    For some people who literally have no budget, have "no time" I agree this can be game changing for them. This episode is more for them. Some freelancers particularly in countries outside the US might benefit from this, maybe students here. But this video is not really for the freelance community as much as it is for bootstrap businesses and side hustlers.
    If you can find gigs that you know you can do for $10 in 10 minutes you can make $200 a day really easily.
    Not bad but in my opinion if you're doing that you can buy back enough time to build systems and products to make that without trading time for money which is what most major companies do. A product model typically trumps a service model long term...

      +Roberto Blake Why do you think freelancers can't take a lot of value from it. I'm know YOU could advertise premium creative services and charge a high price because you've lived it. You have the 100k YT channel and have the talent and skill to create unique value. So why wouldn't you? I know I could advertise my skills as a video animator content creator as a side hustle but I don't think it's worth the time right now.

      +Roberto Blake For any business minded seller it's never as one dimensional as relying on a single platform. To make fiverr work you need a process that works for you. When people slam fiverr sellers who undervalue their services it’s very rarely successful sellers. I think looking at the far majority isn’t the best way to judge a platform. The majority of videos you youtube are terrible, does that mean it’s a bad platform?
      Fiverr has a ton of successful sellers who value and price and their services appropriately. For most of them it isn’t about making $10 in 10 minutes but rather building a system transcends the time for money mentality.
      I am biased as a seller on the platform but taking a portfolio with thousands of completed projects and presenting it to resellers is just one way fiverr is more dynamic than just viewing it as relying on a platform.
      I think the vast majority of the freelance community hates fiverr does so out of ignorance. They aren’t intelligent/creative enough to implement a system that works for them so they say it’s a talentless community. It’s easier to blame fiverr for their lack of success and “sweat shop labor stealing their work” than it is to take time to implement a system that works.
      Obviously fiverr isn’t for everyone and there are lots of ways to make money as a freelancer but to write it off as a platform only good for students and people outside the US is a pretty narrow minded way of thinking

      +Alex Sandalis Saying you don't think it's worth the time is the key... Because it hasn't occurred to you how to make it practical... I.e every piece of content is marketing you but also a multiple income stream just waiting...
      If you did content talking about what being an animator is like you have the ability to make as revenue, affiliate sales revenue on products like Wacom tablets, art supplies and laptops. Not to mention sponsorships. On top of attracting clients who will look at your body of work...
      And now Amazon even lets content creators post their content and pays them in 3 different ways... So saying you don't see it as worth the time is the issue.
      Over the next 2-3 years you could build a 6-7 figure brand with your time and still make good recurring reliable money and get higher paying client work...
      By the way, Gary has put out a lot of content around how to do this. And not knowing how to get started isn't an issue with the hundreds of free videos like mine on UA-cam

    • @RobertoBlake
      @RobertoBlake 8 років тому +4

      +Alex Sandalis another follower of Gary, Jared Polin built a brand around his Photography using content... He now has a substantial high end of six figures business which got there within about 3-4 of the 6 years he's been at it... He's one of those early adopters of Gary from Crush It. It's never been more practical to do this sort of thing and it is proven... I just get really down at how many people are selling themselves short when success is right there for them...

    • @RobertoBlake
      @RobertoBlake 8 років тому +6

      +Ryan Heenan it's not as if I don't get it. Even as a business owner though who is very fiscally conservative there are a lot of unattractive things about not only this platform but the nature of them. Granted there are tons of benefits based on geography, a lack of networking ability or a lack of capital.
      But for every positive benefit of Fiverr and these platforms I could instantly give you a practical alternative...
      It's not just the freelance community and it's not just Fiverr. I could do the same with any social media platform as well.
      There is still a very strong value to working with people referred by people you know. There is a value to bartering when capital is low, Gary is a fan of this.
      As Gary said there are reasons this good for the far majority of his audience. But I honestly believe that in itself is symptom of a bigger issue, for which much of the cure is in Crush It and AskGaryVee...

