They didn't have the videos they have now, the stuff in this video isn't 10% of his every game greatness plays. He was unbelievable and I know, I was there since his college days and all through his pro career. He was amazingly superior, patient and talented against other professional players who appeared at awe when playing against him like high school players watching the GOAT. Bird was tough, smart and talented in every category. He didn't need the media to hype him, he was so great - his game and only his game spoke for him. He was a first in so many things. Remember, it's only a game for entertainment and he was the best at it - making you hold your breath when he took the last shot to win. He made you look forward to the next game, when you knew the Celtics would win. There hasn't been and will never be a player like Bird, one of kind. It was so much fun to watch him play all those years, but haven't seen anyone since. NBA is nothing like it was, it has lost it soul. The players now are created and not born.
Jordan probably the best ever, but Larry more skilled in the complete overall game... had to rely purely on skills without having the freak athleticism of some others. Magic was very similar, but they were the best ever when they retired
You know Larry, and Magic were amazing players. I never seen them play. I grew up when Reggie Miller, John Stockton, Patrick Eweing were playing. Jordan is still my goat, but even as Jordan said long before LeBron was out of middle school, it's hard to say who the greatest is, we play in different eras, and different positions. That's what made Jordan my goat. Jordan has the humility to except he may not be greater than those before him. Without those before you, what do you have to build on?
I don't know that you'll see this, as the video is almost a year old, but the story I've heard it that in high school, Bird worked at a hotel and balled after work with the older black guys he worked with. Its where he learned his high release jump shot and to talk trash the way he did.
Totally agree. I don't like when they describe Bird as a "white" player. Truth is, everyone, black, white, Asian whoever should be studying Larry's game and emulate it.
I was lucky enough to watch these games live. Lived in LA as a Clipper fan. That’s another story. Loved to watch Bird, anytime he was playing. The heart he had, doesn’t really exist in the new NBA.
I've been an NBA fan since the mid 1970's and coached youth basketball for years. My personal top 5 are: 1. Michael Jordan, 2. Larry Bird, 3. Magic Johnson, 4. Kobe Brant, 5. Julius Irving. I’ve seen everyone over the last 45+ years. IMO, these players had the best BALANCE of FG%, FT%, clutch play, great offense, great defense, makes teammates better, great team play, shares the ball, passing ability, finishing, coachable, high basketball IQ, finds a way to win, has all areas of the basic fundamentals down pat, seeks high % shots first, knows where teammates are on the court at all times, able to score while being fouled, played against tougher competition, played against great defenses. No one today (not even Lebron, and that he flops brings down his value) has ALL of these attributes. To me, only Michael Jordan and Larry Bird have ALL of these attributes. Though today's players have a lot of talent, most players lack most of these attributes and no one has all of them. Defense and team play aren’t nearly as good today as in the 80’s/90’s. Great video. You did a good job.
If I remember correctly. Charles Barkley once said something like this. "Making Larry Bird slow and giving him a bad vertical was Gods way to keep the game fair for the rest." I'm only paraphrasing so don't @ me.
All of the Making the Case videos are really good. I'm with you on that Michaels the goat, but there are other players with a legitimate case, and all of them deserve to have their cases heard fairly, and Clayton does a great job at giving 8 players legitimate cases.
I thought it was in as a 19 yr old basketball And Bird fan I would’ve swore it was going in. I was in complete shocked he missed it. I couldn’t believe he missed it.
LT great segment! But as far as MJ, yes he had a lot of championships. Yes he was clutch and had amazing athletic abilities. However MJ’s success occurred in the final years of Bird’s and many other greats careers. For this reason as well as all the reasons you have already documented, Larry Bird is the GOAT of NBA basketball!
Loved your reaction and love your open mindedness. Michael Jordan was great, but Larry Bird is my GOAT not by a little, by a lot. He was the best all-around basketball player that ever lived. As I have said before, he is a once in a lifetime gift from the basketball gods… He was born to play basketball and he did it better than anyone else. As others have mentioned, he would come down the court and tell the opponents where he was going to shoot from and he would do it. I was blessed to have been able to watch him in real time during the 80s. I was a Knicks fan, but when Larry came to town and any chance I had to watch a Celtics game I was glued to the TV. Anytime Larry played it was an event and you knew you were watching greatness. 🍀🐐

No one can be sure who's the goat. Saying that, people can say who is their goat, and that's fine by me. I'm happy to see someone passionate about their goat. Larry is, and probably always be, my goat. I loved watching him play. It was exciting. You never knew what he would pull off. He was fun to watch. Larry Bird and John Elway were my favorite sports guys to watch. I miss them still.
A white guy from the country have more in common than me and a black guy and the suburbs. I've been feeling like shit lately, and that was the first thing that made me smile this week. Thank you for this. -- Watching the rest of your shit today.
