    Hi Dan & Tara… stuck at home recovering from a bout of Covid and stumbled upon your GDT videos. Wow. Amazing! What an inspiration (and machines!) you two are, and you captured the majesty, beauty and challenge of the GDT and of The Divide as well. Thank you for making the video series and congratulations on your accomplishment (and Tara for your solo, watched that too this week! Well done!) Can’t wait to see / hear your what next adventures bring!

      Thanks! T has been on the GDT again this summer and we're working on some new videos for her hike. It's a big job getting them up, but should have them starting in a week or two.

    What an adventure! A sincere thank you for showing us what words cannot begin to describe. Outstanding, truly.
    Loved the guest appearance and all the symbolism in this episode. Now we can all go back and binge watch the videos in sequence - a long 5 months condensed into a short ~90 minutes. What a time to be alive, huh?

      Glad you enjoyed it! It was a super trip. Thanks for watching!
      I'm going to put all the episodes together into a single longer video over the coming weeks. Mostly I'll just fix some editing in Chapter One (when I was new to this) and add maps between each chapter so it's clearer where we are and what we are hiking. So nothing too exciting. I've got a couple neat shorter trips planned for the next few months, but it might be a while before I can make a series again.

    Really enjoyed watching your epic journey. Such amazing views and thank you for sharing your journey with us. I would love to do this one day and experience the wilderness in ways that not many people have. You both inspire me! Great job on the videos as well....and hope you didn't get hyperthermia after the swim at the finish. That looked so cold!

    Really awesome. There are so many places in the world that still require just getting out there to experience them. Congrats on making it happen, and thanks for sharing it!

    Just binge-watched chapters 6 thru 9, as I had forgotten to subscribe. Kinda regretting now that I watched, as it's just made it even harder to get through these next few months until hiking season. Thanks for this excellent work. Looking forward to doing at least one segment this summer.

      Glad you enjoyed the episodes Jim! You'll have to make some films or write up some trip reports from your travels this summer, as I've got a job now so long trips will have to be hiked vicariously for now.
      I think you'd really like the final 180 miles of the GDT (Sections F & G). A bit rough going but seriously wild and grand.

    Watching some of these old videos back, these are great! For a longer trip like this, how do you balance being lightweight and also having appropriate footwear for snowy conditions? Were you wearing boots? Or were those regular waterproof hiking shoes? Just curious to hear how you balance weight with functionality in more intense climates.
    Love the puffy pants 😂

    • @durstongear
      @durstongear  Місяць тому

      Thanks! We normally just use hiking shoes and then add small snowshoes in snowy conditions like this, but if it is quite cold we will add waterproof socks, and if it is really cold we would swap the trail runners for boots.

    Blessings!
    p.s. what the heck was that log at 5:14? Was it still smoldering from the fires?

      @durstongear  5 років тому +2

      Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. We'll remember this trip forever. T is thinking about hiking again this coming summer (but not a yo-yo).
      Yes that log was still on fire 1.5 months after the fire.

    Thanks for sharing! I came across the GDT earlier this year, thought I'd watch 5 mins of UA-cam before turning in tonight and sat through all nine episodes... Inspiring stuff! What next for your adventures?

    • @durstongear
      @durstongear  6 років тому

      Thanks! Glad to hear it's not just me that gets lured in for all 9 episodes :)
      We're not sure what's next, but we're always dreaming. I'd like to do more in the northern Rockies, Yukon and maybe the CDT some day.
      I guess I am doing the Bob Marshall Wilderness Open in a few weeks. That'll be ~200km in ~3 days, so it'll be an intense trip. bedrockandparadox.com/bob-marshall-wilderness-open/

    love your videos! i'm curious what do you do to stay in shape other than probably hike? one day i hope to visit up there and it'd be awesome to do the GDT!

    • @durstongear
      @durstongear  5 років тому

      Not much - it's hard to get too excited about exercise if it's not awesome. I mostly try to do a lot of active things that I'm excited about. Mostly biking, rock climbing and hiking.

    How did you guys mail your resupply boxes? Did you bring them into Canada and mail them or hike in and set them up after starting your hike? Loved the series looks like you guys had an epic journey!

    • @durstongear
      @durstongear  5 років тому

      We live in Canada so it was a bit easier, but basically we pre-packed 'em and mailed them out to the resupply list on the GDTA website.

    I can't explain my jealousy... haha. Great music! Bo Jarpehag right?

    • @durstongear
      @durstongear  6 років тому

      Thanks! The music is actually an instrumental version of this song: ua-cam.com/video/xA4zOAtPeJ0/v-deo.html
      I used it for the "teaser", which ended up becoming the intro to all the videos, and then my wife suggested I use the full song for the final episode to bring it full circle.

    Awesome adventure! Was curious what song you have been using throughout each episode?

    • @durstongear
      @durstongear  6 років тому

      Thanks Alex! The intro song in each episode, which becomes the full song for the final episode, is an instrumental version of Be Enthroned by Bethel: ua-cam.com/video/98cNpM-yh-I/v-deo.html

    Why you dont use x mid tent?,

    • @durstongear
      @durstongear  3 роки тому +1

      I thought of the idea for the X-Mid part way through this hike (in Chapter 4, but it's not mentioned). I started work on actually making it happen during the break before final leg of the hike, but it was still and idea on paper at this point. We wouldn't have the first prototype until about 4 months later.
