31 years ago when I was 17 I met Ron Allen outside a skatepark in Columbus, Ohio. Me and a few buddies randomly went out of town for a week, and while we were crashing in Columbus heard there there was a demo going on at a local park. By the time we made it there the demo was over, but the park was so intimidating to me I opted to skate in the parking lot, trying to ollie over a little baby dirt gap into the adjoining lot. At one point Ron Allen came out of a side door, I think he was having a smoke. He could have minded his own business and ignored me, but instead he came over and introduced himself and asked if I liked the demo. I told him I missed it, and he was all that's too bad man, it was a lot of fun. He then watched me trying to ollie over this little gap, and was super encouraging saying stuff like you got this dude, don't give up bro! I don't remember if I made the trick or not, or exactly what Ron Allen said, but I'll always remember how positive he was and how he made me feel good about myself.

i went to a LIFE demo back in 1990 or 1991 ...Sheffey stayed on the phone with his old lady the entire time , Donger skated a bit , but Ron Allen skated his ass off and took time to talk to all of the kids and was super cool to all of us...hes the real deal as a person...the shop/park owner was bitching at some of the kids for talking to him outside in the parking lot without paying ...Ron straight up lit that old man's us up , lecturing him about these kids pay your bills and dont have to pay to talk to me outside the shop...Ron was so emotional going off on the old dude that he literally started crying himself while going off on the old dude ....i was already a huge fan of Ron's , but knowing hes legit as a human made him even cooler

Ron was the first pro I met at a demo at six flags, I was probably 13. My friend was got to skate in the demo and Ron just hyped us all up. Every time I saw him at Berkeley park or around the Bay he always remembered meeting us then and commented on how much me and my friends were growing up etc. Always hyped, always so positive and encouraging. Still ripping and unabashedly himself. Thanks Ron!

Back in the late 80's I was a young skater living in the burbs of North London, UK. Some of my skate crew went out skating mid week and who did they come across in our random part of North London suburbs.... none other than this man Ron Allen.
This was the early H-Street era they took him skating around our local area and ended up at South Bank and they came back the next day to tell the tale that I missed out on. The big one was "ahh man Ron ollied a McDonalds trash bin" in our local town centre. I was so blown away and gutted that I unbelievably missed this experience especially as Ron stay literally half a mile from my house at some little random hotel in my part of North London.
Had to share this story and big up Ron Allen still skating at 61!!!
I didn't know how connected he was to Sheffey who I also met around the Life era at a skatepark in Leigh on Sea Essex.
    Good times man good times.....
CMOON PUT LOTION ON YA FEET RON!!!!!! lol

Could it have been in 90. I'm up near Liverpool, and one day in 90 I opened the local paper to see pic of Ron boardsliding back of a bench minutes from my local skate shop and my house. I phoned friends, on landlines obviously, and they didn't know what happened. Apparently the shop which was a windsurf shop that had plenty of skate stuff, had persuaded the distributors to send H Street team to my area, but it was quite short notice, and they either just didn't inform local skaters or didn't have time. It was pre mobile phone and they probably didn't have skaters numbers. The shop owner son was in my class at school but didn't skate, but I feel he could have told us. I think we may have been in school when they turned up too. It was a complete f#@k up and we were fuming. Couldn't believe it.
I still have newspaper clipping of pic to remind me of what we missed. The shop didn't know where skate spots were also, so H Street team skated a bit of flatland with a crap bench that had arms, hence his boardslide on back of bench.

Hocus Pocus & Shackle ME Not are 2 of those videos that changed skateboarding. It had a lot to do with the riders and of course the tricks put down on these 2 classic skate vids... 1 more element that no one talks about the first 2 H -Street vids are the songs / bands chosen to be a part of the 2 projects. Those songs still hold up til this day....

Satori, Yellow Brand, and Creation demo’d our hometown park when I first began skateboarding. I wasn’t there for the demo but every day of middle school, at the park that I skated, the place was still plastered with their promo stuff. I ended up riding a Creation board finally around 2014 for nostalgic purposes and it was so rad. Satori’s were on my first set up ever too. I’m pretty sure Delatorre was there for that first demo.
Anyways, this episode is probably my favorite one. I’m 28 so I didn’t grow up on Ron Allen but you can help but be inspired by him.

"We were punk rock skate kids' ... Black Dress Theory - still one of the best tracks on a skate part! I still listen to that track, recorded direct off the video, lol, and as soon as it comes on and I hear it I just think of Ron and all I can see in my mind is his Shackle Me Not part. It's similar with Jeff's "Bird's Fly High" - I just see Danny Way's part as soon as it comes on, but I have a better recording of that and, as much as I LOVE Wonderful Broken Thing, it ain't Black Dress Theory - that just gives me goosebumps every time with that dirty bassline

This episode was really hit home for me ❤🙏 First off i was 8 or 9 when i saw Ron Allen blast the massive crosswalk ollie on Shackle Me Not we were in disbelief. I know there were pros starting to do 360 kickflips back then already but in my neighborhood of Los Angeles we just weren't able to comprehend that yet so how we rated each other was by who could ollie the most boards stacked up. I was able to ollie 4 boards in 4th grade and that was pretty unheard of back then. So when i saw Rons power ollies and the way H-street was changing the game from the nerdy Powell videos it was on!!! My first true skate clothing was an H-street hoodie. I ordered one in black and it took like six months to come and it came in a weird red color. I tried to return it but the customer service back then was non-existent. So i rocked that sweater proudly anyways and got made fun of at school by the rest of the Mexicans.
Second no one really understands this but i tell people growing up latino i really have to strain my brain to recall any racism from white folks but from my fellow latinos it was DAILY. It was pretty much who was darker, poorer, tougher, more mexican etc. And yes the cholos would beat you up for skating so you had to keep it on the downlow because skating was considered 'selling out.' It was hella tough to be a skater in the 80s in LA. I'm so glad Ron related to that being a challenge for a person of color..ignorance is ignorance smh

1:25:20 What you said here, Ron, is super cool and really thought provoking. If I may paraphrase - How you treat a person may be how they treat their kids one day. And the way you make them feel is how their kids are going to feel when their parents treat them that way. So it's like a domino effect - I think, just you communicating this concept has a ripple effect that positively effects the world. Helping people think twice before they speak to someone or make a decision about how to treat people.

Saw this Ron in a demo in West Virginia of all places.
Him and Sheffey, John Reeves I believe and Donger and a few others. They blew my mind as a young kid.
Sheffey ollied over and into this 3 1/2 for quarter pipe with ease. I remember it to this day.
We were lucky to have a good shop with a really cool owner.
The shop was Iguana sport gear in Huntington WV. Ron Patrick was the owner.
We were a tiny blip on the skate map. We did have a local that was pro for Alien Workshop.
