Great tip for recording and live work. Connect guitar to your drive or eq pedals first (compressor volume wah overdrive fuzz distortion etc) then into the Joyo of your choice, after the Joyo go into your delay, modulation and reverb pedals. If any of the last pedals is stereo put that at the end of the chain then run a pair of cables to the PA or recording input for a monster stereo sound. I have had great results using a Mooer Red Truck multi effect using the send and return to insert the American sound between the drive effects and the mod/delay effects then stereo out to PA. If I use amps instead I just switch the Joyo off.
I found when using these with a guitar amp setting the amp EQ in the middle (flat EQ) and adjusting the pedal EQ to taste, these sound very good... worth every penny... great vid Shane....
Shane, I cannot believe how much these pedals sound like their counterparts! I own Fenders and Marshall's I've also owned VOX ac15 and ac30's. They really have all the little foibles of each amp! Great demo great pedals! Thank you for exposing us all to this wonderful company!
I’ve got the British pedal.....I can say the knobs are very sensitive. A small change has a very noticeable effect on the sound. The tone controls are very expressive. 👍
I have the American. With my Strymon I use the joyo for tone leave the strymon saves. I can go to that buttery 70's to Kiss Alive Ace to Angus with just the slightest tone adjustments...besides the sound, the tone controls are excellent.
@@TheMudman01 I thought so. I mostly use these type pedals as a colorful boost or a bit of mild overdrive. SRV had a great - not quite over driven - tone when he played clean. I think these pedals do something similar really well. I sold mine but need to get another one. Didn't like the California pedal.
@@TheMudman01 Dude, the British is absolutely awesome. I set mine for enough gain for Back In Black/good lead tone, and use my volume control (on the guitar) to get cleans... One question that has not been addressed anywhere is how it sounds stacked in front of other pedals. While I know that is not what is is designed for it works just fine using it as a overdrive in the first position or pushing my GV2 over the top. I use three dirt pedals. EH Metal Muff for my new metal heavy D, Marshall GV2 for my meat and potatoes modified Marshall sound and the Joyo British for my overdrive sound. I do use a MXR Smartgate to remove hiss after these, and it does help quite a bit. I'm going to pick up a second just to have as a backup. At the cheap price why not? Rock on :)
I just picked up the American Sound not too long ago, and I absolutely LOVE IT! For the people asking if these pedals can be used with an amp...of course they can, I have a 120 watt Bugera with 200 cab ...I use the American Sound and it sounds absolutely fantastic...there's so much versatility in tone from this pedal, at the price they are being sold, it's really a no-brainer. Awesome vid, I'm thinking I might need to get some AC now haha,
Great comparison. I recently bought the American Sound to beef up the clean tone of my Boss Katana 50. That amp seems very neutral, almost sterile, on clean settings. The Joyo American gives the Katana more character and richness of tone. Now, I'm struggling whether to buy the British or ACtone next. I like bluesy, clean to light/moderate dirty tones.
No,but you can get an idea by finding the tech21 instruction manual. Or just guess. Mind you the joyo units have very sensitive controls, a tiny change had a large effect on tone, that's about the only thing i can find to criticise though.
They are fantastic pedals! I play in a band direct to PA, and use the AC Tone, it sounds fantastic! It slayed the tech21, within 10 seconds I was trying to make the tech21 sound like the joyo; knew the joyo won that battle. Since then I've added a cab sim to it and now the tone is spectacular! I own several nice tube amps, but with these pedals it's so much easier to get the band's balance right.
This was very helpful. I was surprised how much my opinion differed when I went to a shop and tried them in person though. Thought I preferred the British just from the video, ended up buying the AC. Fantastic for the price. Sounds just like a cranked amp!
Joyo never built a copy of the TECH21 Hiwatt clone, the "TECH21 Leeds". So, I bought this pedal and it is great. American (Fender), California (Mesa Boogie), Actone (Vox), British (Marshall) is a money machine, but poor old Hiwatt is nearly forgotten .... :-)
This is ridiculous! Thanks for this great demo! I wanted to buy the Tech 21 Liverpool but I ended up buying the Joyo AC Tone, less money and great sound. Thanks dude!

+Rodrigo Ono The output level of the pedals is about line level, so although it can drive headphones (with level all the way up, as with most pedals) you won't get enough volume. Awesome, Shane! I've been a skeptic due to the fact that, here in the US, Joyo is giving these away at $40 a pop! As a result of this demo, and your great playing, I just ordered these three pedals, as well as the California Sound. I guess those insane prices are a good thing!
Yes, i bring the gain down on my British to use it more like a preamp ar the beginning of my chain. Gives a warm just breaking up tone when i lay into the strings. Play lighter and very clean.

I have the British, the Oxford, the AC Tone, and the American. I didn't really like the California. Too dark for my tastes. But these are awesome pedals. Very useful.
