Have you seen the ban on Auroradon? They'll ban good Link-3 monsters as well now. I wouldn't be surprised if Selene got banned for making it even easier to link climb into Accesscode Talker (or other Link-4 boss monsters) due to the setup by Halq

Eh, some of those were actually correct examples. Meow Meow Mu was absolutely banned for the sins of the Adventure engine and did not need to be banned (but MBT is noted as a huge defender of the Adventure Engine, so that might be why). Verte was banned for the sins of FD, which the OCG originally correctly identified by banning FD (which completely fixed Vertre).
Verte should not come back without an errata. It is too easy to make with trash materials that can bring out a very powerful monster. Because of Verte, Konami would have to put limits to both Fusion Monsters and Fusion spells solely because of Verte. What Verte needs is a stricter summoning requirement before it can come back.
@@DarkKnight179 Verte is the problem card. You wanna know why it's "fixed" in the OCG? Because they banned several cards instead of banning just Verte. Eventually they're gonna make an Albaz fusion that's a negate and suddenly they'll be broken again

Both DPE and dragoon are ok if you need to use their fusion spell to summon them (or poly but poly is THE problem of the fusion mechanic), while verte can transform any 2 monster into a fusion monster, searching any fusion spell card ignoring the activation requirements.
(Edit 'cause i forgot) its cost is PAYING LIFE POINTS, there's literally no bad side of that card, even the fact that lock you out from special summoning can be ignored, because you are always doing it when you have finished your combo or when you have been interrupted, not to mention the fact that half of the good fusion spell cards already lock you from special summoning
On the one hand, the amount of tuners that have been banned for Halq’s sins is infamous, and the fact that Deskbot 001 wasn’t one of them is crazy, but I do love being able to summon Halq, Halq effect summon Phantom King Hydride (a 3 star tuner that can be treated as a non-tuner), and on my opponent’s turn sack Halq for Shooting Riser Dragon, and then Riser effect tune it and Hydride for Baronne on my opponent’s turn. Truly stupid fun but Halq 100% should have been banned ages ago.

@@NightmareEadin Hydride became one of my favorite cards because of dumb Halq combos like this. And because most of the synchro tuners in the game let you synchro summon on your opponent’s turn you can pull off some really silly interruptions.
Imo anywhere from some to most of the tuners that halq has gotten banned deserved a ban or at least a limit anyway like jet synchron its literally just a one card link 2.
I actually agree with samsara lotus over TBD on the grounds that TBD was a decent card in it's own right but not degenerate outside that interaction, whereas lotus is never going to be good outside of exactly that sort of degenerate loop so you lose very little by banning it whereas banning TBD is more likely to have collateral damage
Lotus could also do a extremely inconsistent FTK with Arcana Force 26: The World.
TBD killed 2 cards the other being amyriliths (or however you spell that card).
Lotus has needed an errata for like eight years. If you couldn't loop it it could be at 300 and no one would care
Except tbd got 2 cards banned for it, not happy with that, it's now being looped alongside snow, and while you could argue snow is the problem(she absolutely should go back to 0 don't get me wrong), bomber has shown that it's only ever a good card when you can create these silly loops with it's effect and I think those are not healthy interactions to keep around

Even after Gossip Shadow got banned, its biggest enabler in Phantom Knights, it's still abused via stuff like Numbers Eveil + Sales Ban, Six Samurai, CXyz Barian Hope, etc, they're never really meta relevant, but it's still a frustrating card better left banned
I can’t believe no one mentioned book of taiyou in the first ever tcg exclusive ban list. The problem was cyber jar and then the deck nearly won worlds because they went by the ocg list and that basically ended exclusive banlist ss for years.

A assault core reminded me of something. Back when Drytron was first released with benten at 3, some OCG builds were using union carrier to equip vanitys ruler with b buster drake just to make it immune to dark ruler no more and forbidden droplet. Imagine if buster drake got banned for that here in the tcg kinda like how destruction sword was banned because of union carrier

Nah that guy was spitting about drident and zeus was spitting. Zeus inherently makes any card or archetype that facilitates stacking multiple Xyz materials exponentially more one dimensional, boring, and extraordinarily frustrating to deal with. In a world where we had to content with a 3K quick play banish that nukes your entire field when you deal with it, I'm pretty sure we can handle a quick play pop on a nonexistent body that does nothing when outed. While drident is an inherently dangerous card when it comes to releasing any kind of beast warrior support, Zeus is the true reason no zoo strategy will ever again see the light of day in any capacity.
Drident bore the sins of not only Zeus but also Utopic Draco Future - there was a really easy combo that drident enabled in Zoo/TriBrigade that would allow you to make Draco Future as well the rest of the 1st turn set up - I would love it to be unbanned now but I can understand why they did it at the time.
Remeber when they thought banning Dragon Buster Destruction Sword instead of Union Carrier was a good idea? As a Buster Blader player I was so upset..

