This video shows how to solder together silver plated stone settings and rhinestone chain using low temperature solder and a heat gun to make large scarab earrings.

AWESOME!!!!
Oh wow... I didn’t even know you could use a heat gun
Hi Kayla. Thank you for your comment. Keep in mind that to use a heat gun requires using the 300 degree prefluxed solder.
So beautiful! I am liking gold right now. Will the heat gun work with brass settings? is there a solder wire to match?
Yes, the heat gun and 300 degree prefluxed solder will work well with the brass settings. Using the heat gun will mitigate any discoloration of the brass settings from the heat. However there is no low temperature brass colored solder and your piece will show the silver solder. The piece will need to be gold plated to produce a finished piece or in a pinch (if you are not heavy handed with the solder) you can go in and paint the solder wire to match the brass settings.
Thank you! Do you have a video on gold plating, or what paint would you recommend?
No, sorry. I do not have a video on gold plating. We send all of our pieces out to be plated. If I do a piece in brass and don't want to plate it I will go in with tester's paint and color the small areas of solder.
Does the heat gun works the same as a solder?
If you are referring to a soldering iron, no they don't work the same. A soldering iron does not heat up enough of the metal to bridge the pieces with the solder. I know a few people that do use a soldering Iron but, I personally think it is very difficult. With a soldering iron you really have to heat the solder instead of heating the metal and letting the solder melt from the heat of the metal.
