"A man who works with his hands is a laborer. A man who works with his hands and his mind is a craftsman. But the man who works with his hands, mind, and heart is an artist." Beautiful!
I STOLE that quote .... inspirational for sure
That's just beautiful....I never heard that ...😯😇❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
great!!!
What about a man who works with his penis?
X@kly. My whole life. Even now handicapped in my chair. Still manage to create everyday, invent new things, help others, and sharing my Music and Art to inspire others means the world to me. Inspire them, and their smiles will brighten your day continuously.
I would appreciate this man sitting in a large leather chair, in front of a fire, telling us stories and thoughts that come to his mind. What great energy mixed with a soothing voice.
Leather..???why leather ???
He gives me a warm feeling of an wise old storyteller, Gandalf, Bilbo and Tom Bombadil.
@@science-y9209 because the treated skin of long dead animals feels nice
That's my earthy, poetic and beautiful dad! What a great video you have created of him. He's Ian Turnbull, not Trumbull :)
Give him a hug from me for being such a wonderful human being.
My dearest daughter, thanks for your appreciation. I was looking to include the photo where you came in your school uniform one afternoon and passed barrel staves up to me, to form the vaulted ceiling of this sma' building. Och, but I canna find it. Our black dog was in the photo too. Trust this finds you well.xxx Yr. dad.
"What's your name?" "Turnbull". "Trumbull?", "no, Turn-bull", "Turnbaugh?", "no, let me spell that for you, t, u, r, n, b, u, l, l". "Turnbo?", … and on it goes. It doesn't seem like it would be that difficult.
I love his enthusiasm, and his willingness to just try things. What a great soul he has. Blessings to you and your family!
Are you kidding? that's not your "Dad". That's GANDALF. He made it all the way from those years to the modern age.
Just love this man. The hobbit house is lovely and charming but the man that built is just as lovely, charming, imaginative, and entertaining. I could listen to him all day.
#AGREED #TRUTH 👏✌🙏
Absolutely wonderful spirit just beaming out of this man!
He kind of looks like Gandalf !! Love his voice and accent.
In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit, and he was a wonderfully charming man with a heart of gold and a musical voice that inspired all who heard it. He loved to collect forgotten bits of beauty that others, whose vision could no longer perceive it, casually tossed away. He was a rather normal, rather mundane man, and appeared to not be particularly special - but the fiery magic of creation dwelt in his heart. It revealed itself in his songs, in the things he built with his hands, and in the love he gave to his family, friends, and community. His treasure was whimsey, his wealth measured in smiles & laughter - a horde no dragon could touch. He discovered the majesty in the mundane, and preserved the fabric of creation with the simple, small, everyday activities of life done well and worked in love.
How is this not the top comment? This is very beautifully written. Thank you for using the Oxford Comma.
@@dariusmagnus6926 Long live the Oxford comma (and thank you for the kind comment)!
Truly a moving piece of writing. Thank you! I'll pass it to Ian
2:49 HE FOUND ONE OF THE TEASPOONS BILBO LEFT TO LOBELIA SACKVILLE-BAGGINS!! IT'S ON THE SITE OF THE ORIGINAL BAG END!! WE'VE FOUND HOBBITON!! (just kidding of course, but what a neat coincidence)
I think this guy has
Got life figured out

He's my new favorite wonderfully quirky man, living in a creative, original way. Cheers and long life!
Plus he’s wearing Crocs!
Wish I knew this guy. I doubt problems would seem quite so important after a brew and a chat
#AGREED #TRUTH 👏✌🙏