      +Gotta go If your work is worth more than others then charge more but don't complain that people charge less than you. Fiverr is a marketplace that offers a huge amount of excellent creatives the opportunity to work at what they love doing. True, it also attracts a huge amount of untalented wasters but so does Upwork, PPH, Craigslist and just about anywhere there is a possibility of making money.

    • @RobertoBlake
      @RobertoBlake 8 років тому +3

      +Gotta go I disagree with that and I personally am not a fan of Fiverr. I think creatives who actually have the talent and the chops don't need to worry about Fiverr. I guarantee you Olive Garden isn't up at night worrying about how Burger King and McDonalds Dollar Menus are tanking the marketplace.... or devaluing what the provide... they just aren't.
      People who go to Fiverr shouldn't be the ideal customer of talented creative willing to get their head out of their computer screen to market and sell their business.
      Now if you don't have those chops or are super introverted then maybe you could go to Fiverr and find someone to help with your marketing or sales... I'd say you could hire me for that... but here's the thing... I'm expensive... so that may not be a good fit for you depending on your market or what you charge. Get it? There is a place for everything and it doesn't have to be an either or... Trust me I get it. I used to draw a line in the sand about this too, but I thought about it from a place of practicality instead of romanticism and I'm better for it.
      So instead of whining about Fiverr all of us creatives should celebrate the fact that we probably won't have to deal with clients with lower budgets if we don't want to... and can focus on the top of the market and what it takes to punch at that weight class...

    I love Fiverr, and believe me or not, there is soo many creative and potential people selling awesome stuff there.
    As a Fiverr seller I'm doing my full time job in that platform... I started on the dirty side, selling stuff for $5 and now I'm doing a great monthly income since I upgraded the prices and offering great gigs. Maybe Nike will never hire me, but small businesses are more than happy that I could create their videos for a reasonable price.
    There is a market for everybody.

    Fiverr isn't garbage. The people saying that are the ones who bought a five-dollar logo and said, hey why doesn't this look as good as the Nike swoosh?
    If you use Fiverr for five dollar brand identity, you're going to have a cheap looking brand. PERIOD!
    But if you use Fiverr for less common tasks, like getting a professional-sounding voiceover from a native Spanish speaker, or getting a professional cartoonist to draw a quick 5 minute sketch of your face for the back cover of that new ebook you're planning, or any other SMALL and SPECIFIC job there is enormous potential.
    Don't hate the platform because you don't understand how to use it

    • @RobertoBlake
      @RobertoBlake 8 років тому +1

      +The New Travel Agreed, it's a matter of investment. There are some people there doing amazing work for cheap, but that is likely because they live in a country where they honestly believe that is practical. Vs what they really should do is sell templates online globally at those rates instead of selling their time. Or sell pre-made items on Fiverr and Upsell custom modifications to these premade logos, websites, scripts, animations, etc.
      That moves them to a product model and a low price, with selling their time at a higher value... it makes sense when you think about it from that perspective...

    • @RichardStrong86
      @RichardStrong86 8 років тому

      +The New Travel Gary literally talks about how you've got to produce a logo that looks better than something he could come up with. Implying you've got to up your game on websites like fiverr. Keep in mind this has got to be done for $5.

      +dothefun I'm a freelancer and the only thing I can say about Fiverr is that I f#@#@ hate it. It's bad for clients- because as you put it you get what you pay for, which for 5$ is poor, rushed job or just straight out copy of another design, and the designer isn't getting payed well. 5$ per job is nothing for anyone on this Earth. Just stay away from it, you'll get much better results and designs.

    Gary you are a great influencer yet STOP INTERUPTING! You speak in FULL DETAIL and ELABORATE ENDLESSLY yet again, every single time your guests simply begin speaking YOU INTERUPT THEM and/or MOVE THEM ALONG ALMOST INSTANTLY! Same is the case with Episode #203, #185.

