I completely understand why Microsoft chose to have Copilot confirm yes or no. They went with the Apple method in which they were concerned someone could remote in and quickly change their system settings and hack their computer. It's just an additional layer of protection. Some may hate it, some may like the extra step, and some won’t care.

That response to the disable WiFi request is so bad I can't stop laughing. It gave 3 conflicting answers, one in which it misunderstood what you wanted to do and claimed it can change it for you but requires you to click a button to confirm, one in which it misunderstood and opened the app for you to do it yourself, and one in which it understood but told you it can't do it, and it showed all three at once. That's 3 strikes from one prompt.

As someone who has worked in software and game QA, Linus is doing exactly what needs to be done here. Luke has the developer hat on, but Linus is 100% acting like a regular user, typing things like a typical user, etc...
And most people are not power users who will not use a thing as intended, or at least partially so. So these things DO need to be ironed out.
I don't want AI integration in Windows, and as a paying customer since Win95, I think it's fair I have a vote, as small as it is... But we're past that, so oh well. Might as well make it as good and robust as possible if they expect people to use it.

I have to disagree. Luke realized that this version of the software is not the same as the article/video the reacted. So it cannot be held to that standard. MS is not made the video about this version of the software. They made the video about the newer one which is not published in the Windows preview program.
Yeah linus is doing the dumb user testing. On a different software. We do this too. We show videos about features what are not published into the current demo app. But they can try out the current version so they can give feedback. And if someone is looking for the features from the video we tell him that is an in development version of the software and the feture is not finished yet. Usually they understand it but they don't need to nake content out of it.

Linus and Dan...I don't see a problem with what we're saying lol
The CO pilot seems to be just a combination of a search engine and Cortana essentially. It's a way to help with accessibility if you know enough this isn't going to be useful for you because you already know how to access this stuff faster.
While I can also understand needing the user to click yes and confirm that you want to do whatever it thinks you're trying to tell it to do in case of the event it misinterprets what you are telling it to do
at the same time I feel if I typed in a command asking it to do a specific task that should be taken as me confirming/consenting to making the change/apply the setting automatically
Any problems with applying a setting or changing something could be accounted for by just putting a prompt asking to keep the change or revert back like how when you change a display setting
But again it's more accessibility if you know how to do this you could just do it yourself faster and then you don't have to go through all these extra steps

I was with Luke on this one for until Linus made the comparison with a video game and I changed my mind and I agree with Linus. So many times a game that is published is nothing like what trailers showed because the game was altered and most importantly significantly cut down in content and features cause they ran out of time to iron it out, and them releasing a preview makes it look like it's likely to be this type of a scenario.

I don't think copilot can work the way Microsoft wants it to without it being a massive problem. Microsoft wants you to be able to ask it questions about your own data but then that would require Microsoft having access to that data, and with ChatGPT literally leaking other people's information when asked it would be an IT disaster. Honestly the state of this software is so horrendous that I don't think it's unreasonable to at the very least raise very valid concerns. And being frank, if a newer build with added functionality DID exist, I don't see why Microsoft wouldn't release that instead of this piece of garbage as their preview candidate. Microsoft screwed up in any case, but it's important to criticize the right thing. Luke was guarding against the very real risk of publicly judging the wrong version of a product. It would've been a different story if they knew for sure that their version was the correct preview.

@@Xehlwan The point of my comment is more addressing the people who still seem to be acting as if the software is gonna release with something better. It's been a week, the release they talk about in the video came out.
Also, to a degree yeah I do think it would be that strange. And most of Linus' complaints are, as he said, design decisions not code ones. Microsoft is far too large of a company to make rapid changes to that, anything in the works has been in the works for a while and I can't foresee the magic world Luke describes where the software comes out in 4 days and suddenly works completely differently.
This is all a moot point though because as always, it doesn't really matter if you're right if you're being right in an annoying way and if people dislike Linus' attitude then regardless of whether he's correct people will be upset. AI probably doesn't "understand" in the same sense that humans do, as computers are pure math machines, and our brains are complex physical systems. But what AI does / can do, as a math machine, is run extremely complex probabilistic models that are refined with thousands of hours of human output and feedback, to essentially guess what do humans think the perfect human would do in the task that I've been given. Because of the raw amount of calculations going into these predictions, probably on the order of at least quadrillions (a few days of cpu cycles for a single cpu), these models get pretty good at making the correct prediction in these circumstances.
