Yeah ranger rolls are good shit. It's really easy to look over their necessity, but in a cold weather environment they are ESSENTIAL. Any non insulated liquid you bring into the field with you should be stuffed in a ranger roll, and then placed in a water proofing bag in any environment less that 32 degrees outside. In extreme cold environments, covering your canteens in a pair of socks is not enough. Roll your canteens into your ranger roll (insure the lid is secured), place both ranger rolls in a water proofing bag, and keep all 6 pairs of your cold weather socks in the water proofing bag with it to prevent them from freezing and possibly getting damaged. Your 123 batteries for your PEQ 16, AA batteries for your PVS 14, and AAA batteries for your red leans headlamp should be placed in ranger rolls as well. Even CLP can freeze if it's cold enough, so you might want to place your cleaning kit in their too. Your water proofing bag compresses, creating a vacuum in which the internal temperature is less likely to freeze because the lack of ambient air to cool. Place your water proofing bag in your main pack, and if you surround it with your sleeping system, it is very unlikely to freeze or become damaged. You'll be issued a Nalgene and insulated carrier for any cold weather environment. The construction of the Nalgene in combination with the insulated carrier prevents it from freezing as you wear it externally on your kit, so long as you zip it up all the way. Unfortunately your camelback becomes nearly useless in the cold. It's large volume and mass make it incredibly likely to freeze, rendering it out of commission. It's nearly impossible to properly insulate, even inside your pack. This is why keeping your canteens from freezing in your pack is so important. The only functioning hydration sources you have are your Nalgene and your two canteens. If you didn't secure your Nalgene carrier all the way, and it freezes, you better hope to god your canteens aren't frozen too.
Thank you so much for the advice! I am in the Civil Air Patrol and I am packing my 24 hour search and rescue bag and I was looking for a way to pack my uniform so that it does not take up so much room. This video helped me out so much! Thank you!
I'm not military but this just saved me a bunch of drawer space can you do videos where you show how to organize things the military way for everday life. That would be a great service to your countrymen..... Just think about I knew your busy
While I have very little interest in actually joining the military, I was in cadets as a teenager and can appreciate what it is you're trying to teach here. I can only say that I wish I knew about this technique for rolling my shirts much sooner, since it's incredibly compact for use in backpacking.
Prime no I didn’t die, i passed BCT and AIT. And within 9 months of joining i was deployed, still out here right now. Definitely be ready for everything and anything.
This is so freakin helpful. I leave for basic training on Monday and I was majorly stressing because I couldn't get all my kit in my bags but I did this and it all fits. Was even able to do it with my snow suit and rain suit too and it all fits
I literally looked at multiple videos of ranger rolling but the hardest parys for me are the lip you do on the bottom of tshirt and the slack part on the burrito
God bless your soul 😂 thank you thank you thank you for explaining everything you were doing. Idk why but I struggled with the last step (tucking it into itself) from watching other videos. So thank you x100!!!
Are you referring to MOS AIT or other extra training opportunities? There will likely be things offered to you such as Airborne school, but otherwise it is usually courses applicable to your MOS and/or unit and position like I was supposed to go to an armorer's course and a security course for sensitive items, etc.. One of my soldiers went to a course for Retention NCO duties. He became our unit Retention Specialist, since he didn't have his stripes yet. These are usually two weeks, or less, kinds of things. If you are in a POG MOS and you want to go to Jump School, volunteer for it before, or during, BCT. The likelihood of your unit sending you there later on is not good unless you are assigned to an Airborne unit. So get that when you can. Sniper school and such is only going to happen for you if you A: are in a unit with a need and opening for that, and B: you are chosen by your leadership to go there. I was in watercraft so there was an opportunity to go to a Combat Rescue Swimmer course at one point. Again, your unit leadership will decide who, if anyone, they will send there. So you need to jump on those things when they come along or you may not get another chance. Talk to your recruiter about this.
Gosh I thought this was boring.. No you want me to make my bed?!?! But that probably wont happen just because I don't have the bed/sheets for it to make it work correctly.
Lol this is far from boring, you give the most idepth videos I seen no matter what the topic because its all helpful. But yeah that makes sense, thanks for entertaining my suggestion anyway.
Where you might find this concept handy is in AIT. There will always be classes graduating and others arriving. When people leave they tend to leave behind things they don't want to pack or ship home, etc. so you may find some items left in the barracks. I'm not advising any sort of shamming mind you, but let's just say that I found a pair of boots that were in a locker we cleaned out and they were close to my size. I didn't wear them but I shined them up real nice (this was in 2001 when we still shined boots) and put them under my bunk on display. So I didn't have to keep a shined pair I wore down there and that bought me another day before I had to shine again. Time is precious in AIT, so any extra display items like that can be a time saver in some way. You may even find something you can use. When we graduated, we used to give away stuff to other's especially the newer guys that still needed to buy things. But, yeah Matt's right, you won't be using anything you brought with you from home, in BCT. AIT's another matter.
I bet for you it will be! haha Been watching a long time it's like I'm giving you every bit of info there is. lol Just stay in shape and you will be gtg
I loved this video, our first In Person Drill this weekend, and.. honestly, being 36.. I want to make a good impression, having my sh*t together and clean.. will only help.. thank you
Hey great video! Also I have a question, so I took a practice ASVAB today and got a 49 which isn't high enough to enlist active duty. But my recruiter said that if it was a real ASVAB I would've gotten in the 50s. Can you answer why I would score higher on a real ASVAB? Is it because the practice is harder or what?
Your so-called Ranger Roll was not taught in Ranger School; yes I earned the coveted Ranger tab. Nine weeks of pure hell. Basic training is where we were taught your technique, it applied to socks as well.
Just out of curiosity why not just roll the blouse up in the pant leg, instead of taking the time to roll it separate just to shove it in the pants afterwards?
Abraham Adams Then look at the benefits for each branch and talk to both recruiters to see the availability for the mos on each branch. Generally I would say army for rotary wind and navy for fixed wing.

