What Happened To Christion? The first R&B act on Roc-A-Fella

- In the late 90’s Rocafella records were in a good position. Jay released in my lifetime vol 1. It sold 138 000 copies in the first week and debuted at number 3 on the billboard 200. Rocafella records started to dominate hip hop. Each project they released put them in a better position within the genre however Eventually, Jay, Biggs and Dame thought an R&b act would expand their reach and signed a duo called Christion to Rocafella Records.
Full of Smoke is a masterpiece. They could of have been legends like Maxwell, Jill Scott, and Erykah Badu just to name a few.
Comparing these dudes to Maxwell, Erykah Badu, and Jill Scott lmao. Put the crack pipe down miss.
@@merciless41582you need to learn how to read she said they could have been. She wasn't comparing. You 🤡🤡🤡
Naw, that song was on that level for real..
'Watching MY LIFE GO DOWN!! I would play that song OVER and OVER again in '97.
Full of Smoke.
WORD!!! And on the radio.
Golden State21 I actually bought the single
@@MrQuietstorm93 u do remember this was '97, right?? Before UA-cam, or streaming.. How else could u play a song over and over again BACK THEN? Since u bought the single(like most people in '97) u should go buy a CLUE..
Golden State21 I was just reminiscing on how I liked the song and how the vibe and times were back then. 🤨
Someone mentioned that they need an Unsung episode,I agree,💯
Do the Whitehead Brothers
@@toyatalksradio,Good one💯
Absolutely they need a unsung I fucking love them I'm still listening to there album 🦋🦋🦋sorry for cussing I got excited 😆
They were such the vibe!
They only made two albums with one maybe two hits. First album had a few bangers but not a big enough catalog for an unsung
"Ghetto Cyrano" has got to be one of (if not, THE) most underrated albums in music history. That whole project was nothing short of brilliant. My Opinion, of course.
That first album is insanely underrated
Sounds like Master P was the only major Black CEO that wanted the best for his artists
Facts...P made sure his whole squad was on...even the B & C list artist. In the year 1998, No Limit put out over 20 studio albums, & most of them went either gold or platinum!! That's what your label supposed to do for you as a artist...get the music out to the people!!
Yep!
@@christophermiller6835 You know that is a damn lie. The B and C list artists on No Limit didn't get nothing from P and that's why they didn't sell. He wasn't even paying Beats By The Pound and they left. If your name wasn't Mystikal, Mia X, Kane and Abel, Mr Serv On, C-Murder, Big Ed, Master P, Fiend, Silkk The Shocker and Snoop nobody wasn't buying your album on No Limit.
Facts
I'm surprised they(the 1 or 2 percenters) didn't have him(Master P) killed or at least try to kill that dude for doing right by his own people
Handsome Men, and their voices was soulful 😍
VERY handsome! Yes!!!
Competition in the 90's was fierce! Every label signed Black R&B acts and rappers who all were very good. We had too many artists to choose from at one point and many talented people were lost in the crowd.
You make a good point but, some artists wasn't as thirsty as others,💯
It’s sucks nowadays it’s the opposite of everything you just said
@@latoyabanks5175 or promoted as well as others...
Its not just about that. The album was poorly produced and wasn't good.
It wasn't promoted as a masterpiece
"Full of smoke"..was the bomb!!! Still LISTENING in 2020
This duo was VERY underrated. They had their own signature sound with a touch of jazz and blues. Thanks for posting!
They shouldn’t have signed with the Roc!!!! That’s what happened!!!!!!! Dope duo group!!!!
Nobody got big on Rocafella but Jay...the one who did was Kanye and Jay used him up
@@354allday Cam and Juelz were big at one time when they were signed to the Roc. State Property and Beans had a good run but Jay is one of the top artist to ever hit the game so you can't compare his level of success to many other artists in the game.
Jay Z and P Diddy are the worst people to do business with for an artist smh
The artist don’t think so Roc Nation have the best artist even if it’s just for management.... Check the Roster
Not really cause a lot of Puff's artists were pretty successful and rich.
@@2maraRocafella had harder artists. And they were all solid.
PREACH!!!!
This is why rihanna is not inspired with music n move on to fashion
That's so sad! They were really good and should've had longer careers.
Watching my life go down!
"Ghetto Cyrano" is a highly slept on album.
It's sad that their 2nd Unreleased Album will never make it at the light of the day
I always wondered what happened to them and to this day I listen to their music from time to time.. Great job, you dug in the crates for this one!
My band opened for Allen's metal band last year in Oakland. Brotha is still rockin. 🤘🏾🔥🤘🏾
Their album Ghetto Cyrano in 98 was dope all the way through. Even their track on Streets Is Watching with Jay was fire. Rell was fire too but they didn't know how to market R&B acts.
