Mindy Kaling (who also plays Kelly) wrote the most episodes of "The Office" of any of the writers on the show. She's incredibly smart and funny. Some of the episodes she wrote were the the best ones like "The Injury" from Season 2 (when Michael wakes up in the morning and accidentally burns his foot on his George Foreman Grill which is on because he HAS to wake up to the smell of bacon cooking lol). Her character may be superficial and vapid, but Mindy, herself, is not. I think people tend to confuse Mindy and Kelly together and think they're one and the same. Mindy is a really talented comedic writer.

But when Kelly left the show, it was really quiet. Like it actually changed the atmosphere.

Its crazy how Mindy started as a writer at The Office at the age of 24 and wrote such huge episodes like Niagra Falls. I also love how she's not afraid to poke fun at her and BJ's relationship with Kelly and Ryan.
My favorite line from Kelly has to be "I'll tell you one thing, I'm not going to be one of those moms schlepping her kids around in a minivan. I'm gonna have an SUV with three rows of seats."

It's great to have minority characters who aren't just pandered too, and put on a pedestal of competency. She has the full range of experiences, from loveable to toxic - like the white characters. Minorities can be assholes too. No doubt thanks to Mindy Kaling's actually involvement in the writing process.

I really liked the Darryl/Kelly relationship, however short it was. The way he shut her down quick when she was running off the deep end is priceless. He's the only person in the show that was able to tame her for 5 minutes. But, since Kelly's pretty much a joke character, they couldn't have her seriously date Darryl b/c it would have forced her to grow, which wasn't really the intention of the character. Sucks.

Right? People who hate on Mindy Kaling because Kelly was annoying are getting her confused with her character. She wrote some of the best episodes of the show, IMO.

She might be an annoying character, but she does the annoying "girly girl obsessed with celebrities and fashion" character really well. great shows need unlikable characters otherwise it wouldn't be so dynamic, and the show would be boring. I don't get why some people don't get that. what made the office so great was all of the different personalities.
Talented writer and played her character exactly as it should be,some of the Office people you might forget Kelley is not one-shes a main stay.
Also, Mindy wrote some of the best episodes of The Office and that's the best part for me.
Yes exactly. I always tell people my favourite character is Kelly and everyones like "ew why shes annoying" but it's because Mindy Kaling does it so WELL. And the office is filled with annoying characters, that's the reason the show was so successful.

i pretty much adore nearly every character on the office, but i do agree that shes probably in my top 5 of best side characters. honestly, though, nearly every character on this show is amazing.

That's why their characters were strategically placed in the annex so that they can be in the writers room even when filming. They don't always need to be seen
