I remember watching the Stones Throw documentary and they interviewed Questlove. I'm paraphrasing, but Quest said he had a conversation with Dilla back in the day, where Dilla was like "man! Madlib is killing me right now! His shit is at a level I'm trying to get to!". He was saying how Dilla would hear Madlib's music and he could hear very subtle nuances in the music that only a master like himself could hear. Dilla said that "Madlib was speaking to ME in his music". I thought that was fascinating. Dilla and Madlib were at such an extraordinary level of mastery of the craft, that they were on this shared wavelength and could speak a language only each other and those at the pinnacle could understand. I've been playing this album for like 10 years, but this makes me appreciate this album way more. There's a depth and hidden language to it that I cannot even fathom.
PBW on Questlove Supreme - Dilla got his hands on Lootpack and told Quest that he met his maker. Quest didn't understand the fire that is LP.
