Kia Optima 2012 hybrid defect

Combustion engine will not turn off when there is no demand and the battery is fully charged. Kia insists this is normal operation and will not fix it or explain why the engine is running.

The vehicle will not go into Electric Vehicle mode. This means, that while the car is supposed to be a "hybrid" it only gets 30mpg, just like a standard Optima because the combustion engine is running all the time. It should cycle the combustion engine on and off to conserve fuel based on a number of inputs including engine load, battery charge, temperature, etc.
Kia still refuses to fix the problem, so I am getting 30 mpg on a "hybrid" and 34 mpg on my 2008 non-hybrid.

I have exactly the same car. Mine doesn't do that bro. For example, it always turns off the gas engine when I'm driving in a parking lot or downhill.

Noticed that your hybrid battery is overheated. The manual says that the cabin cools the battery. There are two vents behind the rear seats (one on each side) that have to be cleaned periodically. If not the system will protect itself by keeping it in gas mode. Look at right side of the left gauge cluster where your battery icon is signaling that thing are too hot. I run my AC most of the time but only saw it go that once when it the cabin to 82 to warm things up. Hope that helps.

@@vismtechnologies1997 that guage is the battery charge level (high and low) not hot and whatever you thought the L would be. When it gets to L, that means you have a bad battery.

What problem? The two energy sources are made to work together to maintain acceleration.

you have all the sensors full. Gasoline, battery and hybrid battery. Maybe this problem are sensors or fuses ??

Hy buddy im living Dubai🇦🇪 i have also optima 2013 hybrid same like above showing in my car driving under verry hot whether and parking long time in very hot whether, but not like this completely full mine was before H level.. but in normal whether it was normally working as like 80% charged it will go to the EV mode any way my opinion is reduce driver the car most sunny day and when driving the car keep a/c on for cool the cabin temperature good🙏👍
