Apologies for the posting delay. We haven’t managed a decent cell signal in days out here. We actually pushed on to set up camp across from Caruthersville tonight just so we could finally get these up. So it should be back to daily episodes in the morning. I also hope you all like storms…
Same. A good friend wanted me to accompany him on a canoe trip through Stl but I thought it was impossible on a canoe. I wish I would've seen something like this before he had kids...
OK, she is paddling and steering ... she's kind of a gem ... you're kind of a lucky guy. ... and she also has a background in basic chemistry (no pun intended)
Thank youtube algorith gods, this videos have been great, was waiting to see this one being from st. louis area, and seeing grafton and all that fun up there, also drinking through st. Louis i feel is very "when in rome" lol
You might have missed the residential areas, but some of the local landmarks you didn't miss were the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge (now closed to vehicle traffic, former home of Route 66) visible at 2:31, with the "new" (1966) Chain of Rocks Interstate 270 bridge immediately south of it. Interstate 270 is the northernmost rim of the outer belt that surrounds St. Louis. The Merchants Bridge is not shown, but at 4:51 is the McKinley Bridge, followed by the new Stan Musial Interstate 70 Bridge visible at 5:11. The Martin Luther King Bridge appears at 5:16, with the historic Eads Bridge seen underneath. After the Gateway Arch (America's smallest National Park) is the Poplar Street Bridge which carries Interstates 55 and 64. At 6:22 you have traveled beneath the MacArthur Bridge, still open to train traffic but the upper deck has been closed to motor vehicles for decades. Last but not least is the Jefferson Barracks Bridge at 9:41, this carries Interstate 255 which is the southern loop of St. Louis' outer belt. Glad you liked the toasted ravs!
Great teepee! Always fun to do something different, esp. when it involves AC, showers, tasty food, etc. Hope the current continues and the storms abate! Paddle on! Tortoise
I didn’t even think it was legal to canoe the Mississippi, lol. Pretty awesome! Definitely driven over it many times thinking “wouldn’t want to be down there today”.
I'm surprised that air conditioner doesnt mind being turned on its side and then back upright and then ( i assume) pretty quickly turned on? From what I understand that can be hard on the compressor.
Your friends set you up with a lot of good St Louis stuff. Did you get gooey butter cake too? That stuff is a huge sugar bomb. You can get the original and all sorts of versions like brownie gooey butter cake. Anyone with a serious sweet tooth should try it. Very glad to see you made it through that section without hassle. The biking/hiking trail from Chain of Rocks to downtown runs by a huge amount of industrial/commercial sites. It's pretty much one long uninterrupted industrial zone. The residential areas only start five or six blocks in from the river up there. South of downtown it's a little different. There, the land is higher closer to the river and you have residential closer in some places.
No gooey butter cake but they fed us so well we probably would have had trouble getting it down. I’ll have to try that when I hopefully hike back through on the ADT next year :)
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes Just google google gooey butter cake st louis to find plenty of lists of the best places to get some. Opinions vary as always. Any local bakery/pastry shop will probably have it.
I’m from St. Louis and have floated long stretches of the Missouri River, all of the current and jacks fork. Iv floated all of the meramec. The Mississippi is one I have yet to venture on. The lack of traffic is interesting. I actually live 10-15 minutes up stream from where you took out. I may have to do a couple days from the confluence down to cape maybe. I’m glad this video found me. Much love guys
The river channel in front of the Arch is very narrow and deep, which makes for some very fast currents. When the river is high, there is choppy water there, very hazardous. So it's fortunate you made it through smoothly with no incidents.
Y’all passed by my work with the green sennebogens. We all think you guys who kayak and canoe this river are some crazy individuals. Deep down we’re just jealous
You should consider getting a small sea anchor for going downstream against the wind, the current will pull you along at the speed of the current. Not as fast as wind to your back, but faster than paddles with wind in your face
In 2011 when I went up in the Arch it was a flood year and I was looking down at a flooded Mississippi with tons of debris in it. Your water looks much lower! I still worry about debris, given all the toys you are finding....
Actually lol the viking Mississippi was in saint Paul mn last year and I tell you what, it was the biggest boat I've ever seen on the miss river or anywhere for that matter and it might never came back cause of drought and poop... and stuff..... love the channel and by the way taters big shout out to you lol I have fallen many times listening to you laughing
Have you considered a storm anchor to let the current pull you better? Another interesting video. You have to treat Taters to the Princess Bride. Have Fun. Good Luck, Rick

Toasted ravioli, not deep fried but yes its amazing. Sad they didnt give you some cheese ones, those are big here too usually provel cheese instead of meat

Glad you're both ok (ish)😅
I'm very happy you are doing well! Just watched new video. You guys make me laugh 🤣. Be safe.
Absolutely, hands down, you guys have the best canoe channel on the Mississippi
Much more. Check out the long distance hiking. They are great too.
As a St. Louisan, I would never in my life get on or in the Mississippi River lol. I can’t believe y’all aren’t wearing life jackets 😯
We have them on whenever things get to pay attention levels. And paddling through STL was a lot easier then we expected after all the warnings
I have been in it hundreds of time up at Grafton. IDK why you would be so city

@@integr8er66 Yea the Mississippi aint bad, the Missouri however...
So glad to see the video today. You truly make my day.

Glad your ok. Nice day after the storms. Paddle on to the gulf.
Hey Jen, you really need to see "The Princess Bride"!

I think, if given the choice, if I had to go through St. Louis, I'd also drink my way through, Love your journey guys!

I’m almost 10 years older than my husband and the other day I was singing “The Things We Do For Love” by 10cc and he had never heard the song 😱
You need to float the Mighty Mo..they do it a lot from Kansas City to St.Louis..tell Taters hello.....smile..thanks

love paddling that section
Lived in Alton and canoed from the bluffs to Hartford. Fun but kinda crummy.
Not seen the Princess Bride? INCONCEIVABLE!
When you get off of the river you'll have to screen The Princess Bride for Taters. I think that she'll very much enjoy it.
Did you see the sunken WW2 mine sweeper ship sunk in the river?
We saw a number of wrecks sticking out of the water but not sure about that one since I didn’t know to look
DID you know you can canoe from the Atlantic all the way to the Pacific across Canada and your furthest portage will only be 8 miles?
!
Toasted Ravioli. Delicious no matter what the name
I was a fan
You passed my hometown.. chain of rocks..
7:15 never seen the greatest movie ever!? Inconceivable!
Some years, the river floods up to the arch steps
Hey Y'all, rest easy in air conditioned comfort!

"air conditioned teepee" is a bit misleading... "A bottomless tent and a portable A/C unit"
Love
Toasted ravioli, not deep fried but yes its amazing. Sad they didnt give you some cheese ones, those are big here too usually provel cheese instead of meat
It is called Toasted Ravioili but it is actually fried
They are 100% deep fried.
You guys are lucky to be alive....so many people die in that river because of the insane current. If your canoe tipped....
Kentucky fried movie!
Drinking your way down the river is a very STL thing to do.
Going up in the Arch was not a fun experience. Talk about claustrophobia.
Hey just a guy from st.louis here. Everytime ive been down by the river there are always police boats poking around for bodies! lol. Great city!
Congrats. You got through Stl and didn’t get shot or robbed.
Kimmswick, no 'h'.
😎✌
If you get run over by a barge, you might BE with a topless girl.
What is half topless girl? Just one side topless? 😂