Storm is banned because popping your own backrow is still good. There may not be a meta relevant deck that wants that right now, but there certainly has been many times, and certainly will be again.
Duster is significantly better for the vast majority of decks, but storm is absolutely insane in the few decks that really break it. Duster has no such problem.

Sekka’s light is a really strange card for Konami to have limited/banned.
It is a draw 2 with a heavy restriction that you can only play copies of it in your deck instead of other spells/traps, but by limiting it the card loses all of its potential benefits and goes from an interesting gimmick card to a self imposed, one sided floodgate.
I think the issue with it is that it's graveyard has no restriction other than a hard OPT eff.

Counter-argument: If you're playing a bunch of floodgates, you've probably already built your deck to play around them anyway.
I'd like to add one personally. On the same banlist where they finally got rid of all of the dragon rulers, they also, for some goddamn reason, banned dragon ravine. So that really annoyed me as a dragunity enthusiast.
Another example of something getting banned, along side the problem card that made it OP would be Yata Garasu.
While it is the monster that was on the banlist the longest, it was always bad, even in its heyday.
The reason it got banned, was because of it was the finisher of the Chaos Emporer-Sangan/Black Forest interaction, an incredibly unreliable, high roll strategy, that only worked because CED wiped everything.

If you didn’t have a monster (because, say, all of them got answered) or you didn’t have a trap to out Yata (and remember this format had Duster, Heavy Storm, and all sorts of backrow removal because nothing was banned), one hit from Yata would end you. You don’t have an answer already? Too bad, you lose. Just draw the out next time. Yata was cancer and had to go.
United We Stand got limited because of gimmick decks that paired it with Scapegoat on a clear board (at a time where Raigeki, Mirror Force and Dark Hole were very good). The deck wasn't great, but I think they were scared of it for some reason.
Well originally you just summon any beater and then scapegoat and stick United on it and have a 4000+ beat stick. Couple with Mage power and your very close to an OTK.

Divine Wind of Mist Valley got limited to 1 in Jan 2014 and is still on the list for the crime of being part of a Blaze Fenix FTK that I'm certain never actually did anything. Said FTK came back when Norden released.
It's still at 1 because of Birdman and Harpie Dancer. None Of Them Are Hard Once Per Turn.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned brotherhood of the firefist spirit who was limited shortly after the release of brotherhood of the firefist rooster, it was limited on the famous September 2013 list which brought an end to dragon ruler spell book format so it wasn't like firefist had won many events.
Firefist might be the unluckiest archtype of all time.
Blazar comes out, deck is supposed to match up against mermails, but mermails get Abyssteus as an exclusive, pushing them ahead, then Tachyon galaxy murders them, then the ban list on sept 2013, then rulers dominate until primal origin, which they finally are able to be a t2-t3 deck/engine in HAT format until fucking duelist alliance nukes them from orbit.
FYI you can't bring bulb back even if halq goes to 0. If you hit it off ishizu tear it's a free nat beast.

@@Kris_King It’s still legal in the OCG and doesn’t see play there because powercreep, and topped exactly once since Corridor got released (in terms of the corridor abuse deck, not Pure Thunder, as that’s topped multiple times before), I think it’s fine.