      +matters5 We are all entitled to our opinions. Did I make this about me? No I didn't. Yet if I had a show my point would still stand. Again, Gary speaks in FULL DETAIL and ELABORATES ENDLESSLY yet again, every single time his guests simply begin speaking GARY INTERUPTS THEM and/or MOVES THEM ALONG ALMOST INSTANTLY! It's constructive criticism. Gary also faced similar backlash post show #185. Clearly there are many others who feel the same. They are clearly on the show to also share their views. If they are to be interrupted as he currently is doing so, why then have them on the show? Makes perfect sense what I'm highlighting as a pain point.

    Inviting a couple successful freelancers to the show would bring so much more value. Inviting this guy is like inviting McDonald's revenue representative to give advice on food & health.

      honestly, you would be better working for free. Ask yourself, do you really need the $4 you would make a fiverr? You're better off trying to find the best unsigned artists/bands you can and tell them you will do it for free. This way, you will form an actual relationship and if they do blow up they may keep you in mind. You won't get that from fiverr. But that's just my 2 cents

    Ask yourself this, do you really want a logo from a template that was sold to a thousand other people? Would Nike, Apple, etc. accept this type of logo? Custom services is not where to save money... it's where you build your brand... one of the most important things.

      Eoin Finnegan 1. who said i paid $5? they have plenty of upsells. 2. i didn't by 10000 backlinks, i bought 20-40 which you would think are quality but nope. 3. they market the site as a place you can get a great logo for $5 which is bs.
      way to take everything i said out of context and twist it to suit your agenda though.

      +Brandy Arrington If someone does not give you the url where the link will be placed before you buy it then you can assume that there is a reason - usually it's because the site the link will be on is rubbish. If the site is a good link then they would be happy to show it off and perhaps earn more from it if its stats are good.
      As for logos, everyone has their own taste and I have seen guys who offer $5 with over 10,000 positive reviews. They may not be groundbreaking designs but the clients were happy with them. I personally wouldn't pay $5 for a logo but different budgets may need to.
      A new/small business owner can't go for top quality in everything. A graphic designer will say spend big on the logo, a website designer will say spend big on the website, a writer will say spend big on the website/marketing copy etc. Fiverr gives options to save in whatever area the business owner decides and that is fair enough. As for the rubbish you got done, why didn't you cancel the order/contact customer support and get a refund? Fiverr customer support is heavily biased towards buyers and if you have even a slightly legitimate case you will get refunded.

    #QOTD my biggest pain point is I need an onsite assistant to help organize my video and design files and shoot some b-roll footage of me.

    So many haters airing judgement on this episode. People need to stop and think about what Fiverr is representing. Fiverr is the grind Gary is drilling into people day in day out. Fiverr is the platform to make extra money (side hustle if you will), to build content, interest, support networks. If you're not willing to pay your due's with cheap or free services, you've lost. Millions of people need cheaper services to get there business off the ground and EVERYONE needs exposure, Fiverr gives that to both customers and sellers. Great episode.

I used Fiverr to actually attract customers for my platform to allow them to experience my product first then tell them its actually completely free to do for yourself. To the creatives who seem to feel hard done-by by this video, may I point out a couple of things:
    a) Not everyone who follows Gary is a creative (or even an entrepreneur, in my case), but I always find value in Gary's videos. Don't see this as an attack or a slight, instead think about what you can learn and apply to your situation,
    b) Fiverr is a service and no-one is forced to offer their skills on it or to use it. For those of us who are just starting up, we cannot necessarily afford (yet) the high quality and higher prices that you offer and maybe fiverr gives us access (at our current level) to branding ideas that get us started and which we can refine later on.

      I'm a creative entrepreneur and I'm not offended by this video, but I don't feel it covered the full scope of the conversation or addressed the concerns of the creatives watching it since it promised freelancing advice.
      It was a but biased. It didn't address the fact their are people who sell Subscribers and Likes in the platform and at least say they denounce anything like that. Or the designers who rip off copyrighted material.
      It didn't really go too tactical on how to succeed in the platform like optimizing your profile. What buyers look for...
      It's not that there was no value but out of 200+ videos of the show, with this month having some great ones and fantastic guest this one didn't quite fit somehow...

