Bought this as my first bike. Bit older fella, not into sport bikes, and I love it. Can't wipe the smile off my face if you tried when I'm on this thing. I agree with pretty much all the points you make in the video, good stuff. Subscribed.
This smaller version is just a good bike for people with an A2 european license (up to 35KW power). We got like 15hp for A1, up to 35KW for A2 and like whatever you want for a full A license here in Europe so it's made to fit into the A2 category and it's cheaper so people who want the scrambler but cannot afford the bigger one can get the smaller one since we travel at lower speeds and a 400 is more than enough for any European roads
One of the reason most manufactures are bringing out smaller cc bikes & 400cc versions of bigger bikes is in some countries Australia, UK etc. have rules for new riders where you have to ride a Learner Approved Motorbike, the 400 fits into that category where the 800 doesn't.
I love the cinematic sequences, but instead of shortening them, maybe just stick em at the end of the video instead? Best of both worlds. No need to sit through a long ass intro to get to the review, and that part is still there for those who want to see it at the end.
wish it didn't cost so much , those scramblers look amazing and with not having any bike riding experience other then scooters, think id really enjoy it as a first bike , great video chase, always enjoy the first ride videos
I love your first ride videos, the only thing I would like to see is fly bys or a third person view of you riding the bikes. I think that would be awesome!
Yeah you guys got some funny laws in the UK. In the US you can take your driver's test with a 50cc Vespa. Then go home and ride your KTM Duke, if your 17 or so. No helmet law in Texas.
Mark Walters I'm italian, you're lucky man, here there are 300 different types of driving licenses you can take at different yo only for making more money since every license you have to pay at least 300€ 🤔
Mark Walters If you remember you posted a comment on the internet and I responded. I didnt mean any harm. In all seriousness do you think your laws are good or do you think it would be better for the whole if your laws would be stricter on motorcycle regulations and training before getting a licence? Have a nice weekend!
I can understand why on those boring straight wide roads u can only get your kicks from big capacity machines..here in the UK I would avoid those boring routes and have an absolute blast on small back country lanes where a big machine would be no better! I think you chose completely the wrong roads to form the best opinion about this bike .If u do big roads and freeways most of the time this really isn't the bike! If u live in an area with Twisties, back roads, gravel tracks and easy sandy trails do not underestimate this machine! Especially if u like the retro look
Idk if you have access to BMW's but maybe try some of them out. But I really want to see more "retro sport" and maybe some small cruisers like the Yamaha Bolts (or similar) Love your channel dude, Love your reviews and everything else.
as someone who rides in the city on a sym wolf 150cc motorcycle, i know all about having to shift before getting through an intersection haha. SUPER FUN THOUGH!
it doesnt make sense in the us but over here in the uk at 19 u have to ride a bike with no more then 47hp so it makes sense, silly laws but at least companies like ducati are trying for us xD
James Wallis man i dont know i live in germany so 400cc seems not enouth for a comfy ride on the autobahn. I ride a 2017 Sv650 48HP and its sucks to ride 6th gear 130kph on 6-7k rpm.
ye i wouldnt want a 400cc on an autobahn either aha, i know u guys can restrict any bike down to 47hp for ur a2 licence but here in the uk there are only certain bikes we can restrict
James Wallis no we are only allowed to half the power as of 2000 something. back in the day we could restrict 200hp 1.2L bikes to 48hp that was fun xD. But today we can only restrict a max of 75kw to 35kw. so 100hp to 48hp. Most of the restrictable bike only have like 80hp anyways
Your first rides videos are probably the best i can find on youtube! Probably seen all of your first rides and more! Keep up the good videos man! :D :D
that's the first thing i tought when i saw the msrp...like wtf lol, save another paycheck and get urself an mt-09 or something...8k for a 400cc lul... and that's 8k in the US, meaning europe gets it for even more...as usual
Josh Peace It's a play by harley to start gathering more people with less money. It's not exactly a bragging point that your smallest "beginners" bike is still that expensive.
I imagine the smaller engine has been made specifically for the UK (and European?) market because the power of this bike (41hp) fits perfectly for an A2 licence in the UK which is basically a licence where you are restricted to ride max 47bhp bikes because of your age.
Silll would like to see you first ride either the ktm rc390 or Duke 390. I personally ride the Duke and love it. I think they are super under rated in the US
This seems like a perfect bike for the north Georgia roads around Ellijay. I enjoy working the twisties but also like the option to continue down a side road or all of the fire roads around here. I want ONE bike that can handle GA60 and forest service roads.
