    Great review Mojax - I'm sold - it probably works out cheaper than my Ecamm Live subscription in the long run with extra functionality

    Thanks for this review! Well done! I know and have seen the 2 excellent UA-cam Channels you referred to at the beginning of this video but I find this review refreshing because it is done from a real-life user point of view rather than from a more technical point of view on the subject. It's always good to have both points of view. Thanks again for this video... keep them coming! !. André :)

    Good video. As I am not into the DJ scene I did not what to expect from your video. If you ever get fed up with DJ-ing you have a good future in sales. You ran through that Atem like a pro. I'm a broadcast engineer and I could appreciate your expertise.

    I just bought the ISO. I'm using it for a 3-5 camera podcast. While they are shooting I'm cutting in and out between hosts/guests and computer. The idea is to swap the footage later with the UHD out of camera and just make the minor adjustments in Resolve. My current method is to do the first pass roughly cutting in the person who is talking, then a second pass to hit the right frame, and then the last pass to cut the excess space adding overlays etc. 3 passes. Sometimes I do 2 passes at once. I do this to keep it fresh, but with the ISO i'm hoping to just do the last two passes at once. This i'm hoping will cut my editing time down from 3 days to 1 day.

    btw a pcie capture card with 4 hdmi inputs that support up to 4K30 is 300$ so if you already have a PC it isn't such a expensive upgrade anymore, compared to before where the only pcie card with 4hdmi ports that didn't require you to sell a kidney was black magics decklink quad hdmi for 650$. What most people don't know about the streaming software and PCs is that if you have a quadro graphics card the hardware encoder chip on those is not artificially limited by nvidia to only 2 videos/streams like the GTX cards. The 4 camera view with a animated background uses barely any resources if setup correctly, I only say this so people don't get the idea that streaming with a PC is this convoluted thing that requires a data center in order to work, it's pretty simple just requires some time to learn these things and the things you can do with a PC can destroy hardware solutions if you start getting into more complex graphics that react to inputs or other data.
    As a conclusion to my comment i would say the main selling point of the ATEMs are the mobility and convenience you save by not having to carry around a PC in order to stream. If you have a PC with decent components adding a capture card is not that much of a issue anymore, I have done jobs with a 2700x ryzen processor and a 1080ti and it handled 6 4K hdmi inputs like a boss, these components are now about 400$ to purchase, so if you like to tinker with things put the time in to learn the material or if that is not your thing purchase a hardware device to save time.

    @Mojaxx, as you're an audio professional, I'd really like to hear your perspective on the utility of the built-in Fairlight FX in the ATEM vs. the Rodecaster Pro (obviously, an XLR pre-amp of some type would be necessary if you're using an XLR mic).

    Great video - just subscribed to your channel...
    We have just connected our ATEM Extreme ISO into a 8RU switcher rack we have built and all is going well - the Extreme is a really game-changer at the price point!
    BUT I'm now trying to get my head around the best way to connect a Behringer 404HD and our Mackie PRO FX12v2 in the rack to the 2 mic inputs on the switcher obviously via 'the line' option - and you are clearly an expert when it comes to audio...
    I now understand that both mic1 & mic2 are actually STEREO UNBALANCED inputs and having bought 2 XLR to 3.5mm stereo mini jack cables from Amazon UK to connect from the XLR BALANCED output connecters on both mixers I'm confused to say the least ;-)
    Is it important not to mix balanced outputs to unbalanced inputs? and if so what's the best solution as I appear from my initial testing to have to crank the levels right up to get an anything like decent level into the ATEM..
    Would appreciate any advice you can give me, best John.

    • @RolandDobbins
      @RolandDobbins 3 роки тому +2

      You can split each input into 2 discrete channels, if you like.
      That being said, I use a 6mm-to-3.5mm cable to take the balanced output from an ART Voice Channel directly into Mic2 (set to line-level) on the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO, with zero problems.

      @@RolandDobbins Thanks Roland - does the cable need to be balanced or unbalanced? or doesn't it matter?