    As someone who's been in the web dev and design arena for over 13 years, fiverr clearly serves the clients who value low price point over anything else, and THAT'S OK. I used to bitch about how fiverr devalues the whole industry, but that's bullshit. Fiverr is great to build up a portfolio - better than working for free! You build your chops. It's a shark pool in there, but if you're still building up your client base, you'll learn really fucking fast what you enjoy, what you hate, how to manage your time and your boundaries and which niche you want to work with quicker than usual. Plus, as it's really competitive, you'll learn how to get way better at your craft.
    I would say that you're not going to get "discovered" on fiverr. Nike aren't shopping for fucking graphic designers on Fiverr because they understand that they can - and NEED to - pay someone at the prime in their craft. Fiverr and sites like this aren't going away, so either work with them, or don't. Stay in your lane, there's enough clients for everybody, wherever you peg yourself!

      +Nate Alspaugh It's interesting to see this kind of reaction to Fiverr. As a Fiverr seller myself I can tell you that your impression of Fiverr is incorrect. Sure, there is a lot of rubbish there but anyone with a brain can figure out the good from the bad, and if you get bad work you simply cancel the order and go to Customer Service who will refund you. People go to Fiverr because it is cheap, the ones who have bad experiences there are the ones who want to get the world for $5 ie. idiots. Those who want to buy thousands of followers, likes, website visitors etc are asking for trouble. Those who expect someone to spend hours on designing a unique logo to earn $5 deserve what they get.
      I do translation & proofreading and was asked recently to translate a document that would cost $4-500 from an agency. I offered to do it for $100. They came back to me 24 hours later to say I was too expensive and to ask if I could correct the translation they had got done by a cheaper seller. A saving of 80% of the RRP was not enough for these guys and these are the type of people who then complain about Fiverr being rubbish. Idiots.

    • @RobertoBlake
      @RobertoBlake 8 років тому +9

      +Nate Alspaugh Some people really like McDonalds and it's what they can afford, but a Designer that is confident in their abilities shouldn't be worried about Fiverr. McDonalds is not taking money away from places that sell $12 Burgers... because the person that wants to sit out on a nice patio and have a $12 Burger and a Lager while watching the game, isn't going to McDonalds. Freelancers need to stop trying to sell their services or the "Quality" of the Creative, and sell the experience that their ideal customer wants... people can work or whine... but not typically both...

      Call it design. Call it production quality. Call it Look / Feel. By whatever name it is going to be a part of your business on some level.
      Looking good doesn't have to be expensive though. Gary talks alot about getting educated. Do you think looking good is important to your business? Then get educated.
      The design fundamentals of what you need are not that hard, because what you need at the stage fiverr is able to service is super basic.
      Squarespace.com has a decent logo creator, Pinterest.com has plenty of reference images (punch in the same keywords you use to identify your product/market and you'll get a sense for the general look of your space).
      There are sites like unsplash.com and pexels.com for some pretty decent free photography.
      Software wise, photoshop would be a bit pricey in most cases but not a bad investment if your content driven. Canva.com is pretty good and they have some great tutorials on design for small business.
      If your going to be producing content and want to save money then figure out the basics of how to slap a logo, an overlay or a caption on a photo. How about how to make a custom instagram post or custom snapchat overlay.
      It's not that hard if you put in a little time to save alot of money and make your business look way better on the whole.

      Im interested to know, why didn't you just put your prices up then? Is it because the Fiverr community won't support "real life" actual business prices? I suspect someone in, say, LA, couldn't even make enough on Fiverr to pay expenses, as opposed to someone based and freelancing direct in the traditional way. If not, wouldn't it make sense to raise your prices above your traditional business prices and get all your business from Fiverr?