Got all three of these pedals and for recording they are invaluable! The American Sound is by far the best of them followed by the British Sound. Not as fond of the AC Tone but driving the American with the AC Tone can produce amazing drive sounds. Great demo Shane as this is the reason for my purchasing these.
Shane, your comparison is great but I'm looking for the clean sounds compared, and here there's always some dirt on it. I've heard somewhere that the clean sounds are much alike, what do you say?
+UnsFor The "clean" tone or pedal off is line level which sound horrible. They work in "on" mode when you're recording into a sound card. In off mode there's nothing worth listening to. Plug your guitar directly into a sound card and see how it sounds lol ;-)
Not sure if it was revealed, what amp are you playing this thru directly ? In a lot of these videos the amp simulator pedal is demo'ed thru a Fender, Marshall or a Vox and then it's a matter of why would you do that even, you already have the Fender/Marshall/Vox tone. I wanna see how close the pedal actually makes a sub $ 100 solid state practice amp to one of these tube/tube-solid state hybrid amps ?
Hi Shane, So you use the fender reverb pedal AFTER the joyo sim pedal is that right? I thought that the Sim pedal always had to be last in the chain if you are going straight into a PA. Is that wrong? Thanks
Have the AC tone on my board now. Bidding on an American Sound pedal tonight and hope to add it to the board. They're great pedals for the cabbage spent.
Just a little question: this pedals require cab simulation running after them or they are like "plug and play"? Nice video by the way. Really like you channel, Shane. Congrats.
I have both the American and the Oxford tone. They both have something different to offer. The Oxford models an Orange amp. Very clean and can scream , miles prefer it to the British and the American is warmer and solid. Love these pedals. Use a bad monkey to overdrive the colourful sounds of these pedals
Roger That! I would use (and I do use) the American Sound. If you like using the ambient delay and reverbs that are popular in church these days, the American works great.
Rapt In Blue yeah idunno why Roland Jazz Chorus isn't King Of Amps right now. What with your Kempers, Headrush, Helix, and a gagillion other analog and digital amp emulating devices... the whoke point of the Roland is you dial your sound in, and then you can turn the jc up to any level, positively deafening levels, and keep the SAME SOUND crystal clear. It was funny watching an interview of the guy from Helmet talking about how he worked with Fryette on making sure his dense chords didnt turn to mush... all that effort to get what a jc120 would have given him immediately!
WOW! Thanks for the awesome demo! They all sounded excellent, but I think I prefer the American sound. I'm a big fan of Fender amps! I'm definitely going to get that pedal! Hope to see more awesome demos from you! :)
Good demo Shane. Thanks for comparing these but to me they all sound so similar i wouldn't be surprised if you could get near the exact tone of one of the pedals with any of them at non extreme settings using the powerful eq and voice controls. I own a marshall 2203 and vox AC15 TBR ( greenback ) and whilst they do have some of the character of those amps, they don't strike me as that similar. The fender one on the other hand has that fender vibe so i bought that one ( i own a boogie and not a fender so have no comparison there ) but your deluxe A/B was pretty convincing.
How are you powering them - a lot of the reviewers have complained that once you push the gain or voice controls over 3:00 they get a lot of hiss and noise.
Hey Shane. If im not looking to use this solely for amp simulation but rather to add some mid and character to my Vox AC15 hand wired amp would it work well in conjunction with that in the sense of adding the characteristics of the two together? Or would it more so completely take over the natural sounds of my amp?
I guess it would be redundant to run of these through my Fender amp... do you guys think it would be better to run it through something super clean, like a keyboard amp or PA?
Okay, so I’ve been looking at a lot of amp in a box pedal demos recently, and joyo never came up. I just looked up the British models price expecting the usual $250 to $350 price range and found it was less than $70 Canadian... WTF??? Why are these so under represented??

I have the British, the Oxford, the AC Tone, and the American. I didn't really like the California. Too dark for my tastes. But these are awesome pedals. Very useful.
Got all three of these pedals and for recording they are invaluable! The American Sound is by far the best of them followed by the British Sound. Not as fond of the AC Tone but driving the American with the AC
Tone can produce amazing drive sounds. Great demo Shane as this is the reason for my purchasing these.
great demo , may you give suggestion where should put this pedal in the chai ?
at the first or the last ?
thanks
Shane, your comparison is great but I'm looking for the clean sounds compared, and here there's always some dirt on it. I've heard somewhere that the clean sounds are much alike, what do you say?
I use the AC Tone for a clean sound. Love it with any guitar I've put through it. It really gives the VOX chime, even when played clean.
And how did you get your clean sound without the pedals?
+UnsFor The "clean" tone or pedal off is line level which sound horrible. They work in "on" mode when you're recording into a sound card. In off mode there's nothing worth listening to. Plug your guitar directly into a sound card and see how it sounds lol ;-)
intheblues That's because of the high impedance that comes from the guitar's passive pickups. A Direct Box adds the voltage that lows the impedance.
intheblues Yes, it’s the worst sound. Like nails on a chalkboard.
You try the FX amp at the same time as it plugs in, making the cabSIM inside the FX active at the same time.
