Two years since a mid-race blunder cost her the chance of a medal, Beatrice Chepkoech made no such mistakes tonight and produced one of the most dominant steeplechase performances in World Championships history.
The world record-holder from Kenya had honed her tactics throughout the season on the IAAF Diamond League circuit, finding an approach that worked for her. Even without the help of a pacemaker, she was able to employ the same tactic in Doha tonight.

Congratulations Chepkoech! Here she was racing against time. Finished so early that she was there to welcome everybody else on the finish line 😁😁😁. Proudly Kenyan
Wasn't she found to be a juicer? I thought I'd heard something about Kenyans being caught doing some bad things...
Let's appreciate Krause also, that was a brilliant bronze. The way she picked off everyone over the last lap was fantastic, almost caught Coburn too!
She was like 4 metres behind Coburn at the finish line. So much for almost.
@@kundakaps 🙄
Yes, a great last lap, but she didn't gain anything on Coburn for the last 120 metres or more.
@@jimbrennan7415 she hat very good last 2 laps

These race's will make you know how 1 second is a lot of time... Congratulations to our champ ..No tactics no plans... You wanna race me .. take me on ..254 high 🇰🇪🇰🇪
We are yet to do this again 🇰🇪 🇰🇪
Chepkoech is a beast
Hardly looked tired
Power of melamine
She's smarter than a beast. After two years of daily study of the steeplechase route, and following the chalk line (especially made for her), she completed the route with absolutely no detours or tea breaks.
A beautiful beast at that.
love all the hugs at the end- speaks measures

Glad to see the east african spirit towards the end when Chemutai of Uganda helps out Kiyeng of Kenya who was out of breadth.
Oh yeah? Well, Coburn was already looking after the one on the ground. And the Africans just walked off the field when Coburn and Frerich were on the ground after their one two win! Racists! Haha!

@@papatorr3669 the Africans got no names. Racist hahaha
@@musicplease5 wasn't there a song about that was in the desert riding an African with No name, so on and so forth? Whatever it was it must have been racist!

I love this! None of that tactical bullshit, just pure running to the line at your pure physical best. Good job for everyone, especially those who set NRs.
I love it when that happens. I'm hoping many athletes will follow suit in the olympics next year.
@@jonathanhole2972 welp
@@jonathanhole2972 If only that happened...
In the mouth of the Europeans, tactical is their way of converting a long distance race into a silly cat and mouse last minute sprint. Run your long distance race hard from the gun and they can't keep up. Congratulations to Beatrice.
In 2017 I was amazed that Chepkoech was able to come back and finish 4th after missing the first water jump. In 2019, now I know: she really is just that fast!
Remember what Cheptegei did in world cross country held in Kampala? He came out stronger!
Kenya reigns!..... beautiful Beatrice Chepkoech
Winning from the front, the hardest way to do it. Total respect.
we are kenyans we dont run we dissapear🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪
That's right!!!!!!!
Proudly Kenyan.Hawa wanasiasa tu ndio hutuharibia nchi.
Oh yes
You guys are awesome
Emma has been running for a long time. Still one of the world's best. We love Emma!!
Chepkoech would have won in 2017 as well but ran around the water jump and had to stop, turn around, run back about 15m, make another U-turn and then go over the water jump with no run up to it. She was almost 40m behind and had to run hard to get back in the race and finish 4th but it would have been a clear win otherwise. The next year she showed how dominant she was setting the WR and now she solidified that dominance in Doha with this convincing victory.
No one knows if she would have won. She made a huge gain after that brain freeze - when the lead group was making the short turn into the water jump, at least two runners almost tripped over Chepkoech who was seemingly more focused on the stands - they were making the turn, but she was staying wide with the wide turn, and almost crossed them up.
But a huge reason for WHY Chepkoech made that big gain to get into the lead group again, was not long after that miss-up, a group of the trailing runners ahead of Chepkoech stumbled over a steeple jump that she was able to avoid, which opened a lane for Chepkoech to move up from the trailing group and give her a chance to catch back up. So had that trailing group NOT had that pile-up AFTER Chepkoech's mistake, she would have had a much more troublesome road ahead of her to get as close to the lead again, than what she ultimately had.
Best to give credit to the runners who actually finished ahead of her, who ran technically efficient races and focused on the path ahead of them, which Chepkoech clearly did not do.....
U sound hurt heal
Sis doesn't even look tired😂😂
Funny thing she didn't even think she could run the 3000 steeplechase her coach just suggested it and to her own delight she found she was very good at it.
@Craig Bphone shut up shenzi type
@Craig Bphone yeah, they call it Mursik
@Craig Bphone Don't dope so much dude
Commentator : "tactics.." technique"
Beatrice chepkoech: Hold my beer, i don't know any of that.
I'm definitely a coburn fan but this was beautifully run by Chepkoech. Great performance!

