I had one of these as a kid. Got it for my birthday, but never really liked it. I had about 3 games for it. Games were hard to find even back then. Only one store in our city carried games, I remember bugging my parents to drive us since it was a few miles away. Within about a year the store stopped carrying the console and games. Eventually saved my money and got an second hand Atari and that got constant play.

Nice collection! Cat Trax was actually ported to the Atari VCS (along with Funky Fish and Pleiades), but never saw a release back in the days until someone salvaged them and put them for sale on AtariAge.

Never owned or played this one and I don't remember it being promoted back in the day. Great video looking forward to the next one.

Great collection! This was really cool to see. Though seeing it really explains how the video game market crashed in 93. With atari 2600 having all those 3rd party "gems" and then a new console that looks worse then the 2600 no wonder the consumer interest dwindled.

I had this one as a kid but when i got my Coleco Vision and Intellivision i kinda let that one go.
I will do my best to educate you Rob on why we call football soccer. Back in England when Football was starting to be THE game to play outside of the classic Cricket game.
English Children would go to school to play football. Much like kids do today. As you might know, I won't assume. PTA is an association, it stands for Parent Teachers Association.
Well, in England they also had an Association, A football Association. The kids, like all kids do didn't like certain things probably rules and the enforcement of them or some of the adults in
the association so, they created the word Soccer or Association Footballers. This is what i have come to know is the truth about why. Now, from my estimation our football was becoming more popular than soccer was and so we named it football and we needed a name for the other game of football and some English person probably said well we called it soccer when i was a child, you could use that. I just realized that you probably didn't actually care about this but hey at least i could be helpful if not annoying you Rob I am sorry dude..
Just an FYI I did some digging and the Processor a Signetics 2650 micro processor was used in this console but it was also used in some Arcade games and you mention Atari well, Ironically or maybe strangely this same processor was used in one of their games too. This is the list of Arcade games that used it. Atari Quiz Show, Meadows Games 3D Bowling, Meadows Games Gypsy Juggler, and Cinematronics Embargo.

I have never heard of this thing. Thanks for sharing Rob. I will have to see if there's an emulator and try out some of the games for myself. :)

I just got a Bandai Arcadia. Do you happen to know if the Arcadia 2001 is region free?

I have heard of Arcadia before not because of Atari, but because we have a region here with that name. Famous among other reasons for being the birthplace of the god Pan.
I kind of get the positive thing about having the instructions on the back of the box, it helps to understand the gameplay...as long as you have an idea what the game LOOKS LIKE! FFS what were they thinking?
To add insult to the injury, they also have the instructions in a manual and on the back of the cartridge! I mean...ffs!
The games from the footage you show look really good for home console of the early 80s.

There are about 30 variants of this thing. Seriously. 30. Almost as many games as it has.

We had one my folks couldn't afford an Atari & this was in the bargain bend so there we go. They was gonna release Pacman Space Invaders Etc then Atari sued them they was gonna promote this as the Atari Killer but Atari sued Emerson. So they released clones of the game but the time this console arrived was too late to make a splash because Coleco Vision & Atari 5200 had arrived that had much better graphics & game play and better library so it was doomed stayed in the game for only two years before calling it quits. Atari sued everybody eventually they sued Nintendo & then Nintendo once sued Atari. We didn't know any difference or any of that stuff we was glad to have a video game system!

Why is American football called football!? Why do we call it soccer!? (In the USA)
Well here is why i think it is, (and its probably correct, well 99%, hey Im doing this for free!).
Waaay back in the day in Europe, like pre-America days 1500/1600s. There were games you played with a ball "on foot". They were all "football games" with different rules. Basically soccer (football), rugby, and American football all came from these older games.
People really make American Football seem different from Rugby or even Soccer, but remember that until 1906, American football didn't have passing in it. There wasn't a QB. So it was all running and kicking, much more similar to the other two, (which also makes more sense for the name right? Running on foot and kicking).
So now its evolved with passing and such so the name seems odd. But from what I also gather, when Europeans get mad at us Americans for calling "footy" Soccer -- that's not our fault - its theirs, blame the English! See when football was invented there, and split into the two separate sports, Rugby Football and Association Football (formalized groups with the same rule sets so you could play other towns etc), they both still called themselves "football". How confusing! So they started calling themselves "ruggers" and "soccer" after Rugby Football and Associated Football.
When those English and Irish came to the USA in the late 1800's, they brought with them soccer and then our football is what basically came from Rugby. So football and soccer to differentiate them.
So it was all Football. THEY invented the name soccer since they had 2 different ones. Soccer dominated in popularity so took the name as the default "football" world wide. But really... Americans are kind of correct to call them all different names. Its the same "soccer" so we didn't change the name, but we wouldn't call what we play "ruggers" or rugby because its a different game. Id almost say we are the only ones doing it right - rugby and soccer are their own things - and we carried on with this bastard "football" game ha-ha