Which pedal will you recommend if I will use this pedal as a distortion pedal aside from amp sim? Thanks
Does it stimulate the Amp and the cab, or just the Amp head.
The Joyo California Sound has a good tone too.
57 tweed: I have two pedals : TC El MojoMojo and Joyo Am Sound,,,,,what is it about that Fender 57 Tweed?
Hi Shane,
So you use the fender reverb pedal AFTER the joyo sim pedal is that right? I thought that the Sim pedal always had to be last in the chain if you are going straight into a PA. Is that wrong? Thanks
Yes that's wrong. reverb and time delay effects are always run last and generally thru an effects loop if you have.
What about the pedals set to a cleaner tone to give some context?
those are awesome pedals !! I have an Epiphone Riviera Royale Custom p93s, which one u recommend for my guitar?
Have the AC tone on my board now. Bidding on an American Sound pedal tonight and hope to add it to the board. They're great pedals for the cabbage spent.
Just a little question: this pedals require cab simulation running after them or they are like "plug and play"?
Nice video by the way. Really like you channel, Shane. Congrats.
Plug and play
MrPedrorcc Plug and play. No cab sim needed.
optional but i prefer add cab shaper
Good Demo. These seem like pretty good sounding pedals.
Very nice sounding indeed. I ordered the American today. Could you tell us about your recording setup there? Software and signal path stuff. Thanks.
Hey! Would you rather get the Nux Amp Force or a few of these guys? And which two would you recommend?
hi sir shane what is the more high gain the british or the actone..ty
how i can use the british if I use over, delay?? the britsh in the end?? or before the delay?
I own the ACTone and the California and love both, I really wish they made an Orange sim pedal.
Spartanjp308 joyo orange juice is their orange sim, dunno bout the tone tho
Get a tiny terror orange amp ffs
Where to put this in the chain for clean purposes? Right after the guitar?
Think they just came out with one
Wow, they really sound crazy good!
I have both the American and the Oxford tone. They both have something different to offer. The Oxford models an Orange amp. Very clean and can scream , miles prefer it to the British and the American is warmer and solid. Love these pedals. Use a bad monkey to overdrive the colourful sounds of these pedals
For a contemporary worship style, what would you recommend between the American or the AC Tone?
Roger That! I would use (and I do use) the American Sound. If you like using the ambient delay and reverbs that are popular in church these days, the American works great.
These are fantastic in front of a Roland Jazz Chorus amp if anyone is interested. (I use a JC-40).
I have all three, I use them into a cleanish amp for a light overdrive. You want something heavier, kick on a Tubescreamer and the gain is amazing.
Which the most better if get boost by tubescreamer? One of all
And what brand does the California emulate? There are 4, relabled for Thomann music store
The California is for Mesa Boogie tones.
hello shane! if i use them for recording, do i still need to have a speaker impulse response?
How does the joyo british compare to the joyo hot plexi
Good demo Shane. Thanks for comparing these but to me they all sound so similar i wouldn't be surprised if you could get near the exact tone of one of the pedals with any of them at non extreme settings using the powerful eq and voice controls. I own a marshall 2203 and vox AC15 TBR ( greenback ) and whilst they do have some of the character of those amps, they don't strike me as that similar. The fender one on the other hand has that fender vibe so i bought that one ( i own a boogie and not a fender so have no comparison there ) but your deluxe A/B was pretty convincing.
This is a reference video for Joyo pedals. Thanks..
Can it be used as a preamp? 🤔
Yair Alexis Cari Palomino Yes absolutely. Works direct to board and as a preamp through your amp.
shane love the vids, now tell me joyo or tech 21 which is your choice?
How are you powering them - a lot of the reviewers have complained that once you push the gain or voice controls over 3:00 they get a lot of hiss and noise.
Hey Shane. If im not looking to use this solely for amp simulation but rather to add some mid and character to my Vox AC15 hand wired amp would it work well in conjunction with that in the sense of adding the characteristics of the two together? Or would it more so completely take over the natural sounds of my amp?
I've also got an AC15 and wondering the same thing. Would like to get some Fender-ish tones through the amp.
I guess it would be redundant to run of these through my Fender amp... do you guys think it would be better to run it through something super clean, like a keyboard amp or PA?
You can run these into your amp 100%. Unless you have an actual '57 Tweed Deluxe and can crank it anytime, shouldn't be too redundant.
Okay, so I’ve been looking at a lot of amp in a box pedal demos recently, and joyo never came up. I just looked up the British models price expecting the usual $250 to $350 price range and found it was less than $70 Canadian... WTF??? Why are these so under represented??
The ac is fuller than the marshall but all are awesome! Great playing Shane!
I have a Hiwatt Custom 50 would the vox one work ok with this amp
why not, th Hiwatt is so adaptable in my opinion, its so clean and punchy and will take pedals and amp sim pedals well
Can you use this with just a speaker?
Use joyo as preamp >power amp > speaker