Chipkoech strategy - "I'm the best, no strategy, just do what I do."
Thanks dia
Chepkoech is unbeatable at the moment. Congrats to Coburn for 3 consecutive medals
These races make me miss the Olympics 2020

So much to tell about these athlets... they are all picture of hardwork... awesome performance... watch with excitement... best of the best athlets... you are inspiration to all... respect from Igorot people Baguio Philippines...
Chepkoech is full of sportsmanship. Keep winning
She congradulated everyone and even helped one to her feet first before she went to celebrate. There's life lesson to learn here ❤❤
That was some extreme pacing 0_o
That was pure hard work ,determination & confidence..... I doubted her when she kicked off from the word go...
You haven't seen her run before then because that's how she runs everytime.
I'm proud of my country congratulations chepkoechi
Chepkoech was so embarrassed by her 2017 mistake where she ran the wrong way. She should have dominated.
A well deserved win from Kenyan girl,,,
Congratulations Beatrice chepkoech.
It's funny how none of the women are at all animated when they get filmed before the start of the race. Usually the contestants smile and wave to the crowd. Here it's like they're preparing before the storm. Especially Chespol, haha
It's because sprinting is a battle whereas long distance running is a war. Except for Haile, he would stand at the starting line of a 10km with a massive cheesy grin from ear to ear lol.
@@MrKarma-bv5dp It is a grueling race.
Indeed. Celliphine is such a cutie but she looks as if she was beaten to the starting line.
when you completely destroy the field and just become a world champion, than go around and hug and congratulate everyone... Bravo Beatrice!
It’s so fun to watch the big group hop over the things, lol
I have waited for this
Me too

Amazing stadium, congrats Doha! ♥️
You saw it too. It's so wonderful
What a race from Chepkoech, leading from start to finish
Kiyeng ran out of steam because she tried to chase Chepkoech early on. She paid for it in the end. Could have won silver if she had been smarter.
freedomm Agreed. She should waited until the end.
I think she still would have a had a chance at a silver is she fully committed to go with Chepkoech early on. I know that it was a ridiculous pace for the 1st k but Kiyeng isn't a bad athlete by any means. She should have either fully committed or stayed back with the second pack instead of ending up in no mans land that early on in the race.
Not convinced tbh, I think Coburn would've beaten her anyway, had been in fantastic form all year. Had ran 9:04 with a fall in Prefontaine, I think she was always beating Kiyeng.
Alan O' Connor Kiyeng regularly out kicks Coburn and has a faster PB. Only losing to her a couple of times.
J Stewart Kiyeng is also the only one who used to chase down the banned drug cheat Ruth Jebet and beat her sometimes. I think she was trying the same thing here but Chepkoech is on another level.
She improved alot since 4th place in Rio 2016
And there was another white from Germany
And another Bahraini instead of Jebet
Beatrice running form is so pretty
No doubt, the WR holder!
Fair play...backed her self from the beginning and delivered
Emma is my fav by far, love her style ❤❤❤
Beatrice Chepkoech won the race at the starting line.
@Craig Bphone Well if you said so it must be true.
By the way when were you in africa looking in suitcases last?
i cant have enough of steeplechase
beatrice chepkoech kudos kenya juu
One second ahead each lap, dominant!
No disgrace to Coburn. Some defending champions didn't even medal. 2nd place to wr holder almost undefeated for 2years is no shame. Congrats to Chepkoech for bouncing back in style from London 2017. Congrats to Krause, I just love seeing underdogs doing well.
Huh? Sorry, but Krause already got bronce in WC 2015 and is the european champion. 2017 she was knocked out by another runner. She is really no underdog. That here was a tactical clever reace from her - may be a little bit too late for her finish - Coburn wasn't out of reach.
No shame to anyone of the finalists. Getting to the final is no mean achievement.
That was a ridiculous pace by the WR holder 😹😹😹
She was there to win her first world title not to break record 😂
Your name sounds Ghana, how many world titles have you won let alone records 😆