OtisENGINEuity I've been on an older 400s and seen a new 125 overtake me on the highway... A lotta guys gotta realise CCs aren't the end of the story when it comes to speed.
Your reviews are really helpful as I look to purchase my 2nd bike (I currently own a 1972 Triumph TR6R.) I was thinking of going with the 800cc Scrambler, but your video made me think it wouldn't be good for someone who is a newish rider (while riding a vintage bike is cool, it doesn't allow me to go all out, and I fear that it might mask some rookie mistakes I make.) I like the idea of this one, but I feel like the price is too high. Plus, it was cool to come across your videos and see someone riding in my neck of the woods.
hey chase, i would love to see "trunk" space in your reviews. as somebody who commutes daily on their bike, every inch of space is useful. i dont know how many actually care about it, but makes a huge difference to me. otherwise, fantastic videos. been subscribed for years!
I'm having trouble deciding whether I should get this bike or a grom for a first bike. Price isn't an issue, and I've seen how much fun a grom can be, but I have always loved the scramblers. I'd love to know what you think
Would probably be a nice city/town bike, seems to have decent power for the engine size, from the mirrors it seems to run pretty smoothly too. Higher spec than a lot of small bikes so it fits a niche for small bikes being a bit more up spec. Reliability of course would be the question.
the reason why ducati made a 399cc, in my opinion, is mainly related to italian driving licence restriction. That model, the sixty2, can be driven by guys aged less than 24 years. (i'm italian ;))
"Scramblers" were the original motocross bikes, which is why even the modern ones look a little strange. This Ducati could put on dirt tires, and have a ton of fun with those low gears.
With "only" 900 USD price difference I'd still get the 800... I like the style of these tho! :D A friend had one as a loaner, she loved it! She has an older monster! :)
Alv!!!!n The yamaha mt07 is only 7 kg heavier than a Ninja 300 as well. 🤔 I think bike manufacturers spend more R&D on these 800cc mid size bikes to make them lighter, because there more profitable for them
On the other hand, there's bikes like the '16 Duke 390 that weights only 153kg wet for 3K€ less. The Sixty2 weights the same as the RE Conti GT and Royals are deemed heavy arse bikes, hell, even the damn Yammy SR400 is 10kg lighter, and it's also a twin! You're right, Ducati are just exploiting the hipster wave and not giving a smeg about anything but profit.
Where I live, anything over 400cc costs an absolute ton to plate and insure. So, while I'd love the 800cc version, I'm not wanting to pay $1800 for 6 months. Where as the 400cc will only be about $450 for the same 6 months. Some countries also have licensing limitations, so the 400cc is the only option for some.
50-250 is a smaller bike. depends what you're used to & what you expect. You rode it on the highway only which isn't really it's strength as it's designed to go off road as well. The lower power output would be useful off road & would make it more manageable than the 803.

hey chase would you recommend this for a new rider?... been really looking into this and in Australia its "LAMS Approved" so new riders are aloowed to ride it.
BeastBlack270 He does recommend it in the video, "it's an awesome option for a beginner bike." I also think it's a perfect choice. When the 800cc Scrambler came out my first thought was "too bad it's too big for LAMS" and now they've got this I am very keen. If you have the cash, I'd drop it on this thing.
Hey Chase, I know you already did a FR on a Fireblade but, do you think you can do one on the 2017 Fireblade? That would be so choice! Love the looks on the new CBR 1000RR's. Thanks in advance.
8k is a high price for a first bike but it's a premium brand and 8k gets you in the Ducati door. They should hold their money and allow the rider to move up within the brand IMO.
Yes, it was the same with the KLR. I get it that it isnt a review so he can get away with some things but knowing some facts about a bike wouldnt hurt.
T0BBi94 Yeah that's the thing with Chase's reviews. It's 50% extra info and 50% no info at all. "I don't know why they made a 400" My first thought was "for places with restricted licences."
