🙂 the performance of that card is kinda misleading because its paired with a modern day cpu motherboard ram combo. Its all Relative. The Video Card is getting a huge helping hand from the Operating System and cpu board system ram and Video Game Engines are all designed to use the cpu motherboard and system ram to help the video card perform better. So logic would dictate 10 years from now whatever the modern cpu motherboard and ram combo is at the time then you should expect this card to perform even better. The reverse is just as Logical, you plug this card into an older platform that uses ddr2 or ddr3 memory and the performance of the card will be greatly reduced. Just in modern times alone this card might perform differently what cpu board ram your using? Is it threadripper or ryzen 7? what generation? bios version? ddr4 or ddr5? ram speed? motherboard chip set? and what if its an intel chip? i3 i5 i7? generation? ddr4 ddr5? 🐢😊🐢

The 7790 was the launch of GCN2 (not the R9 290X, which used the same architecture, tho obv with a LOT more shaders). So the 7790 was very advanced for its time, with hardware support for DX12 (version 12.0). If you find one with 2GB of vram it can still play a bunch of games. The 7790 was later rebadged as the R7 260X.
sadly all of R7 200 series have worse power consumption compared to HD series 😢 R7 260X consumes 30w more or that's maybe just TDP and not for actual watts

I'm really enjoying the Sunday videos where you benchmark ancient GPUs! I've actually been learning a lot about older GPU architectures including this card's (which honestly still performs impressively for its age).
I remember when 7970 came out, it was super expensive at 550€, some of them had artifacting and bad coilwine, they were pretty toasty and consumed a lot of power, but later became cults as prices gone down, 7850 was a budget favorite as unlike 750ti, it could play anything at 1080p confortably at just 150€(same we had with RX570 years ago).
@@mclarenf1gtr99 i owned R9 290x/390x 7770 & 7850 & 7950 never had driver issues or artifacts but had overheating issues with the 90 series so i had to use them with 70% fan settings! sometimes more LOL
It supports DX 12 natively as it is GCN 2.0 instead of 1.0, similar to the R9 290. A bit like how the GTX 750 TI is Maxwell instead of Kepler. It really sucks that RDR2 doesn't launch solely because of VRAM. You tested the r7 360 before and that worked, which is actually a weaker version of this GPU; it just has more VRAM.

The PubG optimization is night and day from what it used to be. I used to play it with an RX480 4GB card, and it was not good. I was always tweaking the settings trying to get a decent framerate and frame time while being able to see enemies. On the HD 7790... I guess this is true always. The midrange cards are the best value- not too expensive or power hungry when new, but powerful enough to be useable many years later. back then it was common for carbs to come in two variants- with the cheaper version having half the VRam. Your tests show that the 2 GB Vram version would still be usable in almost all of those games. I guess it's a good thing they stopped doing that? Though Nvidia still seems to think adequate Vram is only for the top cards.
🙂 the lower Vram cards are only still viable when you pair it with a modern platform, because then the card can borrow the platforms cpu board and system ram to lean on, obviously most people wouldnt do that in real life, this is more of a benchmark test not a real world application. Most people that would buy this card would use it as a backup card or they are pairing it with an older computer that just needs something cheap to play some indie video games, in an older computer the card is going to perform alot more reduced.
For future low-end tests for RE4 Remake, in the graphics settings, 20:48 Make sure the texture quality is set to Low instead of Medium and turn on Shader Cache, it can drastically improve FPS in certain areas of the game or most areas of the game
I had the 7770 a couple of years ago. I remember that Dishonored was a brand-new game back then and it ran pretty well. I also remember playing Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and I loved that game. Overall, I had some great times with that GPU
I still have two of XFX Ghost Edition 7770's around. One is shorter version like this one, and one has a bigger heatsink. I might dig them out and check performance today 😁
Gpu like this designed for people who already own a potato pc ,low end gpu is stupid for new pc built from scracth, unless you need it for tonf of monitor which is very hard to setup compared to a huge tv
Just a quick tip for the Apex Legends part of benchmarking the Devs added a Bot Royal mode (basically an easy mode to test gameplay, team work etc.) so it’s free of players and just filled with bots

@@maxon1861 😊 yes its pretty cool, having this knowledge if your building a modern gaming pc right now but you dont have enough for a new expensive video card, just build the computer and buy one of these very affordable old video cards to get your gaming pc up and running, and play on super low setting in the meantime. Later on you can buy a new super good card and you can keep this as an emergency backup or for troubleshooting. I have a few of these cause they are fun to play with and their cheap enough that you can make a little collection. You be surprised how many decent old cards are available now below 50 bucks. I noticed that most GTX 970s are only 40 now. And thats still a pretty good card for low spec video games. Im testing one out this week. 🐢
@@jhydo1236 🙂 sure for a video game to function you take everything into consideration, the game engine, the directx version, the drivers, the operating system, the cpu, the motherboard, the type of system ram and speed and the capacity of the system ram, theres probably several more factors as well. So in this case your running the tiny card in a best case modern computer senario. You wouldnt see the card perform like this with older computers with less of everything, as you go further back with pc platforms into the retro space the video card will scale back as well. And another example is the 1gb of vram on the card, when the game sees that the vram is too low it will try to borrow some of the computers system ram to help the card run better. The better the cpu the better the motherboard the better the ram The Better the video card can borrow and communicate with what it lacks. Hope that helps Friend.

It is interesting how confusing labeling settings can be when you know what setting is actually doing. Apex streaming budget implies that lowest setting disables texture streaming, which takes much more VRAM than having it on. Then again, considering texture do no swap at all in this video, it might even be disabled, it is not like devs do not misuse engine features all the time...
i have a radeon 360 laying around that has a 2gb buffer on it and they go for $25-40 i mean if you want to do esports titles you can't really complain.

Hey Kryzzp, I have a question, I have a ASUS ROG Strix GTX 1080 with an Intel Core i5 4460 and I only get 40 FPS in GTA 5 at 1080p lowest settings. I don't want to change my motherboard so would an i7 4790K overclocked to 4.5Ghz bottleneck my 1080?

With these low power gpus don't use modern upscaling algorithms like fsr 2, the frametime cost of upscaling the image itself neglects the benefits of a lower resolution

@@SIPEROTH I have one. Far Cry 6 is too much for it, but it can handle Hitman 3's Dartmoor benchmark at 1080p Lowest with ~30 fps.

HD 7790 was my dream card when I had HD 6670.
hopefully I upgraded 6670 to 750ti in 2015, but still I want to get 7790 for windows XP machine 😂

To fix fortnite issues, lower resolution scale to something like 75 or 50, decrease all the settings to the lowest, and most importantly cap the fps

Hey Kryzzp, I have a question, I have a ASUS ROG Strix GTX 1080 with an Intel Core i5 4460 and I only get 40 FPS in GTA 5 at 1080p lowest settings. I don't want to change my motherboard so would an i7 4790K overclocked to 4.5Ghz bottleneck my 1080?