Why are the commentators focusing on Emma here. My goodness it was a splendid performance Chepkoech
❤❤❤❤Kenya always best we are proud to be Kenyan
Chepkoech wasn't running to win but to silence mouthful Emma Coburn.
I don’t think she even knew Emma was there cuz she was too far ahead to hear any voices of steps. Emma probably forgot about Beatrice too cuz she was too busy to secure that 2nd place. Emma joined Beatrice at the end to take a picture because everyone wants to be around the best. It was a nice race for both girls, they got what they came for.
@McLimo,
she even took Emma Coburn's Championship record of 9:02.
When Kenyans said that mistakes happened in London 2017 (when chepkoech missed the water jump and as a result, the US won, Courtney Frerichs asked; "WHAT MISTAKES?"
That must not have gone unnoticed by the Kenyans.
Frerichs was sixth! She was sixth down from silver.
Yes, mistakes were made......by the Kenyans in 2017. I've also heard that Chepkoech fell (in that race) but that is unproven.

She's Kenyan, but you know what? East Africa for life
Keep it up kenan team.
🏅 Brave run and improved. sat-nav navigation for the winner 🏃♀️
These women are all winners. If I had to run at that pace for 3000m they would have to get a stretcher to carry me off. And that would be after the second lap
Introduced chemutai for a second and he closed it off for hours . Never judge anyone
The commentators were highly focusing on Emma
She's still a good athlete tho
She still has the energy to pick her countrywoman up (who only wanted to rest btw). The Kenyans have sustained excellence in distance running. No wrong turn here. Just blast to the finish line. Chepkoiech, Kipyegon, Obiri, I love to watch all 3.
Lol @ “rest”
Beautiful people the Ugandans👌💖🙏 Brilliant imagine being the fastest woman on earth!🥰
The way the camera easily passed on the winner of this race 🤣🤣 Team Uganda 💪🏿
time trial for chepkoech
Gracias por el bello resumen desde Venezuela
I love her style of racing
Redemption from 2017
Coburn had great strategy. when she came closer to the second last water jump she increased her pace because she knew she is the best at water jumps
Chemutai good work
Chepkoech 🇰🇪🇰🇪
coburn has great hurdle technique
I can't even imagine running 3000K in 10 minutes...only to end up in last place.
Frerichs has a better PR than Coburn yet can't seem to beat her in championship races.
LOL took advantage of Beatrice Chepkoech's SAT NAV problems
Congratulations to Emma because East Africa has been there Normaly on the podium
She had race with non!
Could yous post the heats too please :)
Gesa Felicitas Krause superbe on top Sie ist die deutsche Zukunft wie Konstance Klosterhalfen und Alina Reh sowie die Sprinterinnen.
She just sailed through that
Beautiful Chepkoech is her name!
Does anyone know why some of the athletes have different coloured backgrounds for their name tags? Eg. Coburn and Chepkoech
I know red means defending champion, idk what yellow means

This is going to be mad in TOKYO waiting. May the best lady win.
It was a matter of time before Yavi won a gold
Take that Emma Coburn. You were beaten flat. So happy that Chepcoech won
