- Lt. Gen. Paul E. Funk II was promoted to the rank of general by the Chief of Staff of the Army, Gen. Mark A. Milley in a small ceremony at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va., June 21, 2019. Following his promotion Gen. Funk assumed command of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command.
I have no reason to watch this, but it is great to have the opportunity to join the celebration (albeit a little late). I agree with General Milley that you must have character. I wish it was that easy!!! It's rare (in one package) to have character, intelligence, wisdom, charisma, eloquence, teacher and student, humble yet stern, perseverance, bravery, etc.

I remember when he was the BDE CMR along with Biggie Smalls. He was with 1ABCT, Fort Hood Texas. He is a great leader that took us to Iraq and back. Congratulations.
