I felt the loss too man. I'd been a fan of his music since 2004. He helped revive my love for rap music (after 2003 I was getting bored with it) and made my love for hip hop culture become deeper than what it already was. I got into MF DOOM during an extremely transitional time in my life. I'd pretty much completely abandoned my life to take a wild shot at something new. I remember listening to him and Killer Mike non-stop when I was repeatedly driving six hours each direction getting my new life set up. Got to go meet my new boss? 12 hours of MF DOOM. Two trips in my car moving all my stuff out into the middle of nowhere where I'd be living? 24 hours of MF DOOM. He's kinda wormed his way into my soul as a result. Like the background music for my new life, which was an insane risk on my part, but has worked out! Sometimes if you're unhappy with where your heading, you gotta pull a complete 180 and go hard in a different direction.
This was a very insightful look into MF DOOM’s full musical career. I discovered his music later in my life at a time that I felt like an outcast. MF DOOM’s music since then has really touched me in a way that mere words cannot express. Whether it be a specific life lesson, or just humorous connections between substance and people, and a collection of personas that mesh so incredibly interesting together. The numerous collaborations, as well as his many contributions to the rap and music industry have rightly made him an icon for so many other musicians. He is after all your favorite rappers favorite rapper. Moreover, MF DOOM has touched me with his music on a personal level, taught me lessons that I won’t soon forget, as well as re listening to his tracks as to reassure and reinstate said lessons. R.I.P to one of many talents taken from us way too soon, yet he’s always here with us at same time, just throw on that track and he’s there. ❤