    First of all I 100% legit love you Gary, I checked out alot of entrepreneurs and read books about them but you stand out by miles because you keep it real and you always bring actual practical value.
    I dropped out of college in my last year and went on a full time freelancer career on Elance (now Upwork) and I've managed to grow and now I can afford to pay rent, buy shit and live decent.
    That would have not been possible on Fiverr. That website is for low profile freelancers or for someone from a country where 5$ means alot. There are some things that make sense there, like "I can take a photo in front of the Eiffel tower with your name on paper for 5$" but selling your skills whether they are editing, writing or anything that requires actual knowledge it's just not worth it. A 5$ price will get you a 5$ product, most of the time.
    Bottom line, fiverr is good for really cheap things or building a portfolio but even then it will be a portfolio of 5$ stuff.

      that doesn't even make sense. just because there are designers on fiverr doesn't mean there arent very successful ones as well. that's like saying all music producers should sell their beats for $5 since "thats what the market dictates". The key is knowing your worth... You won't see Metro Boomin, DJ Mustard, etc selling beats for cheap because most other producers do. The same applies to design.

    • @RobertoBlake
      @RobertoBlake 8 років тому +3

      +Entrena That is what everyone is getting wrong... Has nobody paid attention what Gary has said about platforms and social media in the past? You don't build your business on Facebook....or Twitter or Snapchat...or lord forbid UA-cam... you leverage it yes, but owning the relationship matters....you can't control the platform. So you still need your own website and majority of the effort should be building your brand and getting your ideal clients, not just any random one that comes along.
      If you don't have the chops to run an actual freelance practice (like all of us did 6 years ago before Fiverr existed) and get clients that will pay your rates... like we all did before 6 years ago... then the reality is that you are dependent on Fiverr and beholden to playing by their rules...
      This video was more for the business people than for the freelancers. If you are going to actually worry about a marketplace, why not create templates and stock images and sell them in the biggest marketplaces and stop trading time for money?
      Or sell templates in Fiverr and upsell the customization at a premium rate?
      Why was that not brought up? It would have been in a conversation between freelance practictioners. Which is why Gary's focus in this conversation was using it as leverage for exposure because that is what Gary knows (he's not wrong about this).
      However I'd make the argument there are better ways to get exposure and still make money... for example, you could do what Sean Wes is doing with his UA-cam channel or what Nathaniel Dodson from TutVid did or even Howard Pinsky or Jared Polin did... it's not complicated to build a brand... get your ideal clients, build products and sell services at a premium... but what it is, is a lot of hard work and that is where Fiverr comes in...
      It's convenient and easy.... so if you want convenient and easy and want to trade time for whatever money you can get... then it's for you.. until your account is suspended, or someone underbids you or someone pays to leave you bad reviews... (another service offered on the site by the way)...

    Fiverr is just the sad reality of the graphic design indusry. You download a cracked version of the Adobe CC Suite, follow a couple of tutorials and call yourself a graphic designer. Fiverr didn't created the situation, it justs exposes it. I'm a graphic designer myself and thanks God I have regular clients. That's what happens in any market when the supply is higher than the demand.

      @MsSquarebanana 8 років тому

      yeah you make a great point. the problem has always existed, there's just a super easy way of exploiting it now. part of my spiel now is reminding potential clients that they get a relationship, teamwork, and quality work with me. it's the wild west on fiverr and 99designs, and you usually get what you pay for.

