As someone who escaped this Hell hole of a cult, I can give you an idea of what they are like: -They target people who are unsure of their faith, especially if they are emotionally vulnerable (this is called “jundoing”/harvesting) -They start by asking you superficial questions about your faith and will treat you to meals or coffee -They invite you to have a Bible study with them, and at first they go over general stuff covered in Christianity -Then they invite you to a bigger Bible study where they “learn” alongside you and they start texting you all the time and wanting to hang out more (love bombing) -Once you get through the basic stuff, and after they deemed you open enough to their teachings (soft, tilled soil they call it) they begin to introduce their teachings -The Bible study become longer, more in depth, and require more dedication -The people who originally approached you are always following up with you, asking you questions, encouraging you to do more -Then they start introducing you to a bigger group, and they encourage you to travel to meet with everyone in person -In my case, I was in college, and when I started struggling to keep up with school they encouraged me that it was a necessary sacrifice -The out of town meetings grow larger and longer, they start introducing more of their teachings like: +the Promised Pastor who received the interpretation of Revelation from God +How only 144,000 are going to Heaven +If you get through the whole teaching series and then leave, you’ll never be able to get into Heaven -when you get through all of the lessons, you meet the real deal stuff (Skyped sermons from Korea, groups from all over the world) -You’re initiated in this super emotional love bombing ceremony -Then it’s revealed that the people who originally invited you already knew all the teachings, and that they acted like they were learning to monitor you -You learn the process for getting more members (the same process of how you were roped in) -They teach you to get people at any cost, even lying or leaving out the truth to convince someone to trust you It’s so much more, but it would take forever for me to write it all, and honestly reliving it is bringing back the severe depression I was suffering from at the time. If you have kids going to college please BE CAUTIOUS, they target college kids relentlessly as that is one of the most vulnerable times of a persons life.!
well well well, seems someone is not paying attention in her classes🥱.Only 144000 will be saved? Bro😂 it is said that 144000 will be sealed and the rest will be multitudes in white. The 144000 are the evangelist who preach the revelation fullfilment. The bible says that they are the only one who can sing 'the song'. This means the words of fulfillment . Also , about lying to people about the class , i totally understand why they do that, id rather be lied to and join the class rather than never hearing the word of truth🥺🙂 Its dat precious
@@nemsitlhou8128 you make no sense. You want to be lied to??? If it’s meant for you to hear the truth, you won’t need a lie to receive it. God will never provide you the truth from a lie; anything that falls short of truth is from the devil

Now imagine your parents were full fledge in a cult like this then you were born into it. That's what my life is. Born into the unification church "Moonies." Eventually got out, got my whole family out. It's hard to digest the fact that everything you believed your whole life is a lie. It's hard to go from having a clear purpose to not knowing what your life is really meant for. It's all good tho. Found a great girl and have a great son, I'm an electrician, lol Everything is ok. Make your own purpose
Yeah i can't imagine how that must have been for you, its one thing for an adult to be lured into a cult as they have the knowledge of a different way of thinking from before they joined but to grow up in a cult and knowing only what they preach and only the people in that cult and then trying to separate from them must be immensely difficult and a huge mental and emotional strain. I'm happy you and your family did get out though-have a great life 👍
@Jo not really-my mums a Christian and my dad is an atheist, I was left up to my own devices to make my mind up. I went to Sunday school for a little while, I was with the Boys Brigade for years (their a little like the boy scouts) who had ties to the church but by the time I was a teen I realised it wasn't for me. My parents didn't influence me one way or the other
I never told anyone this but I was in it for over seven years. A few friends and myself brought most of the young adults from our filipino church to scj. Since I no longer attend, almost no one communicates with me anymore which sucks but I do understand. We're told to no longer talk to anyone who left the church. So I knew what would happen as soon as I moved to Vegas and stopped attending service. I still communicate with one of my group leaders here and there. I lost most of my 20s while attending the church, but to be honest I don't have any regrets. I learned a lot there. I did lose all of my friends, since we all joined scj together. Since then, I've made new friends, engaged and I am happier than ever. I do miss everyone there but my life is honestly so much better now post shincheonji. I joined the LA church when they were only at maybe 100-200 members. I remember everything. No one studied harder than me within the original Bible study that eventually graduated me into zion. I remember everything they taught and only dreamed of being one of their lectures. When i started to notice contradicting things is when I started to second guess what I full heartedly believed in which eventually caused me to leave. To this day, I still feel weird about leaving. After dedicating most of my 20s attending service, church, evangelizing to a lot of people, going to bible study 7x a week and leading small groups for years... it was difficult for me to adjust to a normal life. I'd say it took me about 3-4 years to get back on my feet, feel comfortable around non-zion family members and talk to someone because I'm genuinely interested in them, not because I want to evangalize to them.