      @@ONtvChannels - I'm actually using a mono 6mm-to-3.5mm adaptor, with a standard stereo 3.5mm male-to-male cable.

    an important detail is @ 9:30 you mention to record from individual HDMI input , the HDMI input has to be Black Magic cameras for recording ISO, as earlier you did mention camera control for the BM cameras , an important detail to know when purchasing extreme or extreme ISO, ISO is only Black Magic Cameras....

    • @atrain421
      @atrain421 3 роки тому +1

      I don’t believe that’s true.....

    • @Mojaxx
      @Mojaxx 3 роки тому +1

      As James says, that's not accurate. I ISO recorded this whole video, with no Blackmagic cameras. I think you're confusing it with the ability to start/stop recording the BMD cameras remotely using the ATEM.

    • @GamersPlayerUnion
      @GamersPlayerUnion 3 роки тому

      Yeah definitely not true bro. The only thing ISO recording can’t do is ISO record the supersource which I hope can be updated in a future update

      @@Mojaxx Glad to see you at least got to test the ISO version. In your review, you sounded ambivalent about whether you would buy that model, mentioning the storage burn rate and additional expense. Since it appears as if (and correct me if I am wrong) the mixer also has a dedicated USB port to attach an external drive, it seems as if the ISO model may be a winner from my vantage. 12TB hard drives are in the $300 range these days, though admittedly I don't know if they can keep up with the write speed requirements of the ISO recording mode. If it requires SSD speeds, I can see why that option may be more challenging to justify the added expense, given the much greater cost of speedier storage it would dictate to make much use of it.
      Regardless, at the price point I am really impressed! I can't even begin to tell you how many more features that offers relative to a video mixer that was closer to $20,000 from around a decade ago which I utilized at a previous employer. It seems as if consumer HDMI is getting beyond pro level features that wouldn't necessarily even be found on HD-SDI video equipment of yesteryears (alas, the HDMI connector is still one of the worst ever created and don't even get me started about HDCP and DPCP and complete waste of computational effort and copyright protection canards).

    "Street" ...what do you know ? I had mine for a min now (non-iso). You better know someone that knows someone that knows someone for a lower price. I have to say it is overkill for simple streaming for many DJs esp. those with no BM camera. You can still record and stream with the Mini pro and the stream bridge is an option for HDMI. I use mine for live event streaming coupled with Vmix. The 2nd HDMI is used for house display. Good review though.

    • @veegee1974

      No one is streaming in 4k. 1080p max, but mostly 720p.

    • @grey5626
      @grey5626 3 роки тому

      What @@veegee1974 wrote basically.
      Blackmagic already sell cameras which can shoot 12K. At the moment, I am not even sure what can *display* 12K. So unless you're a bleeding edge Linus Tech Tips betting on the future sort with the sponsors to fund it, GWLT. As it stands, there are merely a small smattering of 8K displays on the market, a handful of 6K displays, Apple had their 5K iMac, and 4K is predominantly for pre-recorded content. Not to mention, broadcast monitor displays, last I checked (which was a few days ago) were all 4K max, though at least some support 12G-SDI over fiber now.
      tbh, I am surprised that 4K is as popular as it is, but then given where I am couch surfin' had a 4K 65" LCD in their living room, but only a standard 1080p BluRay player hooked up to it until I upgraded them to a 4K HDR region free BluRay player late last year, I get the impression the average consumer remains mostly clueless. When I worked for the company that did the first HD live streams on the web, I tried, unsuccessfully, to convince the CEO to invest in 4K Red cameras (this was back around 2007), he wasn't of the mindset that anyone would even notice a difference above 720p. Moreover, while storage costs always go down, the bandwidth and transcoding requirements to support multiple live streams are non-trivial amounts of computational complexity and since Amazon bought Elemental, that took out one of the best live transcoders on the market. That is, unless you want to contend with Jeff Bezos' taint, and I do whatever I can to steer clear of that surveillance capitalistic nightmare.
