    Oh Jan, I think you are about to change my life! I ordered this kit from you along with quite a few other items and I am so excited! I recently started making jewelry, and I enjoy the art a lot. However, I would really like to take it to the next level and make more costume jewelry. I will prefer to make pieces that don't look too crafty. The type of jewelry you make in these videos are exactly what I want to do, and the way you explain and demonstrate the process is so clear and easy. I can't wait to rave about all the cool items I got off of your website, because they will be here in just a couple days! I wish much success for you and your business!

    Very informative video! I have been watching your videos for a while now but haven’t taken the leap into soldering yet. I think I’m finally ready to try. I am looking to make a headpiece made of crystals soldered onto a 14 gauge wire. What would be the best type of wire to use? And which method holds up the best, heat gun or torch? I know that the gun uses a lower temp solder, and the torched piece would get discolored which leads me to my last question (I’m sorry for all the questions 😅) where do you send your torched pieces to get plated and around how much does that usually cost? Thank you so much. I think it would be great if you did a q&a video I’m sure a lot a people ask the same questions.

      If I were going to use wire in a head piece I would probably look for plated copper or plated brass. Depending on what look I was going for I might use a flat sheet of metal. I don't think one method particularly holds up better than the other. Working with raw metal and having it plated really just gives you more options. You can add in copper pieces, brass pieces and even steel pieces which opens up a whole other level of creativity. Honestly I do not have a plater that I would recommend for finished pieces. We have a lot of items barrel plated which generally works out pretty well. However, I have tried a number of platers for finished pieces and have been unhappy because they lost pieces or the plating was bad or uneven. Lately I have only been doing pre-plated pieces. However, I have heard good things about Red Sky in New Mexico. I plan on giving them a try when I have enough pieces together that I want plated. I have no idea what their pricing is like.

      Jan's Jewelry Supplies thank you so much for replying! I’m going to give one of your kits a try before venturing into other things I want to make 😊

    Hi, does this heat gun also melt the thick/fat solder wire?
    When the colour of the back is changed after soldering, how and what to do to get it clean?!! Is it using pickle?

    • @Jansjewels
      @Jansjewels  10 місяців тому

      The size of the solder wire does not matter. It is the melting point that is important. it needs to be 300* to 350* for the heat gun to melt. If your metal is turning colors using the heat gun you are applying to much heat. The solder wire you are using could have too high of a melting point to melt the wire quickly.

      Sorry, no. We deal with mostly vintage stock. Much of our stock would be sold out before we could print a catalog. You can view all items at jansjewels.com.