    • @RobertoBlake
      @RobertoBlake 8 років тому

      +g33003030 This is true, but there is another point, designers don't have to despair over this, but they do need to "outwork the situation" by building their brands and embracing marketing and everything that goes with it. Because most creatives identify as introverts, this is rough on them and it is hurting them in the marketplace. Scaling your design service means you have to stop this "the work will speak for itself" mentality and get out there and sell. Outsell everyone at the highest price you can get, to clients you will love to deliver for...
      But most designers (not saying you) would rather write an article about how bad Fiverr is, which only markets Fiverr more, instead of taking the time to create 20 videos showing off their skills and personality and the potential relationship a client could have with them rather than not really owning the relationship and relying on a platform. We like and trust humans and if you can humanize your service and sell the relationship value it's not a commodity anymore and you aren't competing on price.
      The problem isn't Fiverr, its that creatives stop business lessons at Biz 101 and supply an demand economics.
      But there is a solution, buy and read these books or better yet get the audio:
      CRUSH IT
      THANK YOU ECONOMY

      +Richard Strong I agree! Being an actress I am constantly asked to work "for exposure." Nevermind the YEARS I've put into my own education and training. Thankfully, these people only represent a portion of "the market" and are mostly independent producers. The professional market is much more competitive but that's where you also find the good, paid work.

    Fiverr is great for some things. I've only bought, not sold. I had someone create my email signature with hyperlinks and my existing logo for $5 and got it in 30 minutes. I also had someone turn my resume into a great looking infographic for $10. Very happy with both of those.
    When I needed help rewriting something, the person who did the work wrote it in a way that sounded very strange, and it was obvious that English wasn't their primary language. At $10, I just considered it a loss.
    For graphic design, I'm a much bigger fan of 99 Designs. I had my company logo designed by someone, and I loved my designer. I'll continue to use both of these platforms as a buyer, and hope to find a way to use it as a seller.

    Fiverr is so great (thx Tim Ferrris on this too) The only thing I think fiverr should do is allow you to talk directly with the seller via something like Skype. If you're having your logo done or you have an illustrator and you just need to give certain details without all the writing quick conversation would save time and misunderstanding. I also think sometimes the way of communication is also cultural and sometimes can get in the way of the manner in which work is produced. Direct conversation should be allowed. Both parties are going to be loyal. The price is already quite affordable. No one needs "to go around the third party".

    Great point about leisure. Gary, you say all the time that you don't read about business, or pay attention to other business leaders to "learn" their way of operating because your intuition is so strong. Agreed. For you. I get a ton from this show, but should I stop watching to go work on my passion? Should I devote some time (like an hour of my extra four or five) to learning and the rest to the hustle? Can you make the case that watching the Sunday night Jets game isn't leisure because you want to buy the team one day? Are the Jets your House of Cards?

    Spend 10 years in art school+art academy+hours of hours of practice and sell your thing for 5 dollars? This is so disrespectful. Looking at the site I though it was a joke. ''I will telepathically read someones mind'' for the same 5 dollars. Clearly it's that type of joke there no one is laughing.

    • @theLadydraw
      @theLadydraw 8 років тому +6

      Fortunately I didn't have to pay. But thanks for asking your question. Even if I have paid it's not the variable here. And I didn't mention talent as a winning part in this game. It's all about TIME. Business like Fiverr basically lowers the quality of the ''artsy based product'' looking at the only variable -the money. Yes I am better. But to be better takes TIME and many hours of practice. And I don't support that it should be underestimated. And most of the times if you want to buy cheap product for your company, just keep in mind that most likely it will also make your company look cheap.

      I agree with you, but what really counts at the end are your skills. The academy you went to, how much you paid for it doesn´t make you a better artist. If you´re good at what you do you don´t need to go to sites like fiverr anyway. I think what Garry means, is that this is one of many ways to get into the market and promote yourself if you´re new, but I really doubt you can make a decent living out of it in the long run...

    • @theLadydraw
      @theLadydraw 8 років тому +4

      +Chris Walkman I fully agree with you and the message Gary sends. That's also a reason my other comment was - I would rather do art for free to build a portfolio or extend network than sell out for 5 dollars. :)

    • @RobertoBlake
      @RobertoBlake 8 років тому +2

      +Goda Juskevi That is exactly what you should do and I'm not kidding. It would be better to give that time to yourself and the building of your career and business than to trade it for that amount. There are far more people underpricing their skills and services than overpricing. And all those Fiverrs who built a 6 Figure income I have nothing against them or how they made their money...I just think that they cashed out too cheap and don't realize they probably could have made more money owning the relationship and selling to an even higher level market with that level of abilitiy, they just didn't want to do marketing...