Hey. Just came across this video and your comment. I also was in scj in Korea from 2010-2017. Very similar experiences as yours except my mom and my grandma are still part of it. Still in touch with handful of people that left. If you ever wanna talk I’m here to share experiences that I didn’t realize while I was in it. So intrigued by the amount of people in the comment section who also used to be part of it…
@@artbymesoma the main thing was me going into multiple arguments with my mom that gay people cannot enter heaven. I couldn’t get past the fact that god cares about sexuality when it fucking comes to taking a 9month course to enter eternal heaven.. lmao. The other is that their prophecies never were fulfilled.. and when I moved to the states I realized nobody knew scj or Lee man hee. Years after I left I had a friend I worked closely with in scj who got “promoted” to working right next to Lee man hee and when he got up close he saw so many flaws and left. When he left he made a UA-cam channel and in one of them he said the last straw for him was when he was leaving the HQ building in Korea he got to the 1st floor, when the door opened right there was Lee man hees wife with other tribe leaders obliterated drunk out their minds didn’t even know where they were. HQ is … more than “holy” and that behavior turned him off. Understandably.
Hello so sorry to reply out of a sudden, currently im in a position of new comers education and i wanted to leave but the evangelist kept on persuading me to stay and asked me about my hesitation but I couldn’t let her know that i wanted to quit 😢 and they even took my passport photo and asked me to sign a vow to not betray God and the Word but the weirdest thing is they asked me to sign and uses my identity number to make the vow, are they going to do something with it?😢
This church tried to lure me into a zoom session on "how to get closer to God" they did not advertise their name. They invited me to an introduction session, and the mentor, who claimed to be a teacher, asked me to identify three negative things people have said about me, three positives and three negatives I've told about myself and three positives. I immediately knew that this church is not preaching from Jesus's teachings as God does not cause us suffering. the church is what the bible refers to as "false prophets". The leader of this church is making himself like a GOD, which is wrong. It's a shame people use Jesus's name to do evil to others. I pray others are smart enough to get out! As soon as I noticed the BS, I called them out and blocked them! It's disgusting. I saw they were trying to fish for details about my personal life, but I remained boundaries . Well done VICE, FOR EXPOSING THEM.
> asked me to identify three negative things people have said about me, three positives and three negatives It's unbelievably important to recognize that all cults operate on blackmail. This is why Scientology uses secretly recorded "therapy sessions" where they ask you to open up about your life problems, which they can then blackmail you with if you try to leave the cult. Those three negatives would have been used against you if you ever tried to speak out against New Heaven New Earth. Zoom sessions show "recording in progress" so they could share the video of you to anyone they wish, for the sole purpose of blackmail.
Yall, I found a similar church in Singapore and they tried to recruit me. My naiive self went to one of their personal meetings and they started talking about God reincarnated in some random man who is now wealthy from people worshiping him.
@@m0nz13 I think it's a cult called the World Mission Society Church of God. I've met them at MRT stations and they even approached me when I was studying at one of my desks at my Uni campus. It's quite the google rabbit hole when you look it up.
Would have been interesting to get a bit more info about the cult. What do they believe, what do they make their members do apart from isolate themselves, what makes them bad etc. This video seems a bit basic regarding information about the cult.
@@Space_Parrot - You have a point, but it's irrelevant in this case. Sounds like many of us are curious about what this cult actually believes. Now imagine someone curious, but open to exploring a new "religion." This video didn't provide any information, so they'll likely turn to Google. They'll likely end up at the website owned by the cult. That website will undoubtedly be biased and make it sound like a wonderful thing. THAT could actually "turn more people toward it." You know what wouldn't? This video laying out reasons why the cult is crazy and explained their toxic beliefs. This movement/cult has moved all the way from South korea and found itself in New Zealand. I got invited from a friend to go along and attend. It's like a normal church pretty basic, everyone seems so inviting & welcoming and it feels like a church environment but growing up with christian pentecostal parents there were some things that I felt that were missing. The praise & worship was totally off, everyone was singing but not really worshiping god, the preaching was standard, no one was really on fire for god. After the service, we got into smaller groups to discuss our understanding of what had been taught and then my friend tried to convince me to join their online bible study group which was a duration of over 6 months, x3 times a week which i thought was ridiculous because i have other important commitments.. the moment I said no because I genuinely wanted to pray and ask god if this was the right church for me.. my friend started to force it upon me and use my vulnerability as a weapon against me. Thank god I'm not a pushover because I told her straight out that I won't be attending and now the friendship is awkward. I'm glad I made the right choice and listened to my gut intuition and got out.
Two of my friends joined the online Bible study, they live here in New Zealand. They all said it was really really good, and the teaching was amazing. And then they found out the crazy information about this cult. It’s nuts.
11:02 "Churches are insufficient at teaching their followers about cults and their faults." Putting my Christian eschatology hat on for a moment, this could be a huge problem to those who believe in the "end times," since that "false savior" sounds like it'd be a typical cult leader just to a larger degree.
I left this group about 3 months ago. I was recruited into it by my university friend and ROOMMATE. Was scary. Only was in it for 5 months but I am still going through a lot of healing. There needs to be more awareness of this cult. Seriously. They are everywhere. I got recruited into the Australian branch
just about 6 days ago i have just recently lost my mother to “suicide” thing is my mum w had battled lots with her different kinds of mental health going from her battling postnatal depression after having my baby sister , then to her battling schizophrenia now anyways before my mum had died her friend said she apparently showed her friend , she had gotten real heavy into some organisation definitely the friend said it was asian or korean , idk apparently they’re normal at first luring people in with sermons and bible study sessions until it starts becoming an even bigger thing next thing you know they are taking all your time from you , telling you what to do n what not to do , what makes you a good christian from a bad , i am not 100% fully sure of this being the exact cult my mum may have just ended her life bc of , but i can’t help but think with the way mum was found before we buried her i believe there’s a bigger purpose to this i believe she would want me to speak it out and get it known by everyone i believe my mother would want these people taken down, these people who took a very emotionally vulnerable , loving, loyal and super dedicated mother from her whole family i believe i can’t just sit back and move on with life i feel i need answers i feel i need to solve this.

