You guys worked on the presumption that it was an equal 10% of the 10 barrels.... ....since they mix and blend to create a consistent taste and each produces different amounts I'm sure the actual percentages are wildly different.
I'm glad you used graduated cylinders because drop-out cylinders are gauche. Also Sara, in CA police jargon, a "B-girl" references 647(b) of the Penal Code. So....I'll force my mind to steer towards a "B-ourbon girl" because I do not want to besmirch your innocent essence. Overall it was a fun experiment to watch, reinforcing the art of blending.
I'd love to find that sampler "master blender" kit, and play around with different recipes and proportions. That would be a fun game to have people mix their own blends and have a third person decide which is better.
Did this once about six years ago on a kentucky trip, going to distillery, liquor barn and cork dorks in Tennessee. Got single barrel picks of all ten. Did taste through, ended up making 4 bottles of cask strength even proportions of all ten bottles. Still have 2 left, will send a sample on our next shipment to you.
@ItsBourbonNight yes it is, I think I got 3 or 4 at the distillery back then, I don't think they have any now. Liquor barn and cork dorks had literally stacks of cases.
We only get three variations of four roses here 🙁 I may be new to whisky but the frother might not have been the right tool the aeration changes the nose and flavour (just a bit). It is a small change but a change just the same. If you don't believe me try a blind single pour one frothed and one not and see if you can see a different. Do it for each other so you don't get influenced. Have fun might make a good sneaky episode can you pick your favorite around 1 Apr.
I was thinking the same thing as most of the viewers that $130- $150 price is too much but be honest every time I go in the store and I want to get any special releases It's over $200 easy in my area, I really love single barrel solid for $40, I think with this set you paying for experience and it's awesome. Personally a lot better than Blanton's for $200. Cheers and thank you!
Oooooooooooo.... only made it to the mixing part so far and stoked to see how it goes. Already wondering what it would be like doing the same with all ten of the single barrel barrel proof versions?!?
Do you think distilleries are generally proud of their 80-proof offering or is it more likely that Four Roses selected every good barrel for their more premium blends and single barrels, then blends everything left over into the bottom shelf label?
Tough to say. You don’t really see the entry level offerings like their 80 proof at festivals because they know you and I aren’t that audience, but they make it because lots of people won’t spend over$25 for a bourbon and also don’t like anything with a “burn”. So the distillery sure loves the money it brings in and are proud of that!
Cool product but bad price. You're getting 33% less bourbon for 66% more price than a single barrel barrel proof. Basically, you are paying 250% more per ml
I really like the OESV and have been hunting for a bottle. While in LEX this week, I was unable to find that specific bottle but did pick up an OBSO from the gift shop. It also is outstanding.
Awesome video and conclusions. Funny thing, though, since some of us are more "experienced" consumers than others, that we say classify the cheaper choices as "beginner" choices. Not everyone aspires to be aficionados (I think I am but in reality, my tasting skills lack big time), some just want a Bourbon to mix or a cheaper choice. I'm glad to hear that the cheaper choice, while expectedly light, is still good.

I blend my own Small Batch Select Barrel Strength and its delicious.

Having just found my first four roses single barrel barrel strength yesterday in the OESO recipe, this could not have peaked my interest more lol
Love you guys. Keep the awesome stuff coming!
Thank you both for the video 🥃
Its almost as if the master distiller knew what he was doing lol
It would have been interesting to dilute your mix down to 80 proof for a 2nd comparison.
I would break my budget to pick up one of these kits to try each recipe. I try not to spend over $75/bottle. Thanks for the experiment.

Embrace Yellow!
Blantons 50ml runs between $10-$20 so that actually sounds pretty fair for all of that.
Absolutely!

Much harder to get all 10 these days! Haha

Do you have the Spurrier’s Gridiron Grille exclusive Four Roses bottle from 2022?
Actually you ARE supposed to hold the graduated cylinder at eye level when pouring.
I'd rather buy a full bottle of Eagle Rare or Blanton's single barrel or straight from the barrel 😊

I would spend my money on this for sure.
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎

We got to do that in our Beat Brent Elliott episode!

Love this. I’ve been wanting to pick that set up.
Looks like a fun experiment and a nice experience

4:29 Do y'all happen to know why they switched from yellow to beige?
Do they still have this package at the distillery? I’m headed there next month.
Haven’t checked in a little over a week now. If you call they will tell you.
Where are you coming from? These are all over the Chicago area right now
I am in Northern Illinois and see them at most liquor stores.
The only thing I learned from watching this is that I need to buy a milk frother
eh meniscus...ive used that too lol