    I'll join the don't use Fiverr club. Gary made the analogy that his talks are worth 10x more because he's better. It's the same with Fiverr. Pay someone $10 for some design work, and you're going to get a rushed pile of shit in return. Fiverr commodities services that otherwise require a lot of skill, lowering the barrier to entry so that any Joe Schmoe can earn money for their crappy work.

  • @johntiller4681
    @johntiller4681 6 років тому

    I agree that businesses who need quick turnarounds at cheap prices benefit from using services like this, in terms of cost. In relation to graphic design in particular however, you're not necessarily getting quality output. When clients frequently use these sites, they approach other freelancers or agencies outside of them, and realise that if they expect quality work, with quick turnaround time, it's going to be a greater investment. Design doesn't just look nice, it solves business problems and can have an impact on your business's ROI. For example, a considered and strategic brand identity design can inspire customer loyalty, leading to repeat or increased sales, or perhaps a web design might include a marketing strategy, leading to more conversions or increased click through rates. On the other hand, with a single logo design for instance, since the client pays little money, they're more likely to take for granted the worth of an informed logo mark to a business. By contrast, a strategically thought out brand identity system (including logo) would give the client a visual voice they can confidently use to do business under. I think you get what you pay for.

    I love this show (watching since esp 001) and have a rule against negative comments, but this is your Oxygen Gary so I wanted to give feedback.
    It is so apparent how desperate this guest is to pitch Fiverr. We get it. There is such noticeable tension between your normal "Jabs" and this guy making "Right hooks". Past guests like Casey and Godin have been awesome, but some of these people simply can't keep up with you and the "SHOOOOOW"
    So this more of a compliment in saying that you are the best at this, and the guests make that apparent.

    I know too many companies who have been sued over artwork they thought they owned through Fiverr only to find out the "artist" they hired scalped work from a skilled designer. By both other companies who have the branding trademarked, etc, and by the original artists themselves.

    • @RobertoBlake
      @RobertoBlake 8 років тому

      +Sara Westman That is a big problem and it has to do with the rise of Fiverr in the first place. Creatives are not educating themselves about business (college doesn't help with this, but at least you get a class or two in copyright) and added to that many creatives don't believe in marketing themselves because they are handed "the work will sell itself" from professors who never sold anything and couldn't compete in the creative marketplace today if they tried. Clients also are not being educated, and creatives are not going out of their way to educate them.
      You'll hear a lot of creatives making videos about how Fiverr hurts them, but not how it potentially effects the client...

    What a complete plank! Fiver disrespects all of the hard work that true creatives put into design, and leaves it open for people to pump out meaningless crap. Stop touching the poor guy and don't interrupt it's rude.

    • @RobertoBlake
      @RobertoBlake 8 років тому +2

      +Edith Costello I used to believe that, then I thought about it...Burger King doesn't devalue Cookout or In and Out Burger just because they are cheap and convenient. They are meant to serve different markets.
      As a creative every client that goes to Fiverr is saving you time and money because what they value is not aligned to how you work. Those are not the relationships you are meant to have.
      Imagine being upset because a really cheap guy, or guy that doesn't recognize the value of a long term relationship, decides to date someone else? Are you going to be mad, or happy you dodged the bullet?
      As a creatives we need to understand that this doesn't impact us nearly as much as we think if we are positioning ourselves and marketing ourselves to right people.
      Trust me, companies playing for high enough stakes are not interested in hiring a designer or getting legal services from Fiverr (yeah they offer that on the site too). So stop worrying about it, you'll be fine if you have the chops and the right target market.
      If I was trying to get $100 for album cover designs instead of $Xk for visual branding and $XK for campaigns, then I might be concerned...