United We Stand and Mage Power (birds of a feather) both spent extensive time on the list because they both enabled surprise OTKs...which in the 2003-2006 era of the game were actually a much bigger deal because of the general power of backrow vs monsters (with very few exceptions). United being actually temporarily forbidden might have been a bit much, but the limited status was definitely warranted for at least some of its time. I actually did extensive theorycrafting with some friends back in 2004-2005, and with those two equips unlimited, it actually makes for a really stupid combo/control strategy involving Mataza, or, barring that, even Hayabusa Knight. Having double-attacking, giant, level 3 monsters in a format where Level Limit Area B and Gravity Bind are legitimately powerful just isn't okay...especially with the other spell/traps in the format (Trunade especially). If you can get the game to be slow with one of your battle control cards and control even just one set monster, Trunade the board, then normal summon Mataza and equip it with one United and one Mage Power, that is enough to hit for 7800 direct...if you just set the board controller you already had, that raises the damage to 8800 direct...but that same scenario with *only* united we stand and two total monsters is 5800 damage...which is going to kill opponents 90% of the time. Just look at how ridiculous Cyber Stein + Cyber Twin was when it was around to get an idea. The GOAT and pre-GOAT formats are a lot more intricate and delicate than people give credit for.

Sekka's light is fun in weathery because they place spells/traps from deck/gy and their backrow applies their effects passively so you can still use some of your cards under the restriction.

Tiger at 1 does literally nothing. Why not bring it back to 3. If its suddenly good (which it wouldnt be), they can always just put it back at 1.
@@Jaddas Meow absolutely needed to be put at 1, but it got put to 0 for the sins of the Adventure engine. Being able to use Dracoback to chain-block your combo starter was the cherry on top of the handtrap protection already provided by Gryphon Rider. Master Duel players are currently experiencing this horror the hard way.
The Adventure engine was a mistake, and the latest OCG banlist is a confession of this.

Meow to 0 was because of adventure and dpe, but even with the adventure engine prankkids was not good enough to explain such a hard hit. id say even with adventure it wasnt good enough for a hit period.
The deck was already not doing very well in that meta and losing dpe was such a huge hit for them.
Magicians souls became a lot worse, youd play much worse into handtraps, your biggest powerplay against controlldecks is gone, and so on.
Without dpe, brave prankkids was absolutly unable to reach tier 1 status. Not in a format with swordsoul, despia and punk. Not to mention how hard it would lose to spright and tear.
I played prankkids a lot. Its still my favorite deck and trust me. It was not a needed hit and evem if it was needed, it was definitly not the correct one.
I was saying exactly that about Ulti Kanhawk for years, limiting it did nothing but make us deathly afraid of Warning/Judgment and make elder+penguine weaker. the loop was still fine, and the deck still stomped shaddoll (the real meta deck it countered, its nekroz game wasn't quite as clean) right up until Kozmo came out and everyone started siding Iron wall

I'm just tired of cards being made generic. Halq should have been Crystron locked, Auroradon should have been MPB locked, Verte predaplant locked. Wow, recurring theme? Who would have guessed.
You also need some good generic stuff to help the less favored archetypes and the pile decks but I agree that making the most ban worthy cards generic is a crime

Having A Hero Lives at 1 and then at 2 before it got unlimited, meanwhile Dragon Link having Quick Launch, a way better AHL, and every other main deck piece such as Tracer at 3 WAS THE STUPIDEST FUCKING THING EVER.
As a Lunalight player, I fully encourage roving Tiger from the banlist.
As a reasonable Yu-Gi-Oh player, it being at one is completely valid, and with the metagame these days could possibly go to 2.

I wouldn't call Independent Nightingale a broken card by any means though. When made the intended way, it's a 2000-3000 ATK Towers with a burn effect. The effect only becomes broken when you can completely bypass any setup necessary to raise the level, and instead copy the effect with a high level monster.

@@lamiaprincess6371 Here is the problem. Neither of them were good in a vacuum. SKSV was decent, sure, but only if Elec is legal like in MD. It is by all means Independent Nightingale's fault. Outside of this FTK, no one playes Independent Nightingale, not even Lyrilusc players
@@kichiroumitsurugi4363 SKSV was pretty clearly broken to be fair: it was also good with Electrumite and Revolution Dragon.
Neptune wasn't good by itself with Independent either: it only saw play in Zoodiac lists that could turbo out King of the Feral Imps without using the NS.
But the problem is those cards. Effect copiers do in fact make it very difficult to create new cards, because there's always the chance for new cards to become broken with them.
Independent is entirely fair by herself. SKSV and Neptune were never going to be fair for long.

