Great video! I like what Olivia said about being in a paddling position and transferring to a surfing position, that has helped me have longer practice sessions and get better with my balance!
Thank you for this video, this is very interesting and Olivia is for sure one of the most inspiring rider in the sup foiling community. I'm now an intermediate rider, I have done few 10 kms run and I think that maybe I learned the wrong way😅. Or at least not the best way. I learned how to paddle when I started sup foiling. Firstly on flat water and then on the bumps. It was actually a lot harder in the bumps for me! It took me 3 sessions to get up on the PNG 1310 and 6 months to master light conditions with the same foil. And then 6 months again to master the ART 1099 in more "real" downwind conditions. Also, for me it is impossible to stand up with the feet in the "race paddling" position. I do a lot a flat water pumping, so I rest few minutes after each pumping time paddling with the board on the water. I like to paddle with the other hand in order to rest better. It is easier for me to switch my feet than riding in the "race paddling" position. I assume this is a wrong habit but it suits well to me and I'm lazy learning to balance in the race position.
Another great video, thanks for sharing. Quick question: I found insightful the tip of placing the mast more to the back so we can allow the board to gain more speed before taking off, and avoid stalling; my question is: is there a gain of doing the opposite, meaning positioning it further forward? More control?
Hi Olivia, Damien, thank you very much for your clinic and vidéo. I come from a background of kite surfing (waves) and stand-up paddleboarding (standard, not foiling). As I plan to switch to foiling this autumn, I have a question regarding the length of the paddle. Currently, I use paddles that are +15 cm (inflatable) and +10 cm (otherwise), but my paddles are full carbon and fixed size. I would like to know if I can reuse my paddles and what the guidelines are for paddle length in foiling.
Great video Gwen, love it that is in Europe/Italy. Great questions, I will be travelling to Lake Garda this year again as well for wingfoiling. Two questions: 1. is more organized regarding foiling (like foilweek) at lake garda begin of August? 2. If you have to rate wingfoiling from scale 1-10 on fun, excitement, satisfaction and what about DW supfoiling what would the rate be?
Will try your tip of using a more normal sup stance until some forward speed is generated be fore changing to surf stance. Would you use axis 1400 art pro or Takuma 1900 lower aspect for first tries
great video! what about the paddle size? is a bigger paddle blade helpfull for a fast acceleration or is a smaller blade helpfull with a higher cadence?
Smaller blade with higher cadence is better, if you are very strong, a bigger blade can work well too, but for smaller riders a smaller blade is better.
Nice introduction to SUPF. One ingredient missing was the actual stroke needed for SUPF "The Reverse J". Perhaps you could do a short video outlining this Stroke :)
These two are amazing athletes and this seems like an accurate representation of learning SUP foiling (only .00001% of the population will even be capable). The right equipment will make all the difference as will the right location. Hood river, OR. is NOT the right location to learn this sport, it is simply too crowded, there is no more parking here or room in the spots most conducive to learning. Almost anywhere else on earth would be a better choice.
Great video, those people unintentionally walking through the video then realizing halfway through was a hilarious bonus to the clip lol

Thank you Gwen and Olivia

Thank you both for the video! By the way, is there a minimum speed we have to achieve before being able to take off?

Awesome as always! Curious what Olivia is talking about with the crazy Swiss Guys. Were they dockstarting or something else?

Thank you and to Olivia! What kind of inflatable board to start with?
Inflatable boards are sticky to the water and not as stiff. So not as ideal as rigid DW boards

Do a class in Hood River, Oregon. We watched two downwinders the other day, very cool

Very nice one, thanks.
what foil size and foil aspect ratio is recommended to start with?
What foil brand do you ride now?
@@DamienLeroyUA-cam I wing foil only. neil pryde swift 1200 cm2 ( strong wind) and Cabrinha fusion 1950cm2 ( light wind)
The cabrinha 1300 h series or 1650 x series mk2 would be good to start
@@DamienLeroyUA-cam thank you
Hahaha looks so easy or u can just wait forever. Thanks for the vid
Come to California!!!! Please!!!
amazing thanks 🔥
I would do a camp in California!
Half way in the video i realized it was in english, i thought it was french :D
Start paddling before standing up. The foil starts stabilizing the board.
👍🍺🏄🏼
