Thanks so much Gary! Really appreciate the encouraging words. If you have any feedback on my more recent builds compared to this, would love to hear it... 😊
Great job. It needed a skilled modeler to do that kit justice and you did exactly that! Looks amazing, the photo compilation of the build from beginning to end was great. Thanks for sharing!
Krisan Ludwiczak thank you! It was certainly a difficult decision but I prefer the clean external lines with the cowling closed... the Typhoon has such a distinctive shape!
Good god man, that is astonishing! My second favorite British WW2 aircraft next tot he Mk1a Spit. The detail is incredible, especially the center box section comprising the cockpit and the main spars. You're an artist.
Thank you so much Vince! If you’re interested, I did a Spitfire Mk.1a in a smaller scale a few years ago: ua-cam.com/video/Sm11pkd6kiE/v-deo.html Kind regards! Justin
what an awesome kit. Airfix did a great job with the cockpit detail and inner wing structures. great build and paint too. it's nice to have a document of what it looks like before you closed'er up.
Magnificent.. beautifully done. I have been looking longingly at this but fear that perhaps now my eyesight might not be up to it.? Hmmmm.. Very well done.. thank you.
Very kind of you to say Billbo! I would say that the kit is huge and detail so clear that it is probably one of the better kits for those whose eyesight is not what it once was..
Cheers mate! I've had a few bad experiences decanting rattle cans in the past but I'm sure you're right that it's a more efficient way to do things with kits this big. I tend to prefer 1/48 scale partly for that reason... :-)
This kit is now supplied with an additional set of decals. In the Airfix 2021 catalogue it shows that the Typhoon can be modeled as a captured aircraft in German markings. I read after that that the Germans had two Typhoons they used for testing. The underneath and tail planes on upper side were painted yellow as was common with captured Allied aircraft captured and tested by the Nazis. I think the German one makes an interesting model, and an unusual one.
YESSIR! That was awesome. I had no idea Arifix made such nice kits. Not to belittle this modelers excellent work. He's a way better modeler than I am. Very nice indeed. Thank you for posting
Thanks Guido! If you’re interested, check out some of my more recent videos - have improved a fair bit in the three years or so since I made this big ol’ Typhoon 😊
Just got this kit today. Any tips or advice you can pass along? Did you get any aftermarket bits for it? I'm thinking of getting the Eduard PE kit for it and maybe an aftermarket instrument panel.
Juan C Melendez hi there! I built this one straight out of the box. To be honest the only bit I really think would be worth getting resin or PE for are the wheels. The front cowlings need a bit of work to make flush if you’re going for them closed up but I don’t think aftermarket stuff can help there. Generally it’s got excellent detail OOB. Hope that helps?
Just building the car door version of this model! It is a nightmare I've been @ it for about 10hrs and haven't glued a thing together, just scraping, filing, filling and sanding. Don't get me wrong it is one hell of a kit just full of flash and miss matched seam lines. I feel like I've sculpted the engine bay/cockpit myself, I just hope I can do as good a job as BritFlyer has done! GB :)
John Davey very kind of you to say mate - much appreciated! I know it’s cheesy AF but would be interested in what you reckon to my more recent builds, just because I did this one two years back and interested if effects have improved with practice?
@@rifledude303 l'll have a look at some of your more recent builds. I have a number of unbuilt cars , some are 50+ years old. Oh my god :)) that's brilliant, if i would make something like that and someone would destroy it i would go to prison, or if i had kids and they would play with it, i would sell them.
Great job! I see you use Model Air. I have a question. What varnish do you use to cover the paint and then be able to weathering with oils?Does it use 0.3? Have you had problems with clogging or splashing with this painting?very thanks!
Hi Jose, thank you. I can’t remember for this particular build as it was a long time ago. However, for many years I’ve been using Mr Color Super Clear III as a gloss varnish between steps, diluted about 1 part varnish to 2.5/3 parts Mr Levelling Thinner. It sprays down very smooth and ‘wet’ with a thin coat, is very resilient for weather stages, is a great base for decals etc. I normally spray it through a 0.2 or 0.3mm airbrush nozzle.
Magnificent work. Your modelling skills are fabulous. I wish that you could give me tuition. I can only dream about being able to build a kit like that.
My Uncle, yes he is still alive, flew these. I asked him about the canons, he said "they made the plane jolt" he preferred the machine guns. Also, I asked him "do you attack the tanks from the rear, as tanks that was the weakest point", "No, front on".
Sorry about the late reply. Yes he is a lucky fellow, 183 Squadron - they had a Repro Spitfire in his home town, he was Guest of Honour. He sat in it for about 10 mins and his Grandsons help in out, when asked how was it, he could only say "I lost so many friends". He flew Spitfires, Hurricanes and Typhoons.
I've got this Typhoon and the Mosquito in my shed 'waiting for the day' - you've done a marvellous job, my friend and I'm going to plagiarise some of your techniques. The only question I'd pose is this: why seal up the engine detail? Such a great kit and well presented, seems a shame to blot out this great aspect.
Eoin Campbell; you’ve made my day, thank you! It’s a preference thing I suppose...I agonised long and hard but the Typhoon is such a distinctive shape that I decided to go for a ‘clean lines’ build. WOOD BUTCHER hi there, great to hear you’re putting so much into a build of this monster! In the invasion stripes bit, I actually did an unnecessary first step - just mask off the edges of the white and black striped area and paint it all white, then you only need to mask up the bits you want to stay white to paint the black. In other words, in this build I masked off the areas that were going to be black when I sprayed the white which I didn’t need to have done.