Awesome, video reaction, LT! I especially like your insightful take on the current "Obiden" regime's scheme. Obiden's appointees have implemented a 'divide and conquer' scam, by using race as a weapon against all who dare oppose them by thinking for themselves. You're clearly a smart dude who's extremely competent in the art of independent thought. Plus, you're funny as hell! And yes, I believe that Larry Bird is one of the true GOAT's--there are, of course many others from many eras.
he played most of the time in pain from an injured back . His family struggled to get by when he was growing up and he carried the pain of his dad's suicide . His dad felt that since he was a veteran his family could collect on his benefits
Bill Murray said "Larry Bird isn't White... he's Clear!" in Space Jam. 😂 Check that out again if you haven't seen it in a while. Bird and Jordan are in a bunch of it.
You might like to look up "Pistol Pete" Maravich. He once scored 68 points in a game back before there was a 3pt line. It's been calculated that if he had played after the 3pt line he would have had a career average of 52 pts a game.
Pistol Pete was a great scorer and passer, and a good rebounding guard. But his defense? Well, most of the time, The Pistol couldn't guard a two-toed sloth in or near the paint. And this is probably why nobody tosses Pistol's name around when talking about the GOAT's.
There have been alot of great players over the years but i think LT is right, i dont think any one player can be called "the goat".However,i believe there is a goat club so to speak and Larry Bird is a card carrying member.
Your description of being the GOAT in five or seven years is basically a description of Gale Sayers' NFL career. If you mess with US football you should check it out. ;-)
Another great video Southside L.T. except that LARRY LEGEND BIRD is the greatest of ALL-TIME besides his game play he saved basketball and you're right longevity doesn't mean shitt if you didn't produce major accomplishments so keep up the great work you killing it
I would say that Michael and Bill Russel had the best careers in NBA history but I have Larry as the greatest skilled player to ever play the game in my book. That's with no disrespect towards Michael at all because he was a incredibly skilled player but the 90's was a downgrade from the previous era in terms of super teams and talent in my opinion. If you took Michael's 96 Bulls team and put them in the 80's Michael doesn't win 6 rings.
Jordan had a mix of athleticism and skill that few have ever came close to. There have been super athletic players.... super skilled... but he was high on both. I do think Larry Bird's skill level was one of the highest ever. That with the untangible trait of being clutch and his competitiveness being so high is what separated him from the pack.
I totally agree growing up poor poor makes us more alike then race does. If you grew up poor I think it makes you a stronger person then one of privilege
Love this video, and great reaction man! The one thing this video doesn't talk much about was how LB played hurt for a lot of his career.onw of my favorite LB moments was the playoff game against the Pacers where LB takes a spill and slams his face on the floor, fracturing his cheekbone. He left the game and the Pacers came back and started to run away with the game. LB reentered the game with a broken face, black eye and all. The Boston Garden crowd went nuts and it electrified the whole team and the C's roared back behind the injured Bird to win the game. Classic!

Magic was very similar, but they were the best ever when they retired
like your prospective on basketball agree with a lot of same things look up the larry bird growing up crazy
Loyalty to team with championships also makes you a GOAT
Both Larry & Magic saved the nba.
“We painted him white!”
Best laugh in a while. Thanks
No problem hope you join the family
Great reaction man, stay safe and God bless always, watching from the Phillipines
"That's a brotha we painted white"😂 I'm dying.
Larry's clear.😂 Goooood video!! You crack me up!😂😂
To me, Michael Jordan may have been the most athletically gifted but Larry was in almost every category the singular player in NBA history.
I don't know that you'll see this, as the video is almost a year old, but the story I've heard it that in high school, Bird worked at a hotel and balled after work with the older black guys he worked with. Its where he learned his high release jump shot and to talk trash the way he did.
The Dream Team picture with Larry, Magic and MJ is symbolic. You notice MJ is resting on their shoulders, that was an intent of the photographer.
Bird is goat. The General has spoken.
Bird was as good as anybody who ever played the game.
Totally agree. I don't like when they describe Bird as a "white" player. Truth is, everyone, black, white, Asian whoever should be studying Larry's game and emulate it.
" a brother we painted white!"
Thank you for the best laugh of the week!
I was lucky enough to watch these games live. Lived in LA as a Clipper fan. That’s another story. Loved to watch Bird, anytime he was playing. The heart he had, doesn’t really exist in the new NBA.
Loved the reaction :)
He's my goat. My top 5 all 4 different reasons so not rated in order. Bird,Dominique, MJ, KOBE AND RUSSELL
I agree with you 100% with your longevity and you never seen Larry cry to the refs. He took care of it himself
Facts
Pistol Pete?
"Longevity means nothing if you did not use that time the right way."
Facts.
Check out 5 times Larry Bird was hurt and refused to quit
One player of all time, I like Pete Maravich check him out came out of LSU late 60s
I love your reactions. 😁
Thank you
A painted white brother? I FUCKING LOVE THAT!!!!!