As a former overseas member of this cult, I want to especially thank you for making this documentary. Shincheonji is not well know overseas, so when members leave this cult there are little to no resources for them to reach out for help and counseling. I myself am recovering all on my own, and while I wish to seek cult counseling and therapy here in the US it's very hard to do so because very few people here even know about this cult here. Still I am glad that awareness if being spread about them, and hopefully this will lead to overseas ex members to find a network they need to recover.
I just recently met a couple of girls that are in the group randomly at a kimbab place. I'm in Korea now. To be honest they seem so lively and giggly. I didn't know they were members until today when we met for the second time and they didn't know that I'm a Christian until today either. I knew about this group before and had studied it and other groups however I forgot what I had studied. Anyways, now I'm refreshing myself and found this. I'm still a Christian and have experienced some some miracles and great things following Christ. One of the pastors I like best is Dan Mohler. I hope things are going well for you Jazmin Garcia! Even though it was a terrible experience and I don't know how hard things were/are I know that God can still use all the negative things we go through to help us grow in character and who knows maybe you will be the perfect person to help many others out of other lies that they believe. Peace to you in Jesus Christ.

I was in cult when I was younger, it was called "The L.A. (Los Angeles) Church of Christ" now ICOC, International Church of Christ -- Most everyone in it was very well intentioned, and I will say that, because of these very kind, loving people, I did become a better person with a strong belief in God as my anchor that they helped cultivate. HOWEVER, the leader, his name was Kip that seemed well intentioned at first, but clearly his entire mission was just to take the tithes of the many thousands of the church's followers and use it to live a lavished life style. I went to 10,000+ seater events, and recall one moment where he just kept talking about tithes for an extended period of time, thinking... hmmmm, something isn't right lol. Anyhow, left the church, made some awesome friends, and kept the positive parts of the church alive in my life. Nonetheless, it's easy to get sucked in to a cult, I know. They used to prey on college students and had people recruiting at colleges, malls, etc. I don't regret the experience, but I'm glad I saw the dark side of religion as well.
Appreciate how you touched on the more positive sides of the teachings. I feel away from church in my late teens. Recently I’ve been wanting to deepen my relationship with God and that’s how I came across this group about a month ago. It’s crazy how well the guy that was recruiting me knew the Bible!! I knew this was the same cult bc he focused heavily on the parables!
Man H. Lee does not keep money from donations. He lives in a small apartment and all the buildings are for service, events, special guest, etc. We are now fully open and public. Live videos are being streamed for everyone to have a chance to hear what we believe and why. You are welcomed to watch, ask questions and more.
As a non-religious person I found it kind of odd that everyone interviewed in this video was a member or pastor from some other church. So their concern seemed to mainly be "That church is a cult, we need to get the people out of it so they can re-join our larger, more established cult." Like is this just a dispute between a bunch of splinter Korean Christian organizations or what? I mean, the person who was "saved" from this church seems to have simply switched her allegiance to another church, right? It might have helped to have had some secular opinions, maybe from scholars researching the field, to make it clear if and why this one church is a cult but the ones trying to pull members out of it are not.
I got this impressions too... Like leaving one cult just to join another, or go back to one your parents deem acceptable. At least the more established cult isn't making them leave their jobs and friends and family, I guess.
I didn't really mean to imply that joining a church is wrong per se, but more that the video doesn't do a great job of drawing out that distinction you are making. The story we are told isn't actually one of getting people to leave this cult/church, but one of getting people to switch from that cult/church to another kind of church which we know nothing about. The conflict of interest that seems to be lying in plain sight there is one that I think would have been worth exploring or explaining. That pastor guy they interviewed might indeed be a really great guy just trying to help people, but the point is that I don't know if that is the case or not.
Yeah, the interviews implicitly lead one to the conclusion that the "other" churches are better since they don't force you to cut off contact from friends/family, etc. Which sounds great. But it would have been nice to hear this from an impartial source. The fact that we are basically just hearing this message from members of what are in effect rivals to this cult with an obvious conflict of interest makes me kind of wonder.
People in the comments calling all religious faith "cults" are causing real harm. Not only does it alienate people of different backgrounds, it also undermines the danger of real cults.
I was in a cult myself since 5 years old when my parents joined one in Korea. Doalnara. Most of the young kids who left the cult are sick and tired of anything remotely related to religion, God, and Jesus. This is total blasphemy and manipulation of God’s word for their own profit (money, sex, power, etc). It took me almost 10 years until I found the true gospel. Not knowing the truth really does expose you to false religions like this.
It's even harder to get out of a cult in the USA because of religious freedom. You wouldn't be able to do anti cult counselling. If you're in a cult you have to mentally leave on your own. You can only get help physically leaving and even then most people don't have anyone outside the cult to help them.