That's great advice about insulating with your clothing. A lot of people won't think about their batteries draining due to the cold.
Dude just made a whole ass essay on how to keep a waterbottle warm
its alright but it would make a lot of creases
Thank you so much for the advice! I am in the Civil Air Patrol and I am packing my 24 hour search and rescue bag and I was looking for a way to pack my uniform so that it does not take up so much room. This video helped me out so much! Thank you!
That blanket looks so comfortable.
It is :)
This could be useful for people who have to many T-shirts as well.
Definitely, I’ve used this to pack my clothes for trips, helps a lot! Haha
definitely going to start using this
I'm not military but this just saved me a bunch of drawer space can you do videos where you show how to organize things the military way for everday life. That would be a great service to your countrymen..... Just think about I knew your busy
I watched you before I joined the army. Now I’m watching you at my duty station. Crazy ..

Thanks for the advice! Ship out soon and will take this advice at reception!
Good luck!!
If you've been following these videos, you will be way better prepared than most. Best of luck to you, and thanks for your service.
This just made number 1 on my list of "Videos I should have watched before BCT"
This made my MEPS/BCT prep 10x more efficient
I head out to basic next month and i was practicing my rolling with my civilian clothes. Next thing I knew, my entire load of laundry was done😂
How's the military life?
Did you died?
Prime no I didn’t die, i passed BCT and AIT. And within 9 months of joining i was deployed, still out here right now. Definitely be ready for everything and anything.
That bottom to be used as a bag and place your top in it is awesome!
My lil cuz went to basic i thought him a form of the ranger roll wish i saw this vid 1st. You explain it a lot better for any beginner.
This is so freakin helpful. I leave for basic training on Monday and I was majorly stressing because I couldn't get all my kit in my bags but I did this and it all fits. Was even able to do it with my snow suit and rain suit too and it all fits
Good to know preparing myself mentally and in cleanliness to be ready for everything to come in the future
Every video you make will make my son much more knowledgeable when he heads to basic training.
These videos are super helpful. I want to get as much info on basic as a can. I don't find these boring
I used this technique even after I got out. Great for packing a back pack for camping, even had my son do this in Boy Scouts
This video is really useful. I'm leaving for BST this month. Thanks Matt.
I’m a USNSCC Cadet and your videos literally save my life lol
Amen! This makes packing for my ruck march way easier!
Cheers, this works for the British army's kit too.
Thanks! This was very interesting and useful
Random* your blanket looks so warm and fuzzy!! lol
It is :)
Thanks this really helped me out for my first deployment
This shit changed my life
I literally looked at multiple videos of ranger rolling but the hardest parys for me are the lip you do on the bottom of tshirt and the slack part on the burrito
I'm practicing this everyday!!🙌Thank you Matt!!!
God bless your soul 😂 thank you thank you thank you for explaining everything you were doing. Idk why but I struggled with the last step (tucking it into itself) from watching other videos. So thank you x100!!!
Best ranger roll video i ever watched the most useful too thank you
I appreciate all your help, especially since I'm leaving for Fort Jackson in two weeks for basic
Can you make a video on What are all the jobs/training you can get chosen for after basic training and how to get chosen
jessie tate you choose your MOS before basic