Pretty average, tbh. Monkeyboard is nice, but its downside can be a bit too much, and popping Plushfire is not all that's cracked up to be anymore. Realistically, it would jist serve as a boost to Dracoslayers

Plushfire is crazy but you can't expect one card carry the entire deck, monkeyboard being ashed is also awful since you need to have hard drawn lizardraw or guitartle to pend summon in that case

Electrumite is the weakest card that people think is broken istg. Even with it pendulum decks suck but god forbid they ever bring it back, they might top a weekly

Electrumite is such a crazy good enabler for pend decks that between the time that it was banned in the tcg and today, it was never banned in the ocg, and since they have Supreme King Starving Venom Dragon too, this means that they have multiple copies of it, making pendulums so good that they got 0 tiered decks ever since Pend Magicians fell off in the ocg, with only a brief surge of popularity after recent support released, only for it to fell off too almost imediatly, limiting the tops of Pendulum as a whole mechanic to just one very dedicated Endymion player who shows up on pretty much every reports in Road of the King outside of said brief surge of popularity I mentioned.
Electrumite is one of safest card to put out of the banlist and onto the limited list, everyone who thinks otherwise needs to realise that it's only banned because the tcg hates pends as much as yugiboomers.
Well tbf pend can't exactly dedicate 10 deck slots to earth insect and still be consistent
And having electrumite meant the ocg had less copies of harmonizing and double iris, both were at 1 for a while and with the most recent banlist are at 2, cronograph is also at 1
What makes it worse is that Electrumite fixes a lot of the issues a lot of Pendulum Decks normally have anyways. In Post April Fools Revision, Every mechanic got what they normally had except Pendulums. Ever since Electrumite got banned alongside Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom in the TCG got banned, Pendulums barely topped at all and they blatantly refuse to allow the mechanic to be normal again.
I've recently thought, after playing Endymion in MD, that Electrumite can be at 1 and see very little meta relevance. Also servant of endymion to 3.

Halq is the only enabler for Auroradon, but I doubt this is the last time it’ll be broken… in the OCG at least. Halqs definitely the better of the 2, but don’t let Auroradon off too easy
Auroradon would be *fine* if they gave it the speedroid clause like some of the other mecha phantom beasts. "Nothing but wind for the rest of the turn." 001 combos are dead and you can't make borreload savage off it anymore either
I have no idea how we're suppose to summon Auroradon without Halq. But I don't really want to find out; the moment someone figured out a good way to do the card would be broken again.
@@Gilphon Dracossack does it. Make two tokens and immediately link them and Dracossack off for Auroradon. It's almost like two cards from the same archetype have synergy with each other.
@@Gilphon Barricadeborg + literally any machine extender. It's not much harder than Halq lines and, in fact, you still have 1 card Auroradon combos like TGU > SS Sangan > Link Barricadeborg > Search Turbo Booster > SS Turbo Booster > Link Auroradon
I think the reason United We Stand was hit was because of how it played with Scapegoat. You could summon a monster, equip it with United We Stand and then activate Scapegoat and you have a monster that gets an instant 4000 point attack boost.

There are 3 cards that I find hilarious how they hit them way back in the day.
-Injection Fairy Lily was not only limited through most of DM, but it was actually one of the first cards to be banned alongside the likes of CED and Yata Garasu, because Konami was just too afraid of people beating over massive boss monsters with a level 3 (Nevermind that exiled force was not banned)
-Mage Power was limited for quite a while back in the day too, even when it essentially is a weaker United we Stand that’s somewhat easy to set up (Speaking of United that one was also banned during a single format for some reason)
-Drop-Off was hit on the list for just one random format in 2006 out of Konami overcorrecting against hand-rip cards (yet Trap Dustshoot which was way stronger stayed at 3 copies)
Fairy Lily was hit because Konami didn’t want people to effectively normal summon/recruit for a 3k beat stick since it also worked for direct attacks as well
It was basically Borrelsword Dragon at the time
Tsukuyomi was the card that got drop off limited. There was a deck abusing mask of darkness that basically prevented your opponent from drawing. It’s the same deck that got time seal banned.
Ok so will this be full of the massive amount of banned tuners when XYZs were released so Konami could force people to play the latter over Synchros? Or will it be full of the massive amount of banned tuners when Konami refused to do anything about Halqifibrax?

I'll die on this hill, but the Lunalight Tiger ban was weird. I'll not argue against hitting Tiger, however the timing of the Tiger ban was super weird. They banned Tiger, like a MONTH before Secret Slayers released. You know, the pack with Adamancipator, a combo deck that was significantly better than the existing Lunalight/Rank 4 decks? So yeah, while I can understand the concept of a Tiger ban, it's actual banning was historically irrelevant.

