I’m 58. It’s amazing how technology has created a pedal that sounds so much like an amp, that I would use it through the p.a. and leave my amp at home. You could never get a good direct tone 20 years ago. I just got the American sound a few days ago. I love it.
I got this pedal like four years ago. Initially I thought about collecting all of them in the series (so far I had the California and the American), but this golden banana-coloured one was the definitive one in the whole recipe, and I discarded cooking the remaining ones. It can do it all, be it cleans, dirt, obviously royal stuff... I don't use it much these days, though, since I changed my setup for something more flexible to just stomp on and make changes on the spot. I saw some mods to fully disable its analog cab emulation and just use better-sounding external IRs instead, but I never cared to try it.
I've heard about those mods too and I must admit I've been tempted but I've found running IRs after the units sounds pretty good anyway so I've never bothered. I may do it eventually though, we shall see 😜
Adding the cab IR, it really brings up the midrange. I wonder if you could accomplish that by bringing up the mid and high knobs some...or adding a 10 band EQ pedal?
I have the Joyo American pedal and I absolutely love it. I bought the AC solely on what I found out from videos like this and I'm expecting a similar outcome. The timing here couldn't be funnier. I recently bought the Boss GT 1000 Core which has an amazing amp modelling function. After a, "Like for like" comparison the Joyo won hands-down. It's just more warm, more amp, and more real. No disrespect to Boss because I love their stuff but I'll be favouring the Joyo's above their modellers. Pedals that cost around £35 each? I don't even want to ask.
The joyo sims punch well above their price point for sure. There's a reason I still own them despite having fancy modellers at my disposal. The early days of this channel used the American and British sound as the amp sim too and people loved the tone 👍
I've always leaned towards rat style distortions or big muff style tones for Pink Floyd lead work. You can get some nice saturated lead tones out of this, but there are better options to nail the specific tone.
Yeah, it can go at the front end of your amp and it almost acts like a very specific EQ and drive pedal which gives a Vox voice to your fender amp. You could place it in the FX loop and it'll make that effect even stronger or you can run it direct into a PA or interface to get a vox tone with no amp required. Hope this helps 👍
Do you record that with a mic? I guess this Joyo amp pedals have built in cab sim. What do you think of running this through an amp and a speaker like an overdrive pedal?
This was recorded into an amp model on the hx stomp, so pretty much like running it into the front of an amp. The built in cab sim with all of these pedals isn't good enough to run DI, I would always use an external IR loader if running direct
I read about the gear you used in the description and just have one question. How did you demo this pedal through patch and instrument cables without guitar or amplifier?
@@MetalHeadPyro510 most of the time I use a hx stomp with amp models. In the early days, I used the American sound into a desk with IRs running in the software. Pretty sure by this point, it's the HX stomp 👍
@BudgetPedalChap ill be receiving this pedal to test out on the clean channel of two different marshall heads. I have two different 412 cabs. One has t75 celestions and the other g12k100s. The brit cosm in my Roland cube turned me on to the vox sound which sounds very doom heavy metal when boosting mids voice with high dialed back. I just hope it will sound close going into the front input of both marshalls, if not, I will try boosting the front end of the joyo. If neither works, I'll try running it at the end of my pedal chain to change the marshall clean into a vox clean with mids cranked on pedal. I plan to test a boss turbo distortion into the joyo. If nothing works, I give up.
@@MetalHeadPyro510 let me know how you get on. I've had good luck running it into the front end of another amp to give it a more voxy tone so I don't see why it's not going to work out for yourself. Keep me posted 👍
I have one, great tones on the cheap. This line is probably joyos best. I'm most partial to the American sound, which I believe to be joyo's absolute best pedal, but the ac tone is great too.
They do something different for each pedal. With this one, it goes from a cleaner sparkly cleaner voicing to a mid rich gainy voicing. With others, it takes you through those types of amp through the ages. I think the American is supposed to sound like a champ at one end and a bassman at the other. They really bring these pedals to life. Hope this helps 👍
@@boimesa8190 I don't know for sure, but I would say they likely alter the EQ of the signal going into the amplification stage. Adding more low mids and bass will also alter the gain as lower frequencies push amplifiers to drive more easily.
I haven't tried it with the katana, but I've used a few of these joyo amp sims in the dying end of an amp to give a nice amp like flavour and it's worked great. I don't see why it shouldn't work for the katana 👍 if you do get one, let me know how you get on