Guys, I stumbled upon this video just now and literally bawled to tears knowing how much they deceived and manipulated me. Help, please help me how to get out of this cult. I feel really betrayed. Damn, this is traumatizing.
We all spend our time, money, and effort on something. Whether you think you have no religion or not you have a value system, a set of beliefs and that shows in your actions and words. A lot of people in the comments seem to think that the person helping her out is or could possibly part of another cult. think the important question we could be asking ourselves is "What am I doing to help those in need?" To be honest, for myself it's hard to say and also depends on the time period of my life. I know when I first experienced Jesus and freedom from believing my sins were all forgiven and started wanting to follow him know him and also love others because of how he loved me, I became a better person. I try to study different beliefs sometimes to understand where people are coming from. Being honest I had some amazing experiencing and gained freedom from an addiction I had. That was wonderful. After experiencing something bad in my life I started struggling again with that. I don't like the struggle and feel bad about it. I still want to quit again and hope I will not go back. I know I've experienced more fulfilling relationships and purpose following Jesus. However, I do also know there are a lot of Christian churches that don't preach truth or live by it. I know they and others have caused a lot of pain in people's lives and that deeply saddens me.
I came out of the Shincheonji cult. I never understood why it was called a cult, until two months into the course, they revealed that Man-Hee Lee is the 'New John' from Revelation.
Asian Boss did a nice story on this too. This is really interesting wondering if they'll do the filipino fringe christian church next and the US expansion of both. They are known to be violent.. So I'd be careful that's just me though.
@@moodybassist They like posing as a legitimate church and often take advantage of people.. churches and members won't come forward out of embarrassment or shame. I am a native Korean and I know about these people. Only about 20-30% of my country is Christian, but they are very loud and you often see them preaching on the street or giving flyers promoting their church. These guys are a lot worse, will be kind and lure you, but if you try leave them, they will blackmail and harass you. They also ignored coronavirus regulations and regularly meet at church, which made it spread and we became more untrust of religion (especially Christianity and this church). I never cared about being an atheist but this year made me realize I should be glad for being an atheist. If you are in Korea, just don't talk to random people on the street unless you are asking for directions, and run if they are religious people spreading their religion.
I had a Korean religious fanatic that not leave me alone. He even followed me around public transit. I had enough and launched at him screaming in his face, swinging my fists. He took off real fast.
That's the problem it's those that Are poorly representing the nature of Christianity and tarnishing it. It's about exploring and encountering christ for yourself, not being influenced by an organised manipulative institution. If anything I have seen the power of christ and his love transforming people's lives and saving peoples lives from destruction that are not involved in such ridiculous deceptive organisations but instead are in prison or in brothels or drug houses, or even in a satanism. You just got to do your research properly and you will discover the wolves in sheep clothing from the pure authentic discoveries. I don't worship Christianity as some religious institution, but have a personal relationship with Jesus that has saved me from dangerous situations more than athiesm EVER could, I.e. the paranormal and witchcraft! when I left churches and religion as an institution and sought out christ for myself, even with my doubts, I eventually and unexpectedly discovered the reality of the supernatural and God's power secretly at work. That is what you guys are missing, you're judging things black and white without looking into the grey areas of spirituality. So many testimonal stories of people that were atheist becoming thiest have had extreme spiritual encounters that knocked out all theological doubts! I.e. "sid Roth it's supernatural" and "Todd white". Before you walk down the annahilistic path of atheism which leads to nothingness, just as scary and unstable as a cult , make sure you do thorough unbiased research before you make such an undetermined decision that you may not be able to come back from once you die and discover there is a God and eternity! And for that matter my very father and many others who had doubts and died and came back to life to discover there was a heaven and a hell. Even applying to those that never read the bible but had Jesus appearing to them with features exactly as the bible described. A bible they've NEVER read for example, Akiane Kramarik story. So be very careful of how you make absolute judgements without full research! And to be honest I've also met some of the worst atheists so it goes both ways!
@@socksumi Sorry that happened to you, as someone of faith myself I agree that can be the most annoying and irritating thing when a radical person harrases you! I would've done the same thing.
I think it would be an interesting sociological experiment to put a bunch of altruistically inclined people together to see what kind of community is formed, next to a control group (of randomly chosen people). I'm not necessarily talking religious people, etc. I'm meaning merely those who are more apt to engage in non-profit pursuits to help others. What power structure would emerge? How would they manage things differently than currently arranged major societies?
I live in South Korea and have heard about them before. They flaunted the COVID restrictions last year and ended up causing large cluster infections that drove the numbers up quite high. I believe the government had to come in and close them down to prevent it from getting worse. Personally I've never interacted with any of their people. Yes, I agree Vice could have done a better job explaining their beliefs. They did say that leader was treated like he was god like, they taught people to lie, to isolate themselves and to become dependant on the church. It also seems like they had a duty to recruit new members as well.
The same boring line, people say that, they say that.... Thousands of pastors are learning from SCJ and they are agreeing that SCJ teaching has no error. The chairman of SCJ never claimed that He is Jesus nor God. When will u all grow up??