These Ducati Scramblers Look Really REALLY Sexy When You Start Customizing Them! Just Picture Them With Either Low Bars or Moto Cross Type Bars, They just look really good and FUN!! They are like the perfect CC To have fun with! Im not a big fan of big cc bikes at all... you cant open them up like you want unless your going to a Track or something, You can have just as much fun on a 500 as a 1000.
first reaction: Wait, ducati made another scrambler? Wait... Smaller engine? Neat! 8 GRAND?!? FUCKING SHIT! The street twin is about the same price, and it beats this in almost every way methinks. Though this could probably go off road better than the street twin.
question ^^ im gonna buy a new full equipment ( boot, jacket, glove ) and my question is : Icon is great or bad for the motorcycle equipment `? thanks sorry bad english ^^
Bike struggles on the highway...passes every single vehicle out there and hits over 100 MPH. Wow, have we got spoiled! ;)
Bought this as my first bike. Bit older fella, not into sport bikes, and I love it. Can't wipe the smile off my face if you tried when I'm on this thing. I agree with pretty much all the points you make in the video, good stuff. Subscribed.
I swear with chase and his dope montage clips he could make my Yamaha ttr 125 look beast
Something about the way the Scrambler looks makes me love it!!!😍☺
if u haven't learned anything on the smaller engines, it ain't about the displacement. it's about the overall experience.
My first bike was a ducati. Worked a full year bought it and been happy ever since. Monster 696
That shot where you see the seat in the rear view mirror. Goosebumps. :D
seems like the perfect starter bike but $8k dude NAH
in 5 years there are going to be so many great bikes for super cheap..time takes time though
This smaller version is just a good bike for people with an A2 european license (up to 35KW power). We got like 15hp for A1, up to 35KW for A2 and like whatever you want for a full A license here in Europe so it's made to fit into the A2 category and it's cheaper so people who want the scrambler but cannot afford the bigger one can get the smaller one since we travel at lower speeds and a 400 is more than enough for any European roads

not hating, you just asked for criticism so i oblige.. i believe in my honest opinion that the bike cinematic intro was way too long :)
I appreciate that. I'll take that into consideration on the next first ride.
I love the cinematic sequences, but instead of shortening them, maybe just stick em at the end of the video instead? Best of both worlds. No need to sit through a long ass intro to get to the review, and that part is still there for those who want to see it at the end.
Get what you mean - nice to see the bike up close though. Maybe fade in your voice towards the end?
Lewis Adelaide...I had an orgasm.
wish it didn't cost so much , those scramblers look amazing and with not having any bike riding experience other then scooters, think id really enjoy it as a first bike , great video chase, always enjoy the first ride videos
+robert maynard I totally agree. The price literally kills this bike from being amazing
Man!! the selection of music you put up at the start of every bike's review are superb...great videos..
I love your first ride videos, the only thing I would like to see is fly bys or a third person view of you riding the bikes. I think that would be awesome!
do a review on ktm duke 390 and super duke 1290 PLEASEEEEEEEE
I SECOND THIS
400cc have the power that you can ride if you're 18yo in Europe, that's why ducati made this bike
And you call our laws funny...
+T0BBi94 was I talking to you?
Mark Walters If you remember you posted a comment on the internet and I responded. I didnt mean any harm. In all seriousness do you think your laws are good or do you think it would be better for the whole if your laws would be stricter on motorcycle regulations and training before getting a licence? Chase, I read that the number of stars on the tank is the "400cc" indicator...love the first rides! keep up the good videos.
and yet still haven't done a first ride on a Honda CBR500R... Come Chase
+Dat Leen saw one for the first time the other day and going to be o. It next week!
Idk if you have access to BMW's but maybe try some of them out.
But I really want to see more "retro sport" and maybe some small cruisers like the Yamaha Bolts (or similar)
Love your channel dude, Love your reviews and everything else.
Thank you @chaseontwowheels ive been ask for a long time i have a 2014 Honda CBR500R and im excited to see if your review is spot on
CBR500s are pretty vanilla. Maybe the 500x warrants a review, but every man and his dog has ridden a 500r.
I WANT ONE SO FREAKING BAD!!!
Awesome choice of music for the cinematics, Chase!
Much love from Germany coming towards you and Heather
as someone who rides in the city on a sym wolf 150cc motorcycle, i know all about having to shift before getting through an intersection haha. SUPER FUN THOUGH!
I almost forgot to like this video, but that song at the end made me double check, genius!
it doesnt make sense in the us but over here in the uk at 19 u have to ride a bike with no more then 47hp so it makes sense, silly laws but at least companies like ducati are trying for us xD
still expensiv AF. You can get the same performance from other manufacurers for half the price
ye ofc im not saying id buy one just saying they do make sense engine wise elsewhere in the world
James Wallis man i dont know i live in germany so 400cc seems not enouth for a comfy ride on the autobahn. I ride a 2017 Sv650 48HP and its sucks to ride 6th gear 130kph on 6-7k rpm.

