I lived in Missouri, north STL county a few miles from the Chain of Rocks bridge. My dad and I would fish from the bank on the Missouri side. The bridge was still open back then in the 60's and it was a great place to fish and explore. Great video.
Jen and Matt, I really love sitting in my tent after a good day of paddling the Missouri and watching your videos. I do a FB posting everyday and it takes me forever, I can’t even imagine the work that goes into what you publish, but thanks, it’s great! Sorry I missed you at the confluence, but after 1300 miles I still have 1000 to go! Take care guys and be careful! Nanook
The structures by the chain of rocks bridge were actually living quarters back in the day. There are massive pipes that used to supply water to the city St. Louis years ago. Workers would live there running the operation. It’s a very neat story to look up. So, in a sense they were kinda air BNB’s haha.
Cool...I work at the water treatment plant at the Chain of rocks...those houses in the river are the old water intakes for the plant...no longer in use
The Missouri is a beast of a river! Loved seeing different portions of it on a road trip I did that included Montana and Missouri. Got to camp right along the banks in Missouri too. Enjoying your journey!
At the confluence, the Missouri is indeed the bigger river, both in volume and in length. It's arguable that the Mississippi should be the tributary, not the other way around. If it were, the Missouri would be the world's longest river.
I remember folk trying to explain it to me as a child - why is one of the longest rivers in the World the Mississippi - Missouri, not just the Mississippi? I did not get it for quite a while. Interesting to see the confluence - The Confluence of confluences. Also enjoyed Chain of Rocks, a cauld (as we call them here in southern Scotland) across the "big" Mississippi. Really cool!
You went right by my hometown of Alton, Illinois!!♥️🔥👍 You portage’d just south of downtown. It would have been so awesome if you had spent some time there in town but understand you had to get to St. Louis to meet friends.👍
Spending any time off the river was more difficult than you would think. Since we couldn’t just leave the canoe and all of our possessions unguarded. And also, we only had about 75 days because that was Jen‘s summer break.
Heckuva storm! Glad you guys were inside a vehicle. Timing is everything when it comes to river angels. My guess is, you don't die! Paddle on. Tortoise
I've found that the local TV weather generally has the best forecasts and usually have their time-lapse radar online. I have my favorite local station bookmarked on my phone. When I'm out of town and need weather info, I always look for the local TV station websites and see who has the best weather section.
Columbia Bottoms wildlife area were the confluence of the Missouri and the Mississippi river are, was setup by my mom, Nancy Weber, the 2nd ward St. Louis city alderman and Ron Stites a Missouri conservation commissioner in the late 90's. You camped at Mosenthein island and across the river on the Missouri side is north riverfront park, and there is a buried 3 lane concrete boat ramp and a parking lot under about 20 feet of mud, the Mississippi river shifted it's river bank.
Just have some kind of check in please, there are folks beginning to worry about you both. Signing off with "maybe they die, or maybe they don't," is a bit much when you go dark.
Before I learned to check the Instagram, I used to become anxious at the end of every UA-cam episode wondering if this would be the night that you guys were killed in your sleep or swept out to sea. 😢 I would grow concerned if you were just a little bit late and uploading your video. My hypertension is much lower now and and I couldn't be enjoying the videos anymore. Best Series ( thus far ) seriously this is a most awesome adventure
St Louis can be a dangerous spot; other humans can be a problem. Not all are River angels. Hope they are fine, maybe having technical issues. If you drop your cell phone in the river, maybe no posting till there is a new phone. Anyone have any suggestions?

Per Taters the city should turn those into high dollar AirBnBs. She would totally pay to stay there
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes Totally agree. I think everyone I've ever gone up there with has said that.
@@kmarqu20 From just over the river in Illinois. Adults would tell us that's where the tooth fairy lived when we would cross the bridge.
Wow! Perfect timing! Paddle On!
When I was young, we’d camp on sandbars around this area, and it’s so cool watching this as an adult.
Wow! Your number of viewers just leaped up by around 100 between ep. 39 & 40. Congrats!
Hey guys, hope you're ok! Haven't seen a post in a couple days. I really enjoy you two.
Expedition to the Gulf was going great. Then big tributaries came in and the river picked up speed. After that, things went south fast.

I live around this area. I grew up here in Alton/Godfrey and I know exactly where everything is at. Hope you enjoyed it🙏🏻

The storms have been insane this year! Hopefully it will calm down as you head further south.

Inside a vehicle for *this* storm. The next few days however…
Thanks, looks like Taters has learn how to paddle a canoe, safe journeys. ✌🏻👊🏼
Loved the lightning show. Stay safe but enjoy your paddle! Sorry nothing was open for refreshments but that's what you get leaving early😂
No post today??? Coffee wasn’t the same. I’m addicted to both. Hope you crazies are ok. 🤷🏼♂️

I love it!!!!
wow what a light show stay safe out there
Lol. I remember that storm. Did get a little hail even though I am about 20 min south of there.
That was some rough weather.
Just have some kind of check in please, there are folks beginning to worry about you both. Signing off with "maybe they die, or maybe they don't," is a bit much when you go dark.
Hey Y'all. There is nothing quite like a big thunderstorm while trying to sleep in a tent.
Ludicrous speed 😅 - classic
That was crazy!

OMG! Above comments were made before I watch the episode
😊 so glad you are enjoying the ride with us! And that it’s no longer causing undue stress
Missing my daily dose of adventure with the dynamic duo!

We are currently just short of New Madrid. Been struggling for days trying to find enough internet to upload amid all the storms and such
Not seeing a post scares me. I hope everything is alright.
Scary storms! Stay safe 😊
Love
I love grafton i try and go every other month
7:45 Spaceballs! Does Jen get the reference?
At least they didn't go into "Plaid" speed!😁
Did you spot the Piasa Bird?
Exciting. You can imagine that with less experienced tenters that could have all gone very badly.
That was epic be safe
Looking forward to new posts. I hope you guys are ok.
The Ohio River has the biggest volume of water of all.
That's only because the Missouri has many reservoirs that controls it flow
Chain of Storms
Scary storm
wow
Old River Lock or BUST !
Are you guys OK??? Doesn’t look like things are going well over on Insta
Things have been going about how you expect on a long trip, interestingly :)
Maybe Missouri is moving faster due to rains?
😎✌
Did you die? Why do you leave us hanging like this!? 😜
Title is just pure word soup. Had a brain aneurysm trying to read it.
