Another crazier setup would be to modify the emulator to render a video file instead of outputting to screen or something like that.
That last part has given me an idea: would it be possible to lock Mario into the star animation for two years using knockback and a supersaturated Bob-omb? Or will the "ledge grabbing along a wall" strat remain uncontested throughout time?
Note that after being softlocked during 2.3 years (10:30), the first thing Mario does is to go into a cannon to kill a Goomba and then breakdance. Guess it's a kind of way to relax after being stuck for all this time. Great video as always Pannen.

It's a technique called "Billboarding" I don't know the technical ins and outs of it, but it makes sprites like coins and spheres always face the camera to give the illusion of 3D, it saves up space and keeps the framerate from slowing down since you need a higher number of polygons to make rounder shapes in actual 3D

If you collect a star, then Mario is unaffected by everything, including knockback
Sunk Simp well the bomb disappears, so the thing preventing Mario from being trapped is gone and he lands back on ground
I'm pretty sure objects don't unload because Mario collects a star, unless you're talking about something else