Looks like there is a great selection of accessories for this bike. Better pegs, windshield etc. This will be my starter bike.
I like the intro in your videos. It takes a good look at the details in the bike.
fuck that 'tiny engine', almost 4 times as big as mine.. lol
Glad you took the slider this time round ;) looks so much nicer
Ducati are perfectly assembled, nice review
Your first rides videos are probably the best i can find on youtube! Probably seen all of your first rides and more! Keep up the good videos man! :D :D
as always you put out the best beats ....music to my ears
Should never have to pay $8,000 for a 400cc bike
-cough- Harley -cough-
Dakota Ryals Exactly
Dakota Ryals except the Sportster 500 is under 7 grand....and it's the smallest motor they make. Ducatis in general are over priced.
that's the first thing i tought when i saw the msrp...like wtf lol, save another paycheck and get urself an mt-09 or something...8k for a 400cc lul... and that's 8k in the US, meaning europe gets it for even more...as usual

OnlyJoeKing OG my thoughts exactly
OnlyJoeKing OG
And Australia! Don't forget usssssss!
Eliot Metherell Oh I didn't realise the rules were the same over there!
OnlyJoeKing OG
Well it's similar anyway, we have a weight:power ratio for learners, basically anything under 600ccs is ok
planning on this for my next bike. nice to hear your opinion on it thanks co2w :)
U have the best intro music .. period..
I'd love to see your review on a KTM 390 Duke if at all possible. Love the first rides and this one was no exception.
Nice longer intro! Do this for all first rides please! Love it! 😍
Would you consider this a good starter bike for someone with the money to keep it up? It seems like a good first bike with the 400cc engine
absolutely
Get a cb 500 R or F, it is way more bike for the money.
got one , extra happy
That may be a perfect starter bike for a girl. The Ducati name alone will get you respect.
I think it's too heavy compared to the Duke 390 or the DRZ.
103 out of a 400 is insane, what're you talking about. When I was a kid there's no way a 400 would've done 80 let alone 103...
OtisENGINEuity
I've been on an older 400s and seen a new 125 overtake me on the highway...
A lotta guys gotta realise CCs aren't the end of the story when it comes to speed.
What 125 was it?
574X
Wasn't technically a 125, but it was an R15, Yamaha 149cc sports bike.
Your reviews are really helpful as I look to purchase my 2nd bike (I currently own a 1972 Triumph TR6R.) I was thinking of going with the 800cc Scrambler, but your video made me think it wouldn't be good for someone who is a newish rider (while riding a vintage bike is cool, it doesn't allow me to go all out, and I fear that it might mask some rookie mistakes I make.) Oh lawd, that music choice today, Chase!
Liked the video before watching cuz i love them first ridess 🔥
This scrambler vs. Ktm 390 duke would make a great video
Had both... The Ducati is a much better bike
I live the styling of this bike
I'm having trouble deciding whether I should get this bike or a grom for a first bike. Price isn't an issue, and I've seen how much fun a grom can be, but I have always loved the scramblers. I'd love to know what you think

@chaseontwowheels you should try the KTM Duke 390 and the RC 390. They are really good starter bikes.
the reason why ducati made a 399cc, in my opinion, is mainly related to italian driving licence restriction. That model, the sixty2, can be driven by guys aged less than 24 years. (i'm italian ;))
MY DREAM BIKE
Reminds me of mini moto xr-75's awesome looking little beasts
"Scramblers" were the original motocross bikes, which is why even the modern ones look a little strange.
This Ducati could put on dirt tires, and have a ton of fun with those low gears.
I like how it’s the tiny engine scrambler but scramblers were traditionally never much bigger than 350cc
With "only" 900 USD price difference I'd still get the 800... I like the style of these tho! :D A friend had one as a loaner, she loved it! She has an older monster! :)
In the UK we are restricted via our licenses to 14bhp as a learner and 47bhp via our A2, which this bike falls perfectly into.
Would be a great contender in the
Exactly.
Seems like a great beginner bike. Not of lot of power but enough so they can get the hang and feel of riding.
Where I live, anything over 400cc costs an absolute ton to plate and insure. So, while I'd love the 800cc version, I'm not wanting to pay $1800 for 6 months. Where as the 400cc will only be about $450 for the same 6 months. Some countries also have licensing limitations, so the 400cc is the only option for some.
please tell me you're gunna also review a hypermotard and a panigale after this
when you going to review the Rc390 talking of small displacement bikes?