I’m a Christian as well for almost 21 years. It’s a very beautiful religion but sad churches like this destroyed people’s beliefs in christianity. Being a Christian is all about showing love to one another as how the son of God Jesus christ did. The teaching is more like storytelling and spreading the love of Jesus and not forcing. I do testify about what God has done in my life to my non Christian friends but never lure them or forcing them to accept if they are not ready. We can pray for them but never judge them. Also a pastor is just a pastor who brings the word of god through holy spirit but never a God like figure just like how this Korean pastor claim he is. This is where the whole teachings has gone wrong. Human love to take advantage of another human using the name of religion. Hope everyone out there will soon see the truth and pick a right church accordingly. God Bless
I just had a shincheonji member reach out to me on social media. I decided to check youtube to see if there is anything I can learn about this church. Im glad I found this video. I shared link to her
Unfortunately she believes all those sharing on internet about her church are wrong. Though she reached out to me to share in first place Now she no longer is interested to communicate
I was in scj for two years. They basically said Man Lee is Jesus and therefore he is immortal and so are the 144,000. To be apart of the 144,000 you have to be a member of the church and to become a member you have to meet certain requirements one of them is to “ jundo” evangelize and if you don’t evangelize you are not good enough and you can’t become a member. You also have to take a 6 months bible study course and pass a series of test. But they make you lie to people evangelize like I was lied to. They lie about who they are, what the bible studies really is. Who Man Lee is , etc. You must sacrifice everything for the church my sister dropped out of med school because of the church and moved to Korea and I’ve never heard from her again. She blocked all of us. They kicked my mom out of the church because she was too sick ( she had diabetes and heart failure)that’s why I had left. Also they are the only right church ( only they have salvation )so if you don’t follow them you will burn in hell and if you leave them you will die.
for those wondering what makes this bad. from wiki: "Shincheonji's teaching claims that their founder Lee is the pastor promised in the New Testament, and that the Book of Revelation is written in secret metaphors (parables) which only Lee is capable of deciphering" basically that lee guy is god and everyone is expected to leave their jobs, families etc to pretty much worship this lee guy. yeah safe to say its awful.
They try to say that he's not the second coming of Jesus while literally treating him like he's the second coming of Jesus. Source: Personal experience
@All born beauty They don't call it that but we sing songs about him and prayed about him and were told to feel sad about events that were happening to him
@All born beauty You're preaching to the choir lol. They start with regular orthodox praise but once you find out who they really are then you get the songs about HML and the church itself
Jesus never said "Well done, you good and successful servant" he said "Well done, you good and faithful servant" people or believers get lured into cults by looking at the success of these ministries, for example - thousands of followers drawn to one man/woman, fancy looking building, great musical spectacle, like they're in a concert. but, sadly all of this is a facade; packaged like a product that is sensibly priced.
Filmmakers have an ethical obligation to ensure that the identity of those who wish to remain unidentified is properly protected. The father of the cult member who is interviewed in this film has his face blurred, but he is shown clearly from behind, his wedding ring (unless it is a deliberate element of disguise) is clearly shown, and his distinctive nose is revealed. Anyone who knows this man would be able to easily identify him from the footage. This represents common poor practice on the part of filmmakers and the man in question has sufficient grounds to complain and/or litigate.
@@blase057 Hmmm. Do you think so? Do you think there's a person who upon watching the video was incapable of recognising the participant, yet upon reading my comment suddenly realised they knew him? I think this is so unlikely as to render the risk negligible in comparison to the potential benefits of alerting the producers and others to the dangers of making similar mistakes in the future. Granted, a UA-cam comment might not necessarily reach the right people, but insufficient identity protection is a common and dangerous error committed by a variety of filmmakers, so who know, maybe it will make a difference to some budding documentarian. Are there better ways of drawing attention to the issue? Sure. If I'm sufficiently concerned, a letter to the group in question would likely prove more valuable. I have now done this. The vice website does not have a complaints email, so I sent it to their press office (press@vice.com). If anyone else can spare the time, supporting emails would likely increase any impact.
VICE has already produced extremely shoddy journalism, and most definitely does not care very much about their sources. There is barely any information in this video, which is disheartening if you want to actually learn about the cult, its teachings and its mechanisms. Social isolation and Love bombing are two concrete measures, but those exist in most cult like structures.
Religions with worship is a cult. Do X and you'll go to heaven, otherwise burn in Hell (or equivalent) for all of eternity. Just some cults are less controlling/restrictive than others.
I was having the culty feeling from the counselor from the very beginning. I guess going "cold turkey" from one religion to no religion can be a bit shocking for some, but it really gave me unease... Maybe is the atheist in me. xD
I was approached by them when I went to Seoul. I knew all about them since before I even got there so I knew I had to politely decline their offer. I've read about a few terrible encounters foreigners had though so it's just a friendly facade they put on whenever they approach you.
5:46 It's been a while, but my recollection of the Bible, is that it's only through Christ that one is forgiven and finds redemption. Don't really recall anything about being wealthy or well known, or some chap called Lee.
After couple of month attending bible study with them there was a d-day when they wanted to registered me as their member. I told them I need time to think about that but kept insisting, not letting me to go home till midnight. They kept saying if not today then I can’t go to heaven ever. Ran away and never saw them again.