Ian is an amazing man with a beautiful spirit...
WELL DONE IAN!!!
PEACE BE WITH YOU!!
I Love how he just Happened upon everything he needed to build this. Each part has a story. Love it
This is one of my favorite buildings. And I was fortunate to spend time with Ian in 2003 when I was there for the semester...his work is all over Findhorn and it's magical.
This man is fascinating! I love the humility and honesty he expresses while telling how he built the house. He really made a beautiful house, probably because he is a beautiful person.
He is such a character, isn’t he 😃. He quite the lovely fellow.
What a lovely man! Should be more like him in the world! Truly inspirational! A beautiful, magical building and fantastic idea! Recycling at its very best! ❤🌈
Bro's wearing some crocs ftw. My man.
I've been there, and sat inside, meditating. It is every bit as peaceful and beautiful as the video shows. :)
Me too. Blessings....
Me too:)
I admire his attention to detail when it comes to the purpose and feel to the space. What a wonderful man.
I'm heading up there now hoping he'll be another grandad for me :D I could listen to this guy all day and learn so much. Seems like a really top man. How rare will it be too find a guy like this in 50-100 years with the way society is changing.
They shall never truly die out, heart and human spirit are eternal.
What a wounderful man. Im sure we could learn a lot from him.
.." I thought it out myself " awww man good for you kind sir!!😂👍💙🍻
Blessings to all for such a lovely video. My mothers side came from Scotland and I've many a fond memory of our sejour of a year there in Ayre.
Again, guys, you have found another unique person with a fantastic person with a great dream. Thanks!
There is magic left in this world yet.
Ian Turnbull is an inspiration! A wonderful person and a great artist!
Oh that last sentence gave me goosebumps because I had come to that very conclusion of you in my mind! Would love to see it in person sometime but excited by self built and sustainable building ideas! Thanks for sharing 🌸
Its a quote by Francis of Assisi
Reincarnated Gandalf
Zom_ Brit yeah he missed hobbiton 😂💪🏼
That was brilliant... I like how well it integrated into the garden... Splendid!
Absolutely delightful !! I was smiling through the whole video-Perma Grin. Aahh. Findhorn. A place of miracles.
what a wonderful, soft, kind and humble man! I could listen to him talk and explain things for hours. His voice and demeanour is so calming.
I'm also surprised that I never thought about building anything with old whiskey barrel wood. What an amazing idea. The wood is beautifully aged...
Yes it is a piece of art, this little house. I have been singing in there too and I am so grateful for the inspiration. We can all be artists. Just do something good and creative with the things or people that are around you. Don't follow a plan. Let life guide you. Creativity means uplifting the world with what is within you and around you.
Warning!! Will Induce The FEELS! thank you for sharing
Lovely! Thank you, Ian! Loved hearing the story of these buildings.
Love the singing together...arm-in-arm...hugging one another... what a warmth of character he has... plant fruit trees everywhere and there'll be paradise... big hug from Cape Town...
Simply fantastic film about a great building. I’ve seen pictures of the building before, but learning the story of the guy who made it has brought a new dimension. Thank you!
Wonderful munificent spirit. "Oh! There's a teaspoon. Just found a teaspoon." And continue on with the stories... what a delightful fellow.
Wow!!! He is an inspiration!!! A free spirit!!
I loved this man, everything about what he's done, how he views it, how he speaks it. Such loving energy. My all-time favorite, hands down.
Absolutely inspired by and enamored of this wonderful man's creativity and spirit
Time has had no negative effect on this person's passion. You can feel it is his voice and see it in the glow of his eyes. Mesmerizing Man.
The place has perfect, loving vibes..great to meditate in!

Wonderful place and the owner has a nice spirit..I am sure there are trolls and gnomes living around the property...lol...would be interesting to know what if any repairs or re-dos he has had to deal with over the years....
@JRRnotTolkien no doubt!
It's the nature sanctuary, part of the Findhorn community. No one person owns it, the community does
He is so lovely!! ♥️ He's a sweet gentle soul who I bet is lovely to talk to and learn so many things. Such beautiful mind and a poetic and a warm and lovely voice. 🥺✨
I love scrounging! It takes imagination. Your three windows say everything about letting go of perfection. I love it.
This dude is heavy duty. He like a Guru.
Lovely home and other structures, Ian. Thanks for sharing.
That barrel idea was pure genius
So much love for this video. You can feel the soul of this place and the beautiful human who brought it about.
I am planning to build a house into the mountain side on my 5 acre piece of land. This guy is incredible. I love him. Thank you for posting this amazing video.
Have you started yet?
@@Sunshine_Daydream222 I have done most of the digging. Little more dirt to move. But the structure is a ways out as of now. I will post updates on my channel.
♥️I have so much gratitude for the nature sanctuary and its creator, Ian. I have very special memories from singing here, and it will always occupy a special place in my heart. It was fascinating to learn how it grew from Ian’s vision, and what he found around him. Truly miraculous! 🙏🏼
Wow this is like when people build things out of palette wood but to the twentieth power. All the materials were either found or got cheap, and most of it recylced. Really inspiring.
What a wonderful attitude to life this lovely man has.
What a memorable quote to end on
What a lovely video - such an organic process, building of this sanctuary - I love the whimsy - and the 🎶 and art 🎨
Love the stories of the stones, and the barrel stave window frames! And of course the roof ...
Amazing video, thank you!

Lovely man and incredible work!!
What a wonderful man... Humility at it's best!!
Such a beautiful story and home, you are an inspiration, thank you for sharing your creation for us to see.
Epic! I love the insight behind why and how he did every little bit...applying some great sacred science!! Good on you sir!😉
Hallelujah and Amen. Thank you so much for following your Heart.
I love your whimsical notions, I think it's about time I visit Findhorn because I have been meaning to do so since the 70s.
SO AWESOME TO HEAR HIS STORY. reminds me of my father who built his house, even when he was paralyzed on his lower body , no wheel chair, no money and a young family. he crawled holding and pulling himself on a fence to visit his mother and father 2 houses down. he built it and it has endured multiple storms with little damage until MARIA hit the island. but it's back and all the love never crumbled.
Fantastic edit. I was endlessly charmed by that man.
The cable idea for the roof was brilliant, definitely make my mind start thinking of ways to apply that in other scenarios
Such a gentle gentleman. Delightful!
Awakening by Amarante again on your video yay
Interesting guy, really liked the ending quote.
Wow very inspiring! Thanks Mr.Ian!