I remember Christion, he killed the hook on Freeway’s single Alright. I felt the pain in his voice 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I still love that song 👌🏾
That’s what just brought me here
Allen anothony one of christion
Facts. That’s a part of everyday playlist along with Full of Smoke
Allen Anthony's youngest son was born autistic. I'm sure that has something to do with the pain u hear.
These dudes are handsome they should try acting
I'm trying to figure out why if you have Neo Soul artists like Christion why you just wouldn't put them on tour with Toni Tony Toné or Maxwell or Joe or kenny Latimore or D'Angelo. They should've known to put them in that lane. I guess bcuz Neo Soul was so new they didn't know that that was the avenue to take. That's why as a R&B artist you really shouldn’t sign with a new "rap" label bcuz they have no real experience in the R&B lane and in their case the Neo Soul lane. I wish they could've signed with Hidden Beach or Kedar Massenburg or even Motown they would've blew up more
That's bcz it wouldn't be much of a tour ,mixing gays with rap in the 80's &90's was against the law.Bringing us too so many down low men in the music industry today.Being gay now aint a bad thing nowdays but back then it would kill ya in the industry.
Jay Z and Dash have never handled other artists well.
Very true. We all know that Neo Soul was major in the late 90's and early 2000's. Maxwell was major, and Musiq Soulchild/ Bilal. Jill Scott and Jill Scott were running things. Another sad story!!!
Tehuti Goddess Right???🤷🏽♀️ What does being gay have to do with this? I never heard anything about their sexuality. Everyone in Hollywood is accused of being a homosexual. This group definitely should’ve been among Maxwell, David Anthony, Anthony David, Musiq Soulchild… They had that smooth sound. I don’t know what they do in their bedrooms but they look good and they sound good. They still can do something especially in today’s world of technology. I hope they don’t give up
They could've gone with Babyface.
“Come To Me”, “Full of Smoke”, “Soon”…Christion was 🔥Makes NO Sense why they aren’t huge. I searched years ago on what happened & figured Jay-Z was jealous.
Still slap this to this day...they where on New York undercover
Milestone moment for artists back in the day!
Yess that’s how I found out who they where from there song that was played !
"Full of smoke" and "come to me" are my favorite songs
Anything goes and face like yours
Good video. Everybody can't get to the upper levels, but its okay, Christion made an impact on us.
I love Full of Smoke..
I think I first heard this song on an episode of NY Undercover
FROM R&B TO ROCK MUSIZ THEY R TALENTED BROTHERS,I MISS THEIR MUSIZ FRFR...✌🏼
Anyone remember Rell the singer Damon Dash signed. He was in the movie state property also..
Had to look up a song to remember him lol
MC weaver beastly 💪🏽
Most may prominently know him in the hook for “No Better Love” by Young Gunz
But he’s been on songs as early as
“Love For Free” from Streets Is Watching OST.
@@thedfferencetab1977 ok I remember No better love. Thanks
Ali, can you do a video on former Rocafella artist, Rell? He was another r&b act on the Roc that disappeared.
Yes,that would be a good one,💯
For Free ft. Jay-Z off the streets is watchin’ album was my song!!
I literally just asked this question b4 I saw yours.. Great minds...💯
Rell had a little momentum but it came out that he was seen raped in jail and that wasn't good for the labels image so they shelved him after the young gunz album
@@jphuture Get the ( hush) out of here😬😱 had no idea. Had no idea he served jail time or that any of these events happened. Thanks for sharing.
The whole album was off the chain...these some bad ass boys thanks for doing this video🦋
This video is SO necessary! I’m glad I found it. Full of Smoke was and is nothing short of an experience!
One of the most underrated group of all time! Its disgusting !
I remember talking to the lead singer at Club 112 in Buckhead Atlanta circa 1998-2000. Don’t remember the exact year. These men were extremely other worldly handsome up close. However, they needed a bigger venue. Many people, especially women, wanted them to succeed. They had natural talent and massive sex appeal. Maybe they posed a threat to Jay. Who knows, but if they still have their “appeal,” life is evergreen. They should def get under better management and give it another go...😊💕💯
U really took it back with that1...U must've been 1 of the last Mohicans lol...cus Buckhead was 112's last stop..but wasnt the same. #tb #ATL
@Clockwork ..At least in the looks department😂.. But seriously, sometimes people don't want to see other people win.
CHRISTION DID NOT UNDERSTAND BUSINESS of (MUSIC)
Jb
Their album was a classic if there ever was. So glad we got that album.