On one hand, monster heavy decks get punished so hard these days that I'd love to see ppl opt in to that and play Sekka's Light just to draw 2. On the other hand, watching your opponent play a build with a couple powerful spells just to fairy tail snow them out the GY and use Sekka's Light turn 3 would not feel great
The problem in that scenario is Snow though, and Snow is a card that should stay banned forever since it only gets better over time. Nobody has any idea why they put it to 1

Even back when it was legal, there was only like 1 deck that could make good use of it and these days, the best decks need field spells, fusion spells, counter traps or at minimum board breaking spells/traps to function in any competitive capacity. At best, a Sekka's Light deck would be a really cool, creative strategy that loses very hard to dark ruler no more. Frankly I'd love to see it

Heavy storm is banned because it allows people to destroy their own floodgates. Pretty much it is like, you floodgate your oponent, then comes your turn, you clear your oponent's backrow, turn off your floodgates, kill
I know that "ban" is more of a short hand to say "hit" in a lot of cases, but I just wanted to clarify that A-assault Core was limited rather than banned when it was hit. Just wanted to put that out there because I could see people not knowing that and thinking it was banned based on how it was described in the video.
Those takes compiled at the end were pretty bad.

Breaker The Magical Warrior was banned TWICE (in '07, to 1 for a format, then banned again in '08). All 3 (Green, Red, and Yellow) Gadgets were semi-limited for the Sept. '07 format. Geargiagear spent the entirety of 2015 at 1 when Geargia wouldn't have stood a chance with it at 3 against BA, Shaddolls, Nekroz, and Qli. Phantom of Chaos was semi-limited in Sept. '08. Sacred Sword of Seven Stars spent a year and a half on the banlist in '14-'15.
Breaker deserve that ban during its time because back then it was 1 card that could do the job of 2 cards. It was either a 1900 beat stick or a backrow remover.
Sacred swords was put there to try to curb dragon rulers.

Duel Links input. They semi-limited Amazoness Baby Tiger to deal “hit” Amazoness decks. It did functionally nothing and the entire Amazoness community malded about it nonstop until the actual problematic card (Amazoness Onslaught) was finally semi-limited.

The problem is the comunity that accepts older supplementary engines/cards being hit instead of the new cards that made the older cards even playable. It shouldn't matter how much money you spent on a Spright Core, Spright cards are the problem, not Toad or Frogs. Zeus is the problem not Drident. Halq is the problem, not Olion or Jet Synchron.
Some people think they have the god given right to play a meta deck at least for 3 formats until they ban it. That is NOT the point of the banlist. It's to stop cards that are too powerful. If new card is a problem, get rid of it, even if many people just bought a 300€ playset.
The playerbase has nothing to do with jt, koonami is never going to release a shiny new toy and not let the players play with it. There’s no point in doing that
United was on the list because of Goats, and the reason it was there was so you couldn't get it easily as we didn't really have Equip searchers at the time. SO ya, when everyone is running 3 Scapegoat, United gets a little silly.
My fellow Duel Links players, who remembers when Konami limited plant support because they thought Rikkas were gonna be broken upon release? Who also remembers that even after the limits to plant support were lifted Rikka then proceeded to continue to do fuck all but win duels?

While I personally still advocate for it to go, due to being unsportsmanlike, it never was the problem card by itself.
When it got banned it was to stop a stupid lock, where you somehow must get Sangan or Witch of the Dark Forest on the field, without normal summoning them, set up a light and a dark to banish for Chaos Emporer Dragon, hard draw and summon the CED, then use its effect to wipe the field and hand of both players, triggering the float of Sangan or Witch to search Yata, and then normal summon that bird and use its effect to prevent the opponent from drawing.
To make it even dumber it got banned on the same list as the problem card CED.

Book of Moon was limited to 1 in like, 2011, I think? For reasons I honestly don't even understand, I think it had something to do with Empty Jar FTK? It then proceeded to stay there for like 8 years for zero reason despite Fairy Tail Snow being able to run around impunity, it was really dumb.
NO. It really is just a stupidly strong yugioh card. It's one of those anti fun cards, and honestly would have saw plenty of play at 3 from 2011 to 2020. Hell it was even pretty good for a few formats since it came to 3, i ran it in adams to win the zoo match up for instance after the block ban.
