    I witnessed Uncle Sam out there on the kite foil before he got the larger pink foil , good job on learning that Uncle Sam. I noticed on the kite foil when he was learning the Leading Edge was way too short definitely not enough lift for bigger guys, but that new foil is much better

    Really informative thanks, has any one tried making a foil with a thruster style set up!? Three masts? More stability and less forces on the board, just curious as I'd like to make one...

    • @blueplanetsurf

      Hi David, that's an interesting idea. There is a lot of R&D going on and I think you should test your idea. To see what other people are working on, check out these StandupZone forum threads:

      Thanks, that forum is pretty good, I don't know whether the current phase of a single mast has come from kiting. Gonna give it a go with three masts and see whether it works, have only just shaped the foil so far...

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  7 років тому +1

      Most of the Foils used today are based on the original Air Chair foil design and are really just variations and refinements of that single mast with a larger front wing, fuselage and smaller stabilizer wing in the back. This setup seems to work well but I'm sure there is still a lot of room for improvement and innovation.

    Does sound like waves or current is needed to reach that critical lifting speed. Looks really awesome!

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  7 років тому

      Yes, you need some push to get it to foil, it's impossible to paddle fast enough to foil without a wave.

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  7 років тому

      +Eelke Aptroot yes, just paddle power is not enough, you need some push to get foiling

    Hi guys,thanks for the video.
    Is a 9'2" too big for sup surf foiling?
    I have a foilmount on the way and I'd like to my Sup.
    Also how far from the back should I mount the mast.
    Thanks in advance.

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  5 років тому

      Hi Tony, a 9’2 is fine to learn on though you will probably want a shorter board as you progress as a shorter board makes flying the foil easier. We have measurements for the foil mount posted at the bottom of this page: www.blueplanetsurf.com/foil-strongbox.html
      Aloha🤙🏼

      So the recommended measurements for my length board fall at 20" to 28",I have the Foilmount carbon mount,should I place the mount at 20" from the back going forward, reason I ask this is because I only get one chance at sticking it in place🙂
      Thanks for your reply in advance.

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  5 років тому +1

      @@tonythetiger256 it's not that big a deal, you just have to have your back foot over the mast. Just put it at 24" and you will be fine.

    Hi guys, I live in Shippies Ahipara, New Zealand. Im the only one up here with a go foil Kai and so you guys are great source of info for me thanks... I've had 3 days on the go Foil Sup, I fitted the tuttle box to a 8'6" NSP wave board 105 ltrs and I weigh about 90 kg's. I kitefoil and SUP Wave riding and I've had a couple of 4-5 second glides so far on the foil in slow crumbly shoulder height waves. I'm loving the challenge of a new sport , super stoked that you have shared the knowledge you have gained. I have a question .... When I'm about to catch a wave I hear a high pitch sound coming from the foil's vibration is this common or have I fitted the mast incorrectly. The tutle box was fitted by Ding king NZ and they did a great job. I'm just wondering if that sound is normal.....
    Would you recommend the foot straps to get that initial lift from pulling up with your feet by pumping ....
    If we get a calm day I'll get the boat out and tow just to get familiar with the foil and how it rides and foot position and balance ...
    thanks again really enjoyed your post

      Hi Rucky, good to hear you are getting into it and that our videos are helpful. The humming is normal on the Go Foils unfortunately, from what I hear the culprit is the rear wing and most likely the flat end piece. I guess you can change the shape by sanding it to eliminate the humming sound. It has not bothered me enough to take action. In this video you can hear the foil humming: ua-cam.com/video/5QwH3XosP7I/v-deo.html

    Thanks! So there appears to be conflict between the two. One says bank (tilt) the board and follow it and the other says pivot the board/mast to turn. Which is it. Or both? Thx!

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  6 років тому

      All turns will have a carving and pivoting component, generally speaking at lower speeds the turns have more pivoting and at higher speeds more carving. It also depends on the equipment- board length and the type of foil used, I hope that makes sense, Aloha!

    Interesting how they talk about flying a foil without using the word lift.

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  7 років тому

      It feels like you are flying, thats why we use that word a lot.

    • @gs-nt6nf
      @gs-nt6nf 7 років тому

      Yes it is flying so just wondering why more aeronautical technology is not used. For example the foil should have a rudder and a trim tab on the stabilizer. Maybe controlled by the back foot. Then it would not be like trying to turn a flying wing which has no rudder.

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  7 років тому +2

      I think that idea has merit and you should try to build and test one, there are some good forum discussions on the standup zone about foil design and different concepts:
      www.standupzone.com/forum/index.php/board,88.0.html
      If you want to compare these to flying, these foils are like a hang glider that is intuitively controlled by shifting/ trimming body weight vs. something like foiling sailboats that are more like a glider plane with manual controls and rudders.