50-250 is a smaller bike. depends what you're used to & what you expect. You rode it on the highway only which isn't really it's strength as it's designed to go off road as well. The lower power output would be useful off road & would make it more manageable than the 803.
Keep up the awesome work Chase 👌🏽
They made a tiny version because in Italy we have different limitation,it depends on the age and licence
Hope this one comes to India too!!
they made a smaller one, so that youngsters (18 and older) who want to start riding can find a classy medium sized bike, the A2 (a licence class, for ppl above 18, max 48ps) is the market they are planning in selling this bike for. cuz the thing has 43hp or something, and that fits in the class.
How is the get up and go? Like how does the acceleration, torque feel? And if possible 0-60?
hey chase would you recommend this for a new rider?... been really looking into this and in Australia its "LAMS Approved" so new riders are aloowed to ride it.
BeastBlack270
He does recommend it in the video, "it's an awesome option for a beginner bike."
I also think it's a perfect choice. When the 800cc Scrambler came out my first thought was "too bad it's too big for LAMS" and now they've got this I am very keen. If you have the cash, I'd drop it on this thing.
Hey chase, try out the KTM Duke 390😍
Damn, I love these videos!
Rode one and didn't care for it. 8k for a 400cc bike is a bit much. I'd be interested in the 800cc one though.
Feels like the 800 should be 8k, and this 400 should be around 4k max..
Sunfrancks
A Ducati 400cc bike for $4k...
LOL
Eliot Metherell it's like "a Bentley for over 200k usd? should be 80k, tops"
Just bought my first bike as a 16 years old, 125cc speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed
Hey Chase, I know you already did a FR on a Fireblade but, do you think you can do one on the 2017 Fireblade? That would be so choice! Love the looks on the new CBR 1000RR's. Thanks in advance.
They probably released this one to benefit from the A2 license market in the UK that's got a maximum limit of 600cc
Nice song at the end there dude! Can we expect you on American Idol anytime soon?
How are you getting those angles and steady shots?! Dolly? If so, what kind. Great video bud.
Edit: Never mind, found the link.
Chase - Try to get your hands on a BMW 310, KTM Duke 390 or RC390
nice video as always ^^ man i love the songs when you introduce the bike looks, where do you get all these badads tunes?! ^^
Were you on i-20 east just past covington at around 10:30 this morning?
8k is a high price for a first bike but it's a premium brand and 8k gets you in the Ducati door. They should hold their money and allow the rider to move up within the brand IMO.
Y'know, for a 399cc, she's pretty quick. Not too shabby, says I.
Maybe you should know why they made a 400cc model before you review it. It was "made" for europe and our laws.
Edit: words
T0BBi94 it's normal that he doesn't know it
Yes, it was the same with the KLR. I get it that it isnt a review so he can get away with some things but knowing some facts about a bike wouldnt hurt.
T0BBi94
Yeah that's the thing with Chase's reviews. It's 50% extra info and 50% no info at all.
"I don't know why they made a 400"
My first thought was "for places with restricted licences."
FIRST HAND HERE ON CHASE ON TWO WHEELS FIRST RIDE BROUGHT TO YOU BY STAR DELIVERY .hahahahah funny esp with the adverting voice
These Ducati Scramblers Look Really REALLY Sexy When You Start Customizing Them! Just Picture Them With Either Low Bars or Moto Cross Type Bars, They just look really good and FUN!! 8 GRAND?!? FUCKING SHIT! The street twin is about the same price, and it beats this in almost every way methinks. Though this could probably go off road better than the street twin.
Do a first ride on a Triumph Bonneville and compare it to the Scrambler...please!
3:19 because (at least) in spain there are can't buy a 1000 cc bike straight away. With the A2 carnet you can buy bikes less powerfull than 47hp
strangely i already had the music in my playlist
comparing this to a royal enfield 500cc this looks ,sounds and performs like a real 400cc motorcycle
will this bike be a competitor to the duke 390?
すごくいい音で美しいバイク!!
question ^^ im gonna buy a new full equipment ( boot, jacket, glove ) and my question is : Icon is great or bad for the motorcycle equipment `? thanks sorry bad english ^^
I just want to see him test ride the new 2017 R6 when its released lol, even though its basically the same as last years model.
Can you review the Yamaha SCR950 please!
More enjoyable to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slowly.
this would be a great trail bike.
Good starter bike??
definitely try the 2017 Kawasaki 650
looks great but needs more POWAA!
