K*""" has forever altered the way I watch tyler's chess videos.
The 'difficult' Talos Principle 2 DLC is out and while the regular puzzles aren't too hard, I am _struggling_ with the golden ones.
