Still a very favorite movie! I still feel like my heart is breaking for Emma Thompson's character when she discovers her husband ( my Favorite actor of all times, the late Alan Rickman) gives the necklace to Mia instead of her. Still cry with her after all these years!!
@@rondamorris3550 correct, Neeson was just a friend. She wasn't cold, good friends should feel free to tell each other to bugger off and call at a better time, she didn't have time at that moment to go into a lengthy discussion, but you can see later when here together they're very good friends.
@@Bamcis100 really?? She has a family with two young children and her friend (not brother) is calling her every 5 minutes because his wife just died. I don't think she was being "mean" to him at all! I agree, Nadia. I am glad they took out the filming of the porn scene, I understand what the director was trying to say, but the beauty and purpose of the movie does not need that.
Thanks for all these interesting tidbits. Love Actually is now almost 20 years old and I estimate I must have seen it at least 40 times - each year, I would either watch it (I have it on a DVD) in November and/or it would be on TV at Christmas, and some years, it's on TV multiple times. I will never tire of it. As Emma Thomson's character says: "A true love lasts a lifetime!"
One of my favourite Christmas movies! Thank you for these fascinating tidbits. The scene I love most is Rowan Atkinson absolutely insisting that the necklace be beautifully presented with lavender sprigs and Alan Rickman's kind of laconic anxiety that he was going to be caught.
This is still one of my favorite movies of all time. Great script, amazing casting/acting, full range of emotions get expressed and felt on screen. Runner up: The Family Stone.
My absolute favorite scene in Love Actually takes place in the airport when the little girl finds young Sam, gives him a kiss, and the look of pure joy/ecstasy/success appears on his face as he walks then runs and jumps into Daniel's arms. Every time, a smile breaks out on my face. Thomas Sangster was such a good little actor and went on to do some impressive acting in future films.
I can not watch this movie without a box of tissues by me every time Liam Neeson is on screen. When this movie was made he was happily married to Natasha Richardson. Now he is a widower in real life having lost the love of his life in that tragic ski accident. The pain in Daniel's eyes you can now see in Liam's eyes in real life.
I'm a little late with this but Billy Mack's character does have a connection to the rest because his nude performance distracts the airport security so Sam can get by. It's small, but still...
Thanks for reviewing Love Actually. It was such a wonderful and thoughtful as well as thought provoking movie. It had many of my very favorite actors, some familiar and others delightfully and previously unknown to me. I’ve only seen the original about four times to date, but it remains a favorite that I will see at least once a year...
Our favorite Christmas movie is Stubby Pringle's Christmas. It was a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie in 1978 with such classic actors such as Julie Harris and Strother Martin. Good luck finding it. For some reason, Hallmark has never released it on DVD. Sometimes you can find a private seller. It is funny yet captures the heart of Christmas both with the message and the mood. A lovely feeling pervades it.
I actually thought it fitted her character much better this way. Karl and her are the only ones who have zero chemistry (at least in my eyes). Karl is far to shallow for her. He is exactly someone you have a crush from far away but they seem to have nothing on common. And I really liked the storyline that love is not just romantic love but also love for family and friends.
MY favorite movie, watch it every year and always see something new. This was the first time we realized the Claudia Schiffer connection! So many creative little private jokes and choices like this. Thanks for all the info! Can you still see that 2017 update?
We look forward to watch this super sweet and charming movie every Christmas. Yes, some of the storylines are silly and some didn’t age well … but I and help to just love this film.
I love " Love Actually", but my all-time Christmas fav. is the old black & white film "Holiday Inn'-- stars Fred Astair & Bing Crosby. SO CORNY... but I luv it.
The final scene from Cinema Paradiso (which inspired the wedding footage) is so emotional for me that I literally got choked up seeing a few seconds get included in this video.
Just finished watching this movie again. Dunno how many times seen it. So damn good. My xmas favorite #1. I one year bought a whole pile of this movie on DVD and gave them away as Xmas presents to all of my friends.. Can't watch it without tearing up.. Sucha damn fine movie....Yeaah....😉
One favorite Christmas movie is REMEMBER THE NIGHT, starring Barbara Stanwyck and Fred McMurray. Lots of implausibilities in the premise and plot, but undeniably lovely emotion and performances.
Love the movie and thanks for the backstories. I thought Colin Firth went to Portugal, to the US in this movie. He went to the US in Bridget Jones Diary.
@@christybradfield7812 I have no idea. More importantly, to be fair, I have no idea which came first - this video or the trivia - there's just a lot of overlap.
Sarah Jessica Parker plays a similar character in that to the one she plays in SATC as Carrie. She is quite selfish but her boyfriend's family isn't very accommodating.
@@lemsip207 Do you think she's selfish? I don't see it that way. She's a bit gauche and uptight but ultimately is a more decent person than much of the family who looks down on her. I love the Luke Wilson character she ends up with.
My favorite Christmas movie is The Desk Set with Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. The exchange of goofy gifts, the office party, the wet night in Bunny’s 15:00 apartment, and of course the roof scene. What’s not to love!
I love DESK SET so much! When Spencer Tracy gives Katherine Hepburn that rooftop intelligence test, and she makes him look like an idiot... love it! "Never assume!"
Thank you, Jeff Terrell, you are a delightful (and dutiful) movie maven. I just subbed & followed your Twitter too. Let me start by asking you a tough qn. Can you uncover the title of a 1959-era B&W released US film about a teen boy (Paul Anka/Sal Mineo lookalike) obsessed with a girl/woman which ends badly. If I recall correctly, it's he who ends up face down in her backyard pool. Can't find it on IMDb. Title options would be enough. TY
We saw Atonement a few years later and I told my friend that Keira Knightly had been in Love Actually and she didn't believe me. She was only in a few scenes as it was about several stories with the characters connected to each other like in Short Cuts.
Keira was in Bend It Like Beckham which came out a year before Love Actually. She plays the good friend of an Indian woman living in London with her family. The two young women dream of playing professional soccer, but the Indian woman encounters resistance from her very traditional parents who feel women have no business playing sports. It’s a great movie and Keira and the lead actress were wonderful in it. Highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it yet. It’s just a real treat.
It’s not generally showing on regular television because the actor who speaks with the Chinese accent is considered offensive to the Chinese people and a form of bigotry so it is not generally shown in the United States although I have seen it listed several times on Peacock