I was quarantined after 1 day at reception. Looking for everything I can to make the following days a little bit easier
What a F*cking good video! Thanks for that dude!!!
I wish I would have known this before I shipped out to basic. I didn't learn how to ranger roll until I actually got to basic
Very instructive video, I’m leaving soon for bct
I’m going to use this for my Cozumel trip!!
This was incredibly helpful.
Hey Matt, could u make a video on how to pack your rucksack. Please
:0 nice video, can you do hospital corners for the beds next
Gosh I thought this was boring.. No you want me to make my bed?!?! But that probably wont happen just because I don't have the bed/sheets for it to make it work correctly.
Lol this is far from boring, you give the most idepth videos I seen no matter what the topic because its all helpful. But yeah that makes sense, thanks for entertaining my suggestion anyway.
Hey man, This might be a silly question but can you bring boots to basic training if they are regulation boots so you have a second pair?
They issue you two already and no you can’t wear any boots that you bring.

Thank you - this is useful information for all!
Very good information learn something new from you bro everyday # You got me feeling like bct will be a piece of cake
I bet for you it will be! haha Been watching a long time it's like I'm giving you every bit of info there is. lol Just stay in shape and you will be gtg
Will do bro
This was extremely helpful, thanks.
I loved this video, our first In Person Drill this weekend, and.. honestly, being 36.. I want to make a good impression, having my sh*t together and clean.. will only help.. thank you
Do u have time to fold up all the stuff u get at reception?
Can you keep your patches on when doing this? (name tapes, flag, etc)
I wish they taught us this in the Air Force.
If you lay the top on the bottoms you can roll them both at the same time
But if you only need one at that point then you would mess up both rolls..
can you do the cadet caps like how you shape them?
Is it same rolling short and socks same with Air Force BMT?
U are the best 👌

Sick shirt!
What better the Army Roll or ranger roll
Bruh, I CANNOT get my winter OCPs that tight. 😮😅
What a time saver!
This is soooooooooo helpful !!!!!!!!!!
This is gold
Notification squad!!
Now make a video where you time yourself! 😂
Lol maybe if I ever have to pack things up soon but I wouldn’t count on that video lol
Life hacks , can't wait to show my mom
would it be a bad idea to tie the draw string after stuffing in the shirts?
Do a slip knot or something that can be undone easily
I'm in JROTC so this helps

How many uniforms do you get issued at reception?
4
Can you do this in basic?
Thanks for the help
I like that blanket
Oh it feels amazing :)
At ft benning the only things we had to roll were: socks, underwear, undershit, pt shirts. The rest of the stuff was hanging.
What's the deal with guages in your ears and joining up
can you rewash your one uniform and keep the others rolled to make it easier? someone told me something about that😂
Yeah, they even recommend that you save an extra pair just for family day or block leave if you're doing training during the holidays
Yeah I’m just watching this because I haven’t ranger rolled since basic so about 5 years ago😂
Are wrinkles a big issue when unfolding them?
You don't care about wrinkles on the uniform. 👍
Hey man, so i really can't choose whether to join Navy or Army, do you have anything to help me choose?
What mos do you want?
rotary wing, pilot
Abraham Adams Then look at the benefits for each branch and talk to both recruiters to see the availability for the mos on each branch. Generally I would say army for rotary wind and navy for fixed wing.
thank you :)
Thanks!
Thanks for the video
2:10 начинается ролик примерно по делу
Am I the only one who's always packed clothes this way? My mom taught me this when I was like eight lol
How long would this usually take
It takes a while to fold everything but it depends on how fast/good you are at it. But maybe 20-30 minutes for just the uniform.
Nice 🙏🏽
Thanks matt
Thx brother
Genius
Can I ask how tall you are?
5ft 10in
nice silk bed ;)
its roll!
I'm watching this because one of my dad's pet peeves is me not folding my clothes fancy soo...
Not my style, but I dig.
show us your drawers!!!
Good video
Thanks!
T-shirt burrrrritooooo
This doesn't work on jiu jitsu Gi's lol
Play Spec Ops: The Line.
Whooa!
R.I.P. the thumbnail
😅
It's ranger roll not ranger role lol
Oops
The role of the Ranger is to roll into danger!
wont that stretch the shit out of your pants
Not the uniform no. They don't stretch... lol At all! That's why it's hard to do the top.
After the Biden admin I don’t foresee many kids joining the military. I won’t be encouraging my kids and. Have been for the last 6-10 years.
