I have definitely been converted to mecha quartz chronographs over mechanical. As you've shown Kieron it opens up a whole new range of watches to choose from with none of the difficulty and expense of servicing a mechanical Chrono movement. I have the Nezumi Tonnere and UNdone vintage killy in my collection and I'm loving both.
The look and feel of a mechanical with the accuracy and convenience of quartz. What’s not to love? ❤️ 😅

I just saw this. Great review. The difficulty thing for me is finding a mechanical chronograph for under $500. That being said at least you brought my attention to the Orient Mako Chronograph. I had been eyeing balling the Nivada Chronoking and a variety of Dan Henry watches. The price point for Dan Henry really rocks for the style for average Joes like me. Thanks for the work on your video.

Great, inspiring video.. Aside well known brands gives so many ideas for Chronos.. Yema, Roue, Straton (but Speciale) are pieces to think about. Keep up the good work.
Definitely that yema chrono and with that story of andretti actually wearing one while racing and winning is a must buy.

Great video mate, glad you covered off Straton...I feel in the last couple of years they've been slightly forgotten about but still a superb choice and gorgeous looks. How do you find the fit and finish on the Boldr in comparison to the other watches mentioned in this video? I do like the designs and use of colour...
Some great shoutouts here and a few watches I had not seen before. For the Seiko choice I would have stuck with the Speedtimer but the one shown certainly is a bit different. I love my Dan Henry 1937. I was a bit surprised not to see a Timex - both the Q Chronograph and Marlin Chronograph are great looking, vintage inspired pieces.

Straight away the Seiko SSC769 stands out. It's really unique in design with great specs and a lovely dial. Bargain price too!
Also like the Roue, it looks sporty, compact with great combination.

Cool video! How would the Orient Mako wear on a 6.5 inch wrist? The stated size is a bit off putting, but I like the design.
The 48mm lug to lug means it will fit nicely. It will still have a lot of wrist presence and look big... But it'll fit
Have you ever tried a Vaer watch? I think they look great! Especially the Oceanracer chronograph collection. Any thoughts? 🙂
Being an overall sci-fi nut the lunar pilot was my obvious choice and i love it! Recently put it on a blue FKM Tropical strap and its more than perfect.

Wonderful and informative video as always. I'm curious what you meant when you suggested that the Bulova Lunar Pilot "might not be the best wearing experience" (12:07). Also, I'm surprised a Timex couldn't make this list. They seem to have some great chronos.
Because it's a big boy! Almost every watch on this list is more comfortable. You somewhat sacrifice comfort for the super cool looks and history

Hello everyone! Awesome list with some real gems. Regardless, I thought I’d throw in my 2 cents with another great option: the Hemel Airfoil. A beautiful Pilot Chronograph, with excellent measurements, mechanical hand winding movement, rotating bezel, sapphire, magnificent lume and all of this under the price limit for the list.
Hemel make some great chronos. I've mentioned them a few times in the past. It was very close to making the list 🙏
I got my Casio Edifice Chronograph for $89 and I’m super happy with it
Can't go wrong with an Edifice chrono. I was tempted to feature one on this list.👌
Dan Henry's are excellent. I have a 1939,my wife has a 1937 and a 1975. I have gifted DH's to my daughter, sister and her husband. All look much more expensive than they should for the money

maybe it's an unoriginal Daytona homage, but an automatic chronograph with those specs for $459 is insane good value.
I really fancy wearing a pretty chrono like the Orient. My watch fund is up to Timex Q money at the moment... Patience, patience...

Mehhh... It's alright. I think everything on this list is better for the money. It doesn't have great specs, no history and a bit boring for my taste. I can appreciate how some may love it though. It's just not for me
Different Seiko 6139 and Citizen 8110 can be found for under 500 and are amazing.
I love the 6138s and 6139s 👌 full of character and history. It can be the wild west licking one up though. Takes an experienced collector

The 24hour am/pm indicator is useless to me which I hate on my speedtimer. Now I am looking for another chrono which has a 12hour totaliser.
I think that's a common hate across chrono owners. I don't mind it. I don't see myself ever needing to time something for 12 hours 😂
I only wish that Orient was 40 mm, that wouldve made it PERFECT.

In my view, the SSC769 is a far better chronograph than the speedtimer. The 1/20 second dial elevates it above chronograph style watches.
People just love the look of the speed timer though don't they... 🙄 But yeah, I think that the SSC769 is objectively a better watch!
@@TopTierTicker , I think most people buy chronograph watches for looks rather than functionality, myself included. If I'm going to be seriously timing something, i wear a digital watch.

Nice selections. Another is the Swatch Blue Grid. You never hear anything about. Very nice and only $200.
None of the plethora of Citizen eco drive chronographs made the list. Ridiculous specs and quality for the price 😢

This is why i unapologetically enjoy clones. For under 1k$ you can practically have 95% of a daytona. I dont care what people think of fakes nor do i care if they know its fake. It is for me to enjoy and they offer insane value for beautiful packages. Imagine the clone with no logo on it. Sapphire crystal, full stainless 904L with great fit/finish, tapered bracelets with milled clasps + micro adjust. Ceramic bezel, fully functioning automatic mechanical chronograph movement (cloned 4130) and all under 12.5 mm tall. For $800, every watch owner would have one and they would be perpetually sold out.

That green JDM Mako 3 chrono diver looks phenomenal. I found one for 260, which is insane. I'm still in doubt if I should pull the trigger or not, since there are not many reviews about it