I'm just 2 weeks from there study online in from Philippines. So far I haven't heard this. But if this is true, they claiming that their church is the only way to be saved? That is a major red flag. Theres also a biggest cult here IGLESIA NI CRISTO who claimed they will only be saved I guess they where the same. Any church who would claim that is a major red flag.
They will never be able to tell about the brainwashing because it doesn't exist, in fact one of the things they ask you to do is discern who has more truth, any Christian church or SCJ, ask the pastor's about parables and they can't explain it, and the lies about the 144,000 only going to heaven is again false truth thats why in revelation it says there is a great multitude in white coming out
Their teachings are based in parables but have distorted the word of God. They make people believe that they are new members but most people have already been going to the cult for years. Essentially they lie for everything but in every teaching they say that God doesn’t like lies and that the only truth can be found in God. They are always contradicting everything they say. When you ask them what church they do to they will never give you a clear answer. That’s how you know they are not going to tell you where they get their teachings. They don’t tell you from the start that they are preparing you to believe that if you leave that bible study you will go to hell because the word is not in you. Then when you leave they will lie to other members about you and no one from the cult will ever talk to you again unless they leave too ! You become so close to people and at the end they really don’t care about you. That’s not true friendship! They make you think that all pastors are false teachers and they water down the Bible. That nothing outside of the cult is the truth. Man, so much that I can’t fit in her . It’s sad !
Like unification church, they put some their own things along with christian bible. Also, like other cults they interrupt any kind of relationship outside the cult. They even have their own messaging app. It is protected with secret ciphers.
They know the Bible very well. That's the scary part. If you have a question or sth you don't understand, they can quote other verses and have their own interpretations. So, at the beginning of the course, they'll preach the truth and then slowly mix in more and more stuff from SCJ. Also, they meet up so often and teach so fast& much that you have to keep up. This way, it doesn't get boring, and you don't question as much
Unfortunately, Shincheonji are preaching over the world now, not just Korea, but also China, the US, EU, and so on. They also target developing countries for charity (recruitment). My ex-girlfriend who is a Korean is still in Shincheonji. She literally left her jobs, friends, family, and of course, me also for her church. I didn't even realize she was in a cult until one of her friends told me. She's a core member in Shincheonji now. Shincheonji teaches its followers what to say, what to think, and what to do, they control your life with a highly organized system. In that system, it can take years to train a person into a deeply brainwashed core member. Shincheonji is smart, they define their " human resources", which means followers with different social statuses have different " missions". My ex is just from a middle-class family. She then started a part-time job in a local cafe, which allowed her to dedicate more time to the church. As I know, she gave 10 to 30% of her income to Shincheonji every month. After she became a core member, she spent almost 70% of her time in the church, the part-time job was just to cover her daily expense.
I almost got recruited myself. I only got to the parables part that how I knew it was a cult! The guy was black and handsome and ever so subtle! It’s scary

They also both say in Revelation that they are the Alpha and the Omega. There may be more, but I'm not a scholar, and these are what I remember.
I came here to understand this organization and how it works since my mom just joined. I am really worried especially when she started preaching to me the lessons she learned. It sounds like straight up doomsday cult so I'm concerned. Wtd?
The comments are interesting… It’s like people hear some parts of the lectures but not the others. It reminds me of Matthew 13 or Revelation 2-3!“he who has an ear, let him hear”. 👂 It just shows that some can hear and some can’t… propchey is fulfilling right here in this very comment thread 😳 🙇♀️ 🙏

I can't be the only one that felt how wrong showing how "saved" this poor girl is, really was in the context of her story and the way they realized this video feels wrong too. Wrong I tell you. Good to see, I'm not the only one that felt bad for her. Plus her parents did make her very vulnerable against this kind of practices, and act like she did something "evil" or something. It's all wrong, she looked sad at the end.
She was sad for her friends who were still in it, she still has the sting of the fact that she wasted so much time and effort but obviously through the video you can see how glad she is that she found the truth.
I wish there are more videos to truly expose them, and millions of viewers, so those who are trapped in this cult can finally be free. Because there are a lot who follow him and not Jesus.
vice here is supported by different organizations trying to persecute people, they invited those who were ex members to give this statements, this isn't true, don't believe
gotta say; this was some really thin reporting. I was sold on the problems the "cult" has caused; and maybe even the kookiness of the leader, .. but you didn't sell me on the goofy beliefs or techniques this cult was plying on their victims... Just really feels unfinished... 2/10 would not recommend
The point seemed to be giving the example of how they use all the typical, classic methods of cults to entrap people. So at least people can be warned. But there definitely a lot of other more extensive video testimonies from others that go into much greater detail of the actual twisted doctrine you can easily find. You're right....this seemed more overview of the danger.
You can’t call yourself a cult recovery counselor when you are a pastor and recruiter for a DAMN different CULT! my cult is not as bad as that one so come on over here
Can I request all to consider and think, how this "cult" is different from any other branches of most primary religions and their sects that has continuously branched out and is being preached across the world, especially under developed and developing countries? If those religions / sects have somehow converted an individual from their previous religion to theirs, then even this cult is not doing any thing wrong. Does it?
