  • We take on building a tiny house/overnighter structure on a recycled junk yard 25' Bentley pontoon boat! There were various struggles to get a good set of pontoons and under-deck structure. One had water in the tubes that could be removed, possibly in a chamber, and then another boat, the Sylvin had a cracked pontoon which the welder did not want to guarantee, so ended up with the Bentley you saw in the field. I am going to try to upload every other Thursday till it's finished!! Stay tuned!

    I built pontoons for 15 years we put tire air valves and put 2 pounds of air in the tubes and used a simple soapy water solution to spray on pontoons to check for leaks the welds can also leak if not
    welded properly I was a tube welder.

    I’d have added midship cleats for spring lines. Anyhow, looking forward to the build!

    I watched the entire series and kept thinking, the plan would change along the way. There is no way to start the motor, steer the boat, get to the back deck, nor go to the bathroom, so in reality it is a floating dock with a useless motor.

      Thanks for watching the series!! At the moment, we are using the Toon as a themed guest quarters, and has been working out nicely. Going to make some fold down aluminum side walkways and a remote operational engine control so we can go overnight on other islands.

    I worked at Manitou pontoon boats we made a dual engine 27 ft model I allways wanted to build one just the flat deck and put a 20ft shed on it and make it a house boat and it's dual engine model could support dual Mercury 450 HP engines I was thinking about solor power and mabe a testla power wall to support living on it full time only concern would be traveling with it as it would be really Tall

    Looking nice i will be following the build. I built mine on a 28' Sun tracker. It had 28" diameter toons. Subbed!

    Why don’t pontoons have 10 psi in them all the time? Even a 12v mini-compressor to keep it at 10 psi. Set up like air shocks on a car or motorcycle…

      Great idea, just install a schrader valve and go. However the pressure would not make it more buoyant. Would still float the same. Hower, you could put in a pressure gauge and monitor the pressure I guess.

    Id love to follow along! I would like to do this too but I cant find a boat yet.

      Ted, a lot of crusty boats out there with good tunes. Be sure to inspect the toons well, float test and if they have plugs, or access, pressure test them w some portable air. Also, if there are big temp swings, you can uncork them and they will blow out air or suck it in. Not hard to do. Best of luck and keep us posted!

    Ever think that those pontoons are separate chambers inside and are not chambered together, so drains will be just the end chambers that could drain if comprimised, unless the on i had was different then the majority of pontoons, for just that reason ! Redundancy. One gets poked all don't leak and sink!

      True! Haven't had any issues. I have seen both designs. Unsure about these. This is a 2001 Bently Smoker Craft.

    wow! Where do you get the banding, corners, floor? Super nice

    • @classicperformance
      @classicperformance  5 місяців тому

      check out www.pontoonstuff.com for anything pontoon. They have a variety of corners, banding trim, flooring, etc. The flooring is marine plywood. Don't use anything treated as it will react with aluminum and eat the aluminum turning it into dust. Thanks for your interest! It's a fun project!

    Why don't you air test those pontoons for like 2 weeks. If there's any holes in the tops of those pontoons you'll never know it

    • @classicperformance
      @classicperformance  10 місяців тому

      Yes, I ended up doing that after it came out of the water (by accident). Since the temperature changed the toons pressurized. Upon pulling each plug, the pressurized air came out with a woosh! Test complete!

    well, sad to see that all the juicy parts of a DIY project are ignored in this vid. costs, how it was done, how it was found, all the things I look for in this kind of video were ignored. :(

      Well you can tell by the fact he didn't have a rope tied to that pontoon boat he will be lucky if it floats.

      Not the best how to video I’ve watched. Case in point; we segued to suddenly shiny pontoons and went from plywood being installed to, the deck is magically finished and we’re at the lake for a “float test”. Someone’s never heard of pressure testing, I guess.
      I’m out. 🤷🏻‍♂️
