DURHAM PIT DISASTER SCENES

(4 Jun 1951) Easington Colliery has suffered the worst mining disaster in County Durham for over forty years; comrades and relatives of the entombed men have been told that hope of rescuing them alive must be abandoned. Lord Hyndley, Chairman of the National Coal Board, and Mr Shinwell were on the spot.