No not since hes young , hes born in to this cult ..... Even bogum name its chosen by pastor there And the cult has been using his name to recruit followers

Can someone help me to make them aware as they are all strangerers and I am not sure how to inform them?
I know right, its so ironic if you replaced the cult name with any major religions name then it will makes sense aswell. Not to this extreme but pretty fucking close enough to the point that its scary.
I used to be Christian and went to church for a couple of decades. I was never once forced to quit my job or pay money for everything. In fact my church helped me during times of need like when my father passed away or when I was going through a rough time in life. Cults are very different. They require you to literally give everything to the cult, including money and basically your life. Churches, REAL churches, actually help the needy through aid and volunteerism and using offering money to donate to the less fortunate. I don’t believe in God or Jesus anymore but you can’t possibly say that churches who actually follow the Bible the good way are bad.
@@erickim1739 @Eric kim Well, to be the devils advocate majority of cults are labelled such because they havent been officially recognised as religions yet and the oxford definition of a cult is very neutral on wheter they are bad or not. A bad apple doesnt spoil the bunch similar to how bad people who follow a religion doesnt taint the religion itself. No doubt religion has done good for the world, and that I believe alot of people would be misplaced, lost or misguided in their life without it. I just personally don't like religion as a principle. The idea of worship something/someone and taking the scriptures as word, and attributing everything to this creator just seems so backwards to me. I belive that in this time and age we dont need religion, the major conflicts around the world can be attributed to differing ideological views (Israel, many of the conflicts in Africa and the Middle East).
As someone who escaped this Hell hole of a cult, I can give you an idea of what they are like:
-They target people who are unsure of their faith, especially if they are emotionally vulnerable (this is called “jundoing”/harvesting)
-They start by asking you superficial questions about your faith and will treat you to meals or coffee
-They invite you to have a Bible study with them, and at first they go over general stuff covered in Christianity
-Then they invite you to a bigger Bible study where they “learn” alongside you and they start texting you all the time and wanting to hang out more (love bombing)
-Once you get through the basic stuff, and after they deemed you open enough to their teachings (soft, tilled soil they call it) they begin to introduce their teachings
-The Bible study become longer, more in depth, and require more dedication
-The people who originally approached you are always following up with you, asking you questions, encouraging you to do more
-Then they start introducing you to a bigger group, and they encourage you to travel to meet with everyone in person
-In my case, I was in college, and when I started struggling to keep up with school they encouraged me that it was a necessary sacrifice
-The out of town meetings grow larger and longer, they start introducing more of their teachings like:
+the Promised Pastor who received the interpretation of Revelation from God
+How only 144,000 are going to Heaven
+If you get through the whole teaching series and then leave, you’ll never be able to get into Heaven
-when you get through all of the lessons, you meet the real deal stuff (Skyped sermons from Korea, groups from all over the world)
-You’re initiated in this super emotional love bombing ceremony
-Then it’s revealed that the people who originally invited you already knew all the teachings, and that they acted like they were learning to monitor you
-You learn the process for getting more members (the same process of how you were roped in)
-They teach you to get people at any cost, even lying or leaving out the truth to convince someone to trust you
It’s so much more, but it would take forever for me to write it all, and honestly reliving it is bringing back the severe depression I was suffering from at the time.
Good for you. You took back control of your life & have a great family to show for it. I’m happy for you
Glad you and your family got out safely man
Yeah i can't imagine how that must have been for you, its one thing for an adult to be lured into a cult as they have the knowledge of a different way of thinking from before they joined but to grow up in a cult and knowing only what they preach and only the people in that cult and then trying to separate from them must be immensely difficult and a huge mental and emotional strain.
My parents didn't influence me one way or the other
@Jo my parents are both Catholics but thought it would be better for me to figure out what i believe on my own. I'm grateful to them for that.
Years after I left I had a friend I worked closely with in scj who got “promoted” to working right next to Lee man hee and when he got up close he saw so many flaws and left.

It's unbelievably important to recognize that all cults operate on blackmail.

The praise & worship was totally off, everyone was singing but not really worshiping god, the preaching was standard, no one was really on fire for god.
What has changed since u left the cult, is the cult still existing?
Yep I grew up in a church that was basically they same, except they were hella racist and waaaaay too nationalistic. Glad my family got out of there
Glad you got out of there? Is that the one right off the 10 freeway? I believe it has Korean writing on it

Worked for the Catholic Church.
It's not inherently wrong to join a church. It depends on what that church demands of you that matters.
I have had similar thoughts as well
I want a father like that. I thank God for the families that helped these individuals see the truth and helped them be freed from this cult.

You can definitely do anti-cult counselling in the US!
luckily there is the internet.
why do you think you can’t do anti cult counseling in the US?

I'm so sorry you're going through this. My sister is sucked in and relationship with the family is falling apart. We don't know what to do
We all spend our time, money, and effort on something.

You also have to take a 6 months bible study course and pass a series of test. But they make you lie to people evangelize like I was lied to.
And you’ve now potentially made it worse by pointing it out?
Social isolation and Love bombing are two concrete measures, but those exist in most cult like structures.

honestly it feels like one cult VS the other
Religions with worship is a cult. Do X and you'll go to heaven, otherwise burn in Hell (or equivalent) for all of eternity.
