    I was in my last year of college and a recruiter from General Dynamics came to our little college and interview several of us seniors in the mechanical engineering group for jobs in the electric boat division of General Dynamics. Two weeks later before I graduated I had a job at General Dynamics. In 1988 I started working on the Seawolf project. The SSN21 was the first Sub General Dynamics built completely on computers. There were no drafting accepted. Alot of drawings that were drafted were completely redrawed by non engineer's. I unfortunately didn't work there long. For some reason they combined the Atlanta office where I worked and the Tampa office together. I was offered a job in Tampa but it was strictly a lateral move. No raise, promotion or money to move. My last day was May 1, 1991. I found out about two years later. General Dynamics closed the Tampa office and moved everyone that would go to Groton, CT. Man I love Atlanta, Groton just sounds cold. Plus Atlanta area is home to me.

      That is not the only flaw in this video. I did not know that the LA class attack sub on verticle launch tube. I might not know that the LA class might have some modification later on. But the Akula class attack sub of the Russian navy definitely do not have nuclear capability. If they do, then there would be no need for the Typhoon class ballistic sub. This makes me wonder the credibility of this entire video. I simply can not trust any info on it.

      @@yztiffitzy6132 , there are such things as cruise missiles ! . . . Armed with conventional & nuclear warheads ! . . .
      It's hard to believe that the Akula class (US designation for the Russian attack sub) would NOT be equipped with nuclear weapons of any kind . Like nuclear armed torpedos or cruise missiles . Plus their anti-ship missiles that they may carry . They're not a 1 trick pony , they're nuclear submarines armed w/ conventional & nuclear weapons ! . . .

    • @yztiffitzy6132
      @yztiffitzy6132 5 років тому

      @@pedrosalazar1936 Now, maybe. But back when it was designed, I doubt that the Russian have this intention in mind. Before the gulf war, cruise missiles were almost nonexistence. And the Akula class was definitely design and built before the gulf war. Those cruise missiles (might be) in the development phase during the time of Akula was built, but definitely not operational at that time. Thus, the Akula class was definitely not built with nuclear weapon capability in mind. Add on later, maybe, but not it's original purpose.

I see this fellow is wearing a red shirt so based on what he's doing someone wearing red must indicate they're job is highly specialized and requires extra training. Now for the 4 guys that are standing around watching, the only one that seems to be doing anything is the fellow who appears to be trying to make sure that red shirt doesn't fall overboard. BWDIK

    • @fred972levrai
      @fred972levrai 5 років тому +5

      @@jeanboseau9249 Nimitz class aircraft carriers are still up to date and effective, ain't they? A military system can be upgraded, and that's precisely what's happening right now to this class, and the updated Soviet era S-200 Syrian SAM shooting down an Israeli therefore perfectly up-to-date F-16 proves this approach relevance. One must also consider the fact that a well used "outdated" technology gives better results than a poorly used edge one, just remember about the Swordfishes making it possible for the Royal Navy to sink the Bismarck, or the Emirates' Mirage 2000-9 shooting down a F-22 during a red flag exercise, not to be confused with the French Rafale doing the same. There's also for any kind of system an absolute maximum defined by the laws of physics and the environment. For submarines, and particularly SLBMs, the most important factor is acoustic discretion. This class was designed to be as silent as the ocean's background noise. So, less effective than a whole new class, yes, that's precisely why the French 3rd gen. SLBMs program is already on its way. But truly outdated? Hell no!

    Curious why some of our oder SSBN's didn't make the list? I would have expected them to be more expensive than some of the modern diesels, in adjusted dollar values. In particular, the Lafayette and Maddison classes. our "41 for freedom" ballistic missile subs were one of the key platforms of the Cold War. I did many patrols on the USS Daniel Webster (SSBN 626). It was a fine machine. Far better duty than on those cramped 688's.

      и почему я не удивляюсь, когда "старую девственницу" АПЛ Virginia, которую начали разрабатывать в далеких 1990-х годах, американский канал поставил выше новейшего 885 (08850) "Ясень" который начали разрабатывать в 2005 году
      Я не утверждаю, что американские АПЛ хуже русских субмарин. Просто интересно, смогли бы американцы после краха страны как это было в СССР дальше строить подводные лодки. Рядом с русскими базами в Мексике и Канаде. И на Кубе. С ядерными ракетами возле границ.