My favorite group I loved Allen Anthony he was so cute
Ghetto Cyrano Album still 🔥🔥🔥
💯💯💯
I bought the Christion CD. It’s classic. Also, what happened to RELL??? “Say it ain’t so” is a dope song and Rell has a great voice!!!
OMG, love Rell and Christion. What ever happened to Rell? Loved his song Love for Free.
@@racheld6391" love for free" was that joint!
It's a shame both of their Unreleased Albums will never make it at the light of day
omg i loved christion 😍 they brought such a different sound & style. i feel like they could’ve promoted themselves more effectively if they were around during the height of social media. i hope they’re doing well.
Christian & Rell never got their chance
*Cristion
Exactly
Just because of this video alone this channel is my favorite.
Never look from help from self absorbed jayz
This story is heartbreaking. They were an amazing group.
Full of Smoke is still 🔥🔥🔥🔥
One of the best Albums of the late 90's
Loved them! I still jam to their CD.
I used to love them. I still watch their videos.
I play that song over and over today 2021
I remember them that's sad that Christion didn't get the recognition that they deserve.
They should went to J records
Watching my life go down.. Dooooown
I always wondered what happened to them.Loved💜💓💜them They were so cute to me. Thats when you could buy CD Singles still got it. 'Full of Smoke"still goes hard to this day
I still have this album!! I LOVED the ENTIRE album.
Them Boys should've kame to the SOUF! We still be jammin FULL OF SMOKE n our Slab-Hurters
Stawwwppp it😎😄
THANK YOUUUUU FOR DOING THIS!!!!
Bring Back Your Love was my joint
The sad thing I never heard of this group before untill now I love me see neo soul damn "the roc" did them dirty 🤯
I'm so happy you do these type of videos, because for some reason I don't remember him. I wish I did though 🤔🤔Christion seemed extremely talented 💯
These gents were amazing and so underrated! Still rocking their music today. Thank you for sharing
Allen Anthony also did "Oh" & "The Walk" on the Afro Samurai soundtrack with Stone Mecca.
I'm so glad that you post the most I solve Mysteries upon on entertainment in the late 90s that nobody has ever wondered about.
Heyyy I'm in this video @ 8:17, lmao!!
Kenni and Allen were my boys...and we shared the same diretor (Allen Ferguson) for all of our music videos. I was in a group called Goodfellaz (Sugar Honey Ice Tea & If You Walk Away) at the time.
The brother that stayed on the roc sang the hook on freeways song alright. He helped to make the song a classic
He had his own (R&B) version of the song for himself as well
Album was tough
Wow they got talent and I've never heard anymore of their songs.
I drove my kids crazy with Bring back your love video. I love their music!
I use to play that album in the 90s over & over and smoke..
Ghetto Cyrano was a Dope album! I bought it the 1st day it came out! It just occurred to me as I type this that once again We as Black people love to attack our own CEO's/Executives. White Artists drop album's ALL year around & the one's that flop you never hear them calling out the CEO's/Presidents of the Label by name (most people don't even care who it is) but a black artist on a black owned label, the CEO's whole family is blamed. That video basically made it seem like if you sign to Roc-A-Fella Records Jay - Z HAS to be either on your album or standing next to you & if you don't blow up it's his fault!🤷♂️🤔
Kingpin Status Yeah, what’s up with that?
Yaassssss!!!! Imagine if Christion had been under the Bad Boy label...Diddy would have known how to handle them properly and they would have been huge!
Lol you have to be being sarcastic
You can't be serious! I'm going to act like you're not...
P Diddy could have probably made them bigger but he would have stole all their money.
I always been a hip hop head but this dudes, was 🔥 🔥 🔥! They should of super blew up!
Thanks again I needed something this week was dry
Never heard of the group but i knew these songs as a kid ! Thanks bro you're the greatest
Pimp this Love! Classic '90s R&B!
Love this entire album!
Wow. Thank you for this. Christión is the truth 💪🏽♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🤴🏾
I still listen to their music to this day!!!! Those brothers had talent!!!! They got screwed.
I LOVE THESE GUYS!!!
I had this on cassette tape.