11:50 I subbed for funny laugh and shit, you dropping knowledge all of sudden ! Love it
You were right, it WAS Dennis Rodman on the Pistons
I couldn’t see the numbers I was unsure
I am with you on longevity means crap. I will stand by Barry Sanders is the best running back of all time even if he retired in his prime.
Birds work ethic is what brought him his career ending injury - he was installing a driveway for his mother....
I’ve been binging your videos since I found you yesterday 1/20/2023 and THANK YOU FOR ALL THESE & your comments and AWESOME reactions. I am a 1st Responder and it’s been nuts so haven’t been able to comment EXCEPT a quick few seconds. I do watch all to the VERY END and just THANK YOU FOR BEING AN AMAZING HUMAN!!!!!!!! It comes through the screen and not sure yet where you are from but you have a fan and cheerleader and backup with this girl here from basically Jackson, MS. I GREW UP there and live right outside of it now about 10 minutes from the airport BUT where I work ESPECIALLY our strip on I-20 is CRAZY and just PERIOD the times we live in and ALL AND I MEAN ALL THE CRAZINESS OF THE LAST FEW YEARS and what it’s truly upsetting me and hurts to see people treat each other the way they do now. BUT HAS BEEN THAT WAY UNFORTUNATELY SINCE ADAM &EVE. I JUST TRY TO BE A GOOD EXAMPLE AND HELP BEST WAY I KNOW HOW. I have more to say and sorry this is long but after like 10-15 videos I HAD to say something. I just love people no matter how they are!!!!!! But you have cheered me up so much just all you have said and everything and I like longer reactions so wish I had found you sooner. Stupid algorithms lol
Let's vote for VINSANITY as the G.O.A.T., baby!!!!!!!!!!
He going to come back and play till he's 73.
Can't like this vid enough. Much love for your respect of Larry.
I subscribed as soon as you said that it don't matter how many years you played. If you dominate while you can play you gotta case as G.O.A.T
Ayeee that drip of a drifting racer let me find it out my man🔥🔥🔥
PD: an injury doesn't care about if u have longevity, cases: Tracy Mcgrady, Vince Carter, kobe, Dwight, D Rose, Chris Bosh, Grant hill, Yao Ming and the list goes on
On a note later I loved your description of "taking the skin off" or some such. According to historical record we all came outta Africa!
Watch the scene where Boston fans storm the court again. watch Larry, he pushes and punches his way through the crowd to get off the floor!!! :) LOL. imagine being the Celtics fan that got trucked by your idol LARRY LEGEND.. hahaha.
So funny!!! You are 110% right!!! Bird used to get mad and insulted when opposing coaches put "white" defenders on him!!!!!!!!!!!
Bird owned MJ while when they played!
Great reaction lots of respect
Bet
Pistol Pete was a great scorer and passer, and a good rebounding guard. But his defense? Well, most of the time, The Pistol couldn't guard a two-toed sloth in or near the paint. And this is probably why nobody tosses Pistol's name around when talking about the GOAT's.
@@JosephLupoli Except me, I guess... Agree to disagree.
Wilt didn’t have a three point line but he averaged 50 points a game. Granted Wilt would not have take too many 3 pointers.
Thank you for nailing it right on the head privileged versus non-privileged. It's a big club and we ain't in it.
There have been alot of great players over the years but i think LT is right, i dont think any one player can be called "the goat".However,i believe there is a goat club so to speak and Larry Bird is a card carrying member.
Keep up the great work bro. Really enjoy your takes on things. Keep grinding. You right. Larry was painted white, HAHAH
Great reaction! I really enjoyed your other reaction to his ultimate mix tape. See you soon!
Your description of being the GOAT in five or seven years is basically a description of Gale Sayers' NFL career. If you mess with US football you should check it out. ;-)
I always like your comments . Peace !
In the clutch, LBJ has hit 19%, MJ hit 50%, and Idk, but I'd say Bird is even higher!!
You would enjoy all the "Making the Case" videos. The whole series is phenomenally well made
Don't apologise when you are right. All I was thinking was, "Damn! Preach the wisdom of the ages, son"
Another great video Southside L.T. except that LARRY LEGEND BIRD is the greatest of ALL-TIME besides his game play he saved basketball and you're right longevity doesn't mean shitt if you didn't produce major accomplishments so keep up the great work you killing it
Thank you!
Like what you said about Jordan and I agree, he was an artist on the court
@Ken D I wouldn't say that as much as Russell's Celtics were the most stacked ever. Their bench could've started for any NBA team.
No Kareem in there for most successful career?
I totally agree growing up poor poor makes us more alike then race does. If you grew up poor I think it makes you a stronger person then one of privilege
Brah your reaction video so good subbed
Oh my god, I busted up laghing my ass off when he said Larry Bird was painted!
Classic!
I recall when we stayed with my maternal grandmother down in the Ozarks. We literally drank from a bucket and dipper.
...now that you explain it, I guess I know where I get my love if soul food.
Larry Bird is CLEAR!!
