It's not really strange. Both markets and households need time to make adjustments to budgets. As those adjustments are made people spend less, companies cut spending, and the overall economy learns to navigate the higher prices. Once that is accomplished the "inflation" has started to reduce. Not because of the FED but because businesses and households have adjusted. But the FED will use that data to spin their agenda the best way they can. I like your thinking. When you have margin, in even your pension that you can invest and save, then once SSI comes, that's gravy on the meat. You can either invest it also or spend it.
I paid into FICA for 40 years and still am. I and millions have paid for our SSA retirement. Its not a bonus its paid into or you cant get it if you have not worked hour 40 credits. The younger generation will never see.
You got a roof over your head. Look, I'm not trying to be an ass. I can't even find a place that I can afford and trust me when I say I am not picky, don't care where it is. There were a couple places I had my eye on, starting end of '20. They raised the rent on each $150. I did a little digging into the management company. I already had suspicions bc of the low income apartment situation. I tracked them back to Black Rock. Believe what you will, I have done the work. Thousands of hours. Some I already knew. If you knew what I know you might would have a different focus. Maybe us marching in Washington, instead of ppl 'talking' about the shitty on social platforms.
Yes! We found out that someone was getting one of our free credit reports every year. Every wage increase, the rent went up. Not just the minimum wage, but personal increases because of good jobs. With in days of a wage increase, our rent went up. We locked up our credit, and the insta-rent-hikes stopped for YEARS. Finally the manager asked us "if we were okay, how our jobs were going". They have everything they need to track your income when you give it to them!
My parents aren’t too upset because of the stock market. I can only imagine the pain seniors have that don’t have investments. I don’t think I’ll ever see SS.

2.5% of $2,000 is $50 like he said. Those who have $3,500 in benefits will get $87 a month but how many get $3,500 a month? I think the maximum they give is $3,800
Just the top seven expenses in 2023 cost a total of $5,060 billion,
This total is $160 billion over the $4,900 billion in tax revenue collected.
Social Security: $1,300 billion

Defense: $850 billion
Interest on the debt: $640 billion
income security programs: $600 billion.
Federal pensions: $270 billion.

Shame is convicted convicts who collect
Medicare and Medicare supplement insurance premiums to increase by $55 monthly easily.
Strange how the 3rd quarter inflation rate is always less that the other quarters?
It's not really strange. Both markets and households need time to make adjustments to budgets. As those adjustments are made people spend less, companies cut spending, and the overall economy learns to navigate the higher prices. Once that is accomplished the "inflation" has started to reduce. Not because of the FED but because businesses and households have adjusted. But the FED will use that data to spin their agenda the best way they can. It sucks but we don't really have any other choice, as a citizen.
Exactly! I know why! It’s all a game , every year!

Trump 2024- no tax on Ss
And paying into social security for all those years, you would think that you would acquire interest.
Plus that little raise doesn't help when the state cuts your snap benefits for every dollar given to you. They just take cuts from you somewhere else.
The people that worked all of their life and paid into the system get screwed at retirement. But the people that come into the US claiming asylum or illegals get free housing, food, medical, spending $ and more. Why is this happening??
They are buying Democratic votes.
No Tax on Social Security. Vote Trump.
Because we are putting the wrong people in White House. The politicians get way better pay & retirement benefits than the hard-working Americans. We pay more taxes but are getting shriking ss benefits.
Idk why you’re relying on government to bail you out during retirement you should be saving your money not depending on some money from the government.
Cause the Democrats hate white people

Bottom line is plan, save and invest for your own retirement and don't plan on having any social security. If we do get it, think of it as a small bonus. Hope for the best but plan for the worst.
Too late for many for that 'option'
I like your thinking. When you have margin, in even your pension that you can invest and save, then once SSI comes, that's gravy on the meat. You can either invest it also or spend it.
I paid into FICA for 40 years and still am. I and millions have paid for our SSA retirement. Its not a bonus its paid into or you cant get it if you have not worked hour 40 credits. The younger generation will never see.
VA disability ftw
The worst is that money is worthless. Then, all your savings, scrimping, whatever, won't matter a whit. Isn't a way to plan for that, for most people.
Crazy they take 300$ out my check everytime for social security yet they can’t pay for it😂.
Congress bills should always be stand alone bills. Politicians have too much flexibility with bill structure.
It's not enough because my increase will be $26.00 and then my landlord raises the rent $25.00 and I get nothing

Oh no landlord and increase it 10-20%
I firmly believe that many of our problems are caused by greedy landlords driving up costs for personal greed.

