Thank you for the explanation. Your last comments about blocking out chunks of time to help complete tasks that take awhile to get ramped up for was most beneficial as I constantly find myself gearing up only to take a couple steps back due to multiple distractions. Thanks again!
Atrendia yes, knowing what emails are in the 20% is how to handle the volume, then making that a priority every day. For me I try to do it at lunch time as that is when my normal mail arrives and people are on lunch breaks.
I use google mail that sorts into 4 categories, so that the only thing that hits my inbox is directed personally to me. Then i set up 30 minute time frames where i just focus on emails, usually 2x a day, lunch and 5pm. During that 30 mins i focus on the most important email first (ie 20%), then second etc. I also use an addon to gmail called streak, that allows me to snooze emails so they dont get lost and i dont get overwhelmed. This systems usually helps keep me on top of the inbox, hope it helps.