Shout out to the Blogger this was a good one I have to be honest I never heard of this group or I didn't even know that rockafella sign R&B group you just gave me some history now I have to go and listen to their music and another thing I'm not surprised that Jay-Z didn't help this group because as history has showing Jay-Z do not help his artist until they get hot or they have a hot track that he wants to get on
What are talking about? Jay-Z jumped on one of their songs to try to promote them it didn't help. That song was good but it didn't help to sell their first album. Dame was supposedly the label head and he didn't promote them either but some how he doesn't get blamed for that. Also Christion moved to loud records where they didn't know how to promote them either. Loud eventually went bankrupt which affected all the they had signed to label
Lady T Like I said I stand by what I said Dame dash Is not A Promoter he’s a Co founder Of Rockefella records and Record executive So get your facts straight For one because it’s clear to me you don’t know what you’re talking about 😂 🤣 And wow JAY-Z help them with one song What a big help that was 😂 🤣 I see what you’re saying about dame dash But at the end of the day he’s not a artist he is a record Executive if jay-z would I have help them more like hope on A couple of their songs I bet you they would’ve did much better Point blank like I said Jay Z do not help his artists unless they have a hot track or some type of buzz
@@redfox3128 He doesn't have to be a promoter to promote them they were his artist an as such he's responsible for his artist. Jayz didn't need his focus he could promote himself because he was artist and co owner. Christion was an artist of rocafella which means Dame was also responsible for bringing their music and image to the masses like Diddy did with Faith, Total, and 112. So i know what I'm talking you clearly don't
@@redfox3128 Also yes Jay-Z does help his artist how many songs on bleek, and beans did he hop on and of course he's not gonna jump on a song if he thinks it's not hot nobody would that's how most artist work. They can't just jump on any song just because if the song is bad they look bad. Like i said jay was a artist and co owner he can't carry the whole label by himself everybody has to do there part. Dame seemed more comfortable riding Jay's career then anything else
Lady T I see you think you know what you talking about But at the end of the day you’re not talking about nothing And thank you for using Diddy Because you just made my point in your sentence Diddy was a artist and owner And still help his artists more then jay-z Even knowing Diddy robbed his own artists And like I said before you want to keep talking about Dame dash is just a owner I don’t think he was that good at promoting R&B artist Dame dash His good in finding Talent Point blank and simple And I stand on what I said JAY-Z should’ve did more point blank and simple He had all the buzz at the time Jay Z could have help this group more than Dame Dash could ever do And this is why I take 50 Cent over JAY-Z don’t get me wrong I fuck with Jay Z when it comes to his music And do I have to bring up with 50 Cent buzz did for his artists
The way they said, “watching my life go DOWN” always cracked me up 🤣.
I always wonder what happened to this group they are very talented artist. They should of blow all the way up.
So listen to this album till this day❤❤
Yes I been asking this on so many blogs saw j talking to Gale King about the diamond 💎 hand sign and YOU DOING THIS IM SO HAPPY I LOVED THEIR ALBUM
I loved this group so much!
Very underrated I was young singing rocking to them I would pay today to see them live
Omg!!! I haven’t watched this yet, but I still listen to this CD and was wondering last week what ever happened to them. The best version of “I wanna get next to you” ever!!!!
shout out to christion met them bros in oakland a few of my comrades and i put some work in with them at tone capone
They were a great group. I always wondered what happened with that. They had the sound, the look, and the vibe. That smoke song was a hit. Hope they resurface.
At that time everybody down with the Roc had to be the same complexion. That Jay Z beige was in 🤣😆✌
to this day this is one of the best non Jay-Z non Kanye Rocafella album. I'll stand firm on that
These are some bad boys one album and it was the shit I love them🦋
Whatever happed to Glenn Lewis
Still making music it's been about 3 years though and went the independent route just like Craig David
Yeah !! got that first album, still jamming, everyone has not heard it. They did what a lot of the old big labels do , shelve the real artist, in lieu of album sales, they should've put an R&B team together since that was their first R&B offering, ijs !!
Allen Anthony had a solo song called Alright. And what did the Roc do? Remix it with Freeway and totally disregard the original version.
I think another thing worth mentioning was that the old Rocafella wasn't as big then as they was before they went under...
2023
Thank you for sharing
The Streets are still watching on what in the hell happened to them 😂
If it wasn't for the song "Full of smoke" song and video I wouldn't remember who they are. I have the tape in my 🏠! I now realize how difficult it was to promote them because of other distractions and selfishness. I have to play the album and zone out. Makes you wonder what they're up to in "this" point in time?
Full of smoke is a man's anthem
I just discovered them wow. ❤
Major thank you, and you can't find their albums no where
They sang the hook on freeway's song alright. That was a classic.
allen anthony only
He has a version with just himself on it to
Dash not releasing Anthony’s solo album may have been a blessing in disguise.
Anthony's original Neo Soul sound showcased his voice the best IMO. Anthony even ventured into Heavy Metal, a complete departure from his roots. Sometimes authenticity really is what's best.
I was a big fan of Christión and their first album and often wondered what happened to them, and then Anthony after he sang that hook on Freeway's song Alright.
I had high hopes for him and I hope he finds his way back to Neo Soul music.