My parents aren’t too upset because of the stock market. I can only imagine the pain seniors have that don’t have investments. I don’t think I’ll ever see SS.
Same, my parents have the luxury of SCHD and chill in their Roth and brokerage accounts. Sucks for people who solely dependent on SS, who knows if there's any left by time we retire. I'll start claiming it early despite not getting the full amount and just put the fund in my investment account and call it a day. Probably gonna end up generating more sustainable income than waiting for the SS checks.
When the market crashes ..they will be upset
I think that if you're retired and eligible for SS then any and all medical expenses should be 100 percent free. If you've worked for 40 plus years, taking care of yourself shouldn't be a financial burden.
My former employer offers FREE lifetime family healthcare for 20 years of employment.

As long as the Taliban and Ukraine are taken care of than who cares about American cost of living adjustment. Ask any American in any walk of life and they will tell you “Taliban” and “Ukraine” that is it!!!!
It's becoming smaller because the government is OUT OF MONEY. Bottom line: don't depend on the government for income.
The government depends on us for income.
So how long should people keep working? Do they expect you to die on the job? What happens if businesses think you are too old to work and won't hire you. Or you can't physically work anymore. The rich don't have to worry about this stuff. Poorer people would like to retire from working too. The rich get out of paying taxes but the rest of us pay the taxes. This is out of balance.

How can we possibly be running out of money for social security??
MAYBE THEY SHOULD STOP BORROWING FROM SOCIAL SECURITY WHICH BORROWING SHOULDN'T EVEN BE A WORD FOR THEM THEY TAKE IT AND NEVER PAY IT BACK!
With more and more people working that means that more and more money should be going into social security. We should never run out of social security when people are still working and still paying social security how can we possibly run out?
Exactly.
That goes back to Reagan. Borrowing from SS didn't happen until he changed all that.

The average person pays about $180,000 into Social Security over their working life, and if retired at 65, it would take approximately 10 years to get it back based on an average monthly benefit of around $1,800. Average person lives to 79.
The Social Security tax rate is 6.2% of an employee's wages, up to the annual wage base limit, with employers also contributing 6.2%, totaling 12.4% for Social Security.

FYI. COLA SS is also what the VA uses for disabled veterans. It use to be a flat 4% every year but President Obama cut that from the budget.
They can't correct it as it will bankrupt the system, just as why the didn't index the tax on Social Security Retirement whereby more and more people are being taxed on their retirement which was already taxed. The inflation is almost always lowest in the 3rd quarter, which is why it was chosen.

This is why relying completely on SS is a horrible idea. I don't factor that in at all to retirement. Relying on the gov't to manage something correctly is never a good plan.
How come SS is running out of money but folks in food stand, section 8 or obamacare never run out of money no matter who is running the country.

More importantly why does the Pentagon military budget can not account for 5 to 9 trillion dollars which has happened more then once. More importantly why does the government give all our money to the Military Industrial Complex funding proxy wars that we should not be involved in that kill hundreds of thousands of people and accomplish nothing to help the world in any way. More importantly why does the government give subsidies to Walmart at the tune of 24 million dollars a day (aprox. 7.8 billion a year). The list goes on and on. Yep, but it's both parties holding a change on how it is calculated.
This has ZERO to do with this administration. If Trump were in office, it’d still be a 2.5% increase. As Brian said, it’s based on a formula…the same formula regardless of which party is in the White House.
