The Raid is an Indonesian action martial art film directed by Gareth Evans. One of the best action director in this era. This and the sequel are both some of the most intense and violent martial arts movies ever made so far. It pretty much changed how people used to see action and lots of big action films these days like John wick, winter soldier, Arrow and Deadpool took inspiration from The Raid films. The martial arts style thats being used here is called Pencak silat. Its an indonesian martial art style thats using almost every body parts as a weapon. It may look like less flashier than most of martial arts form. But its one of the most deadliest martial arts style known out there
The reason why The Raid may feel a bit "Incomplete" as a concept, is because it was made out of necessity. The Director, Gareth Evans wrote a story called BERANDAL (The Thug), but wasnt granted enough of a budget to make that movie. He wrote a story using some of the same characters that could be made on a much smaller budget, which became this movie. The Success of The Raid entrusted financeers to grant Evans the budget he needed for his intented vision, which allowed him to make the movie Berandal, more popularly known as THE RAID 2.
The Raid movie is one of the best martial arts films of all time (even being one of the favorite films for Justice League director Jack Sneider, Samuel El Jackson and several other Hollywood actors) thanks to the film the Raid the actors have now played a lot on the Hollywood scene! like : 1. Yayan Ruhian (Mad dog) he played in the film star wars, beyond sky line and Jhon wick parabelum with Keanu Reeves. 2. Joe Taslim (sergeant Jaka) played in the film star trek beyond, fast and furious 6 and mortal kombat as sub zero 3. Iko Uwais (Rama), the main actor in the Raid, plays in star wars, beyond sky line, Stuber, Snake eyes, mile 22, and the Expendables 4 as the main enemy!
The Raid film applies a fighting style with a typical Indonesian martial art, namely pencak silat. and is now widely used in Hollywood film standards, such as the latest film The Batman (Robert Pattinson) in his interview he said that the action in the batman film applies the style of martial arts or pencak silat martial arts like in the Raid film.
