I got an almost new HP Elitebook 6910P with the same spec exept for the gpu from a relative.
Used for around 1 month then packed down (the wifi didn`t work) Corrupt driver.
Fun to play around with, going to max upgrade it for sure.

Core (2) Duo laptops are still usable for some less demanding tasks. And given that they are too old and slow for everyday use, but not old enough to be interesting to collectors, they can be had for extremely cheap in general. I've got a Dell Latitude D420 including power brick and docking station for $10.

I recently picked up a used HP Zbook Studio G5. While it's a 5-year-old model, the specs are still impressive and the design holds up well. For me, anything older than 15 years wouldn't be ideal. In today's market, laptop prices, especially here in the Philippines, have come down significantly, making newer models more accessible.

I also just picked one of these up. Couldn't believe how cheap they are. I wanted the experience of unboxing a new old stock laptop, and this didn't disappoint. Both the CMOS and Main batteries are stone dead in mine, but that was expected. It's an impressive little machine, and I enjoyed re-living the windows XP setup experience. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. I initially purchased it to make it a linux laptop, but I'm thinking of just leaving it as is (never connecting it to the Internet) and making it a journaling computer.

I have a similar model, 6510b. I enjoy typing on it than on my newer laptops. Sadly, it has very big fan noises and it is said to be common on that model.

16:00 3gigs is very normal for 32bit OS's as they generally don't support anymore. Apart stuff like Linux PAE etc. That thing actually likely has 4gigs of RAM inside. *Edit* Commented too soon before BIOS screen :D

I have this same computer, only with 4 gb ddr2, 120gg ssd and a t9600 along with the radeon 3450. It's impressive that you got a new one...
I used it with Windows 8.1, because in Windows 10 you will not be able to use AMD catalyst and the performance will be very poor. I decided to go to linux debian xfce and everything works great.
