Thank you so so much for this! I just failed my first attempt by 9 points! But I have to say for me jumping in this brand new, learned it in 6 months, while working, as a single mom with a child of special needs...I'm not mad about it. While I did purchase the study guide book, I know now to purchase the practice exams and learn my weaknesses. I also got to the cases 10 questions with only 10 min left! found myself skipping the documentation and just coding the procedures. Now I know to start there. Anyway, this video really helped me and I appreciate the humor in the beginning/motivational words at the end. Thank you!

I see this is an older video so not sure if you still view newer comments… I have taken and failed the CPC exam 3 TIMES now!! I am feeling so defeated… I only have 1 test retake left and idk what to do. No matter how much I study I just keep getting the same exact score, but when I look at the categories the scores seem to fluctuate. I am at a stand still, I’m scared to reschedule this again. Maybe a tutor could help, but from what I see they want $50+ an hour and I don’t have that kind of money… I’m a SAHM trying to get back into work. Someone help me please! 😭

@ it’s so frustrating but we just gotta keep trying! I’m retaking for the 4th time this upcoming Monday and I’m terrified… I read a comment on a Facebook group the other day by a lady who said it took her 7 tries to finally pass with a 72! Thanks! I really enjoy your videos... I am a nurse trying to get my CPC. I took online coding courses in 2016, but didn't feel they prepared me for the CPC exam. I wish I had just took the courses through the AAPC. I took the exam this past December, but failed by just a few points! :( I took the exam a second time yesterday and am waiting for the results now. It's going to be the longest 2 weeks ever! I'm feeling much better about this second time, but still worried I could've failed. The CPC is so hard!
Tabitha you can check the results on the AAPC site where you would verify credentials. I took the exam online, so I don't know if that makes a difference. You may want to check either way. I agree with you, I found it more difficult than my RN exam. Waiting for the results I felt as though I failed. With the online exam I was able to take it on separate days, therefore I scheduled them a week apart. I was not able to complete all the questions on the first part and felt as though I got a lot of them wrong. If this is what you truly want to do, don't give up or loose faith. This is not easy. I plan on continuing watching and practicing with Victoria, Hoang, and Going IR Coding group. I hope this helps.

It isn't showing me anything when I try to verify credentials yet as well. Yes, it is a very hard test. I thought it was much harder than my NCLEX-LPN. I have a friend who isn't a nurse that took it and passed it the first time. She went through a really good coding program at a local community college though. Did you pass? I hope so, good luck! I thought about taking it online, but I'm "old school" I guess you could say. The thought of someone watching me remotely that I didn't know kind of creeped me out lol... So I wanted to take it in person paper & pencil. I know everyone is different though... I'll try to update soon and let everyone know if I passed or not.

Talking with another nurse, she brought up a good point - as nurses we have a difficult time removing that process from the analysis. As for someone looking at you via webcam it is no different than in person. Don't let that intimidate you. You got this girl. The only disadvantage is that you can only take the test once opposed to twice if you paid for the in person voucher. Do you :) darling. Keep checking the verification site on AAPC daily opposed to waiting for a notice. They will get it posted before the information is mailed. Although I passed the exam I still have a lot of work to do. That is why I will continue with my "triple threat!" We need to prepare to be in the real world. As Victoria says "keep on coding."

BHAT and CHUN are trademarked techniques for how to mark up your book with notes, highlights, etc that may aide you with code selection. Some coders swear by the techniques. Others have been extremely successful with never using them. It is EXTREMELY time consuming, and I honestly haven't notated my books since I took my exam. You can Google "CCO BHAT" and they will give you information on their "BHAT cave" that will walk you through all their notation methods.
I failed my first attempt and am still struggling to be fast enough for the exam. That's my main weekness. Taking the practice exams has helped quite a bit, but I'm still not feeling prepared enough for my second exam coming up soon. I even graduated top of my class, but can't seem to get a grip on this. I feel so burnt out, but I'm also a SAHM who is trying my best to find a way to get back into work.
Update, I decided to take the advice from this video and allow myself more time to get better prepared. It's better to pay the rescheduling fee of $25 than fail and pay out an extra $400. I also feel so much better with this decision.

As Victoria says we need to "keep on coding" in order to prepare for the real world or being on our own when we don't have multiple choices just an inundating op report. Today I got my result 68% I have failed exam, but I want to reschedule it asap I'm really in need of a job so how can I reschedule in a very short time
A score of 60+ "shows you know a lot more than you think you do," providing some comfort. But, I agree, a 64-69 score is so frustrating, because it makes one feel that a few bounces here and there, could have made the difference.
I failed with a 63 🤦🏽♂️ but I had more than 2 hrs remaining. Edit: I struggled with pathology and medicine THANK YOU I’m focusing on those now, But will I be taking the same test when I retake the exam?
I took the CPC for the first time this past December and failed with a 62. It's frustrating when you're that close to a passing score of 70. I just retook it March 27th. I used the AAPC CPC study guide both times I took the exam. I highly recommend it if you haven't purchased it. I had a couple of questions the last time I took it that were almost word for word like the manual. I felt like the study guide was a lot like the actual exam! Both of my exam books were different. I felt the second exam book I got was easier than the first exam book I had.

It comes via regular USPS. It typically doesn't take too long if you're within the continental US, 1-2 weeks. Not sure about other areas. If anyone needs to verify your certification status in the meantime (such as an employer), they can do so by plugging your member ID number into the AAPC website.
No I didn't. I used to had a teacher for my tutoring but pandemic hit so we stop. From there I tutor myself. My exam was last weekend Saturday and didn't make it too, but I keep pushing myself and not giving up.

You do not need two years experience to attempt the exam, but in lieu of 2 years experience (or equivalent as outlined by the AAPC) you will be designated an apprentice medical coder.

Not that I'm aware of, no, but you would need to contact AAPC directly for the definitive answer.

Membership is yearly so you only need to buy it once a year. Check your account to see when your membership renewal date is.

Open exam vouchers .it says attempts available is 1 . So iam nervous .i thought there were 2 attempts .why it didn't show 2 attempts
You have to call the AAPC for assistance with this.
Do we need 2 years of work experience to attempt this cpc examination?
You do not need two years experience to attempt the exam, but in lieu of 2 years experience (or equivalent as outlined by the AAPC) you will be designated an apprentice medical coder.
