Thank you so much! I found my hazard light assembly behind my dash and it took 10 minutes to hook it back up! Had the car almost as long as this videos been up and its always just been a hole where it should be 😆 I should have looked it up on here a long time ago. I've even asked a few mechanics and they never could fixed it! Thanks again!

Remove the vent and the instrument cluster bezel. Have a great shortcut - Instead of removing the three 7 mm bolts for the switch holder - take a square object against the center of the switch and tap it with your hand. Pops out and does not damage the holder. I used the end of my quarter inch ratchet. Not sure why GM was using electronics from Britain for the original switch.

Thanks for posting this video. Very helpful in getting me started replacing the switch. I looked all over for a new bracket and can't find one so I'll try to be extremely careful with the old one. Hopefully I benefit in that regard from your misfortune. :)

For sure! mine was fixed with some JB weld, and I did have to buy the correct switch. I highly recommend rock auto for parts.

The plastic shoulder on the blue switch maybe slightly too thick, so it isn’t seating into the bracket far enough for the side tabs to click back and retain the switch. Another commenter mentioned filing the new switch (on that shoulder too thick) should do the trick. Still another commenter’s recommendation to pop the old switch out with a hand thump using a wood dowel looks like the holy grail solution I need. My vent will be destroyed if I try to remove. My replacement switch ordered on eBay for $13, still not arrived yet.

That explains the JB weld in the other guy's video. LOL. Nice job AIC.
It's not you, it's the Alero. Always bad luck! I have a leaky water pump. The mechanic wants $650 to change it because in the Alero he said you have to remove the timing belt to change it. Wow.

My water pump was replaced recently. First quoted 790.... Then I found another guy who fixed it for 560.00. Now I have this issue to replace on 2002 for 180 or do it myself.

I've done this before. It does fix turn signal issues. My experience is that replacing the multi function switch does not fix turn signal issues.
I have 1/4" drive ratchets that are smaller than most from Advanced Auto. Get em when you see them. They've made life very easy for me.
lastly when I bought the replacement part it worked. It was also the same green color as the original.

yeah, the turn singles go through this switch, and it seems to be a common fail point for a lot of GM cars.

Instead of unbolting and removing the entire assembly, would it have been possible leave the outer part bolted in place, and simply pop out the inner part and pop in the new one after removing the new one from the housing it came with? Since the new housing didn't fit anyway, that may be how the manufacturer intended you to proceed.

    • @AICvideo
      @AICvideo  6 років тому +1

housing didn't fit, because the part was wrong, I ordered a new part, and it was a perfect fit. The outer part has to come off.

AICvideo ya the housing for the new switch. You said in your video that it looked almost the same from the original. Just wondering if you tried using the original housing and insert the switch into it since the after market one you bought was broken.

i discovered I only had to remove the black bezel around the instrument panel , although it took me a few days because I get frustrated , but after several tries i realized the two little protrusions at the head of the switch goes in the twelve O'clock and six O'clock positions. then the switch slid into place in 5 seconds

  • @mrbreezeet1

i'd almost bet, if I had that new switch, I could take some measurements, and file or sand that new switch down a little bit, and get it to go.
Also when you get the switch in the plastic bracket, I would wrap electric tape around that mickey mouse bracket,
so it don't bust apart some day on you. Then maybe a zip tie or two, around the plastic bracket.
Mine just broke, and they want about $30.00 for a new bracket, and I don't want to put the money into the heater with a beater. (Other way around)

I just bought a new switch, doorman brand, amzn.to/2jKzppI, for the $15 it was worth just getting the new switch, and Got some JB weld, and while I was waiting for the switch to show up I JB welded the bracket, and the new switch just popped in with no issues at all. I've since sold the vehicle, so any issues it may have are not my problem.

    Feedback:
Again great video, it was very helpful. But you are moving your camera around pretty fast and we get a blurred view. I suggest that you edit your camera footage, so you can cut some of the long pauses out. In these types of videos people want short videos that show them what they need to do to fix something. These are just a few helpful tips I came up with. If you would like a little help with your videos, please email me at christianicoffey@gmail.com, I won't ask for any personal information. I'm just someone who is trying to help others grow their channels. I see potential in this channel.