Just some cults are less controlling/restrictive than others.
That’s exactly the comment I was looking for... I knew I wasn’t the only one thinking that
Yep, that's religion for the most part.
I was having the culty feeling from the counselor from the very beginning. I guess going "cold turkey" from one religion to no religion can be a bit shocking for some, but it really gave me unease... Maybe is the atheist in me. xD
fatima so what are you going to do if your life as an atheist become hard and you get disappointed are you going to come to God then?
I wish you’d talk more about the type of brainwashing. What did they actually tell them? All I hear is how bad it was.
The founder is the mesiah and will lead the way, something about he the 7 trumpet

Thank you brother, it’s because they are lying
You can’t call yourself a cult recovery counselor when you are a pastor and recruiter for a DAMN different CULT! my cult is not as bad as that one so come on over here
14:30 this is golden, one sect calling other sect a sect.
True
So true!
haha welcome to religion
Can I request all to consider and think, how this "cult" is different from any other branches of most primary religions and their sects that has continuously branched out and is being preached across the world, especially under developed and developing countries? If those religions / sects have somehow converted an individual from their previous religion to theirs, then even this cult is not doing any thing wrong. Does it?
I’d say the way they force people to give them money and their ranking system.
Thankyou for this video!!
It's giving me Save me vibes
Season one or two
@@bobbyrayok I've only watched season 1, idk season''s 2 plot but you get what I'm saying
i also want to point out that shinjeonchi church was one of the main reasons why covid spread was huge in korea.
the famous kdrama actor *park bo gum* has been a member of this cult since he was young and has even tweeted his support for their leader.
No not since hes young , hes born in to this cult .....
Even bogum name its chosen by pastor there
And the cult has been using his name to recruit followers
@@rizkyramadhanhasibuan6454 idk if he actually left though. bogum literally tweeted in 2017 his support for this cult. he may have left since then but he was very much so still active in it four years ago.
This going to end like heavens gate or Ohm Shimrikio?
Waco, Texas.
So many bad things growing under the name of “freedom”. I think the so called freedom should have a boundary. And the gov should do something.
We know that Satan will always try to destroy what is from God or what belongs to God.
1:58 "we conunsel cult members, preach the gospel..." What a backwards sentence. Its like he was capable of critical thought for just a little bit.
Haha sharp observation
This so-called counseling appears to be a way for one cult to poach members from another cult.
I have had similar thoughts as well
Gotta love social control ,…….it’s real man. Live your life, love God and be kind to others….not so hard to do,…..no need to “compete” to be saved,..or lie and/or isolate yourself from others to prove what??? 🤦🏽♂️
In the New Testament the devil also quoted the bible to trick Jesus. Just bcs it's a bible verse, it doesn't mean it's the bible's message. Logic.
Actually no, the devil added to Gods Words. The devil clearly misquoted the Words of God, but Jesus was obviously able to dicern the false truth coming from the devil.
I've been part of many cults - both as a leader as a follower. You have more fun as a follower, but you make more money as a leader
What was your cult called can I please be a xybpian I will bow down 942 times if it pleases u. But I ain't got no money haha
How do you get caught up in multiple cults, did you not learn the first few times? Then you go on to lead one? Wtf man lol
@@nedlionx4989 it's a joke reference from The Office
Creed Bratton from The Office!!! haha legendary quote
Jesus can change your life ❤️✝️
I was almost recruited yesterday by people I thought were my friends until I did my research...
Come on Vice do a Vice job on this story.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
My dear Asian ppl... the colonial powers have long existed our continent and so their policies
Why look for salvation from the west ... just look to your own ancient oriental wisdom and philosophy they far exceed your needs and worries of 20 century then the message planted by the colonial powers
That plotting is how emotional abusers start abusing you, they want to isolate you, cut all your ties with everyone that can help you get out from the abuse.
I wish they would have touched more on what is going on inside the cult
The lady in red has a lovely family. I’m glad she got out of the cult.
They call it “plotting”- Yep, that’s the 🚩
also when they ask you to separate yourself from family and friends who aren't with the "church" because they are evil.
haha, I don't know if this was lost in translations, but they usually call it "concept" or "wisdom"
@@TheCptnZ they use the Bible to support their ideals:
Micah 7:5 Do not trust a neighbor; put no confidence in a friend. Even with the woman who lies in your embrace guard the words of your lips.
Crazy is good busine$$. Always has been .
Is this a re-upload?
"churches are insufficient at teaching their followers about cults and their faults" NO REALLY xD
TBH, it's really like a pot calling the kettle black. With one just less restrictive than the other.
The trick for that pastor is teaching critical thinking without teaching too much of it in order to maintain standard/mainstream christianity.
Und jetzt ist das in Deutschland so extrem, immer mehr Menschen werden angelogen 😔
This is spreading a lot in India. A lot of Christian people believe in them even though I am also in their whatsapp group but I am not joining their worship as they change the scriptures but whenever I join the meeting I can see a lot of people joining their whatsapp and telegram group. Can someone help me to make them aware as they are all strangerers and I am not sure how to inform them?
but but but....they're just replacing one cult with a more main stream cult
