How to set up Diff Pinion Shaft Bearings for a Land Rover Series 2 in under 15 minutes!

Using the land rover series 2 diff as an example I show the viewer how to measure the pinion height so that the pinion gear will mesh with the crown wheel correctly using slip gauges and a ground steel bar. I then explain and demonstrate the whole process I use to set up the pinion shaft pre load on the Rover diff Pinion bearings.

Its a kennedy torque wrench, sold by Cromwell Tools :)

Very usefull! Just puzzled by the Landrover books about the Rationalized axle/diff and Pre-Rationalised axle/diff. So which height to use, 38.1 or 39.5mm? Any thought how to differ the two?

It is my understanding that rationalized = 24-spline diff and pre rationalized = 10-spline diff. I hope that helps

@@HalfJobGeorge that seems about right, also some say the rationalized has metric carrier bearings and the pre-rationalized has imperial carrier bearings. I think your understanding is the right one! Thanks!
