Honestly to all these people who believe all gamers are like this need to get help themselves I'm not saying that that there aren't people with serious problems like the ones brought up but to the majority of us it's just a hobby we enjoy our hobby just like one would enjoy drawing or watching sports
Video games stimulate the mind more than the majority of TV programs. It annoys me that so many people accept television but dismiss computer games as degenerative.
I suppose his dad would want him to do what 'normal' 20 year olds do? Going out to bars, drinking, picking up girls? I say playing video games is a harmless hobby that you can learn from. Stuff like this just makes parents paranoid about their kid's hobbies. I'm 27 and I love video games!
What people doesn't know , that in gaming its like the real world , you meet new people every day , you have some down times and fun times... the only different that its fun to do it . i'm addicted to gaming and i'm proud of it
My dad used to limit my gaming time to weekends only. Then I moved to my mothers house. Which means, that there is no limit what so ever. My school grades shot up, when I moved to my mothers house. I need at least, 1 hour of vgames to relieve stress.
there is nothing wrong with gaming as long as your grades stay high. My family rule runs that I can do whatever the hell i want as long as I get at least 90 UMS in every subject. (90 UMS means that I have already achieved an A grade (80 UMS), but I am at least halfway in between that A grade boundary and 100%. eg. A grade boundary is 85%, 90 UMS is therefore 92.5%.)
Don't be surprised when he tests clean on drugs. Addictions of all kinds including alcohol, gambling, internet and gaming alters the brain just like drugs. Instead of blaming drugs, we should seek how to best counsel addiction in our youth.
They just had to pick a casual, druggy-looking guy. It doesn't seem like the father tried to talk it out with him. Just "no more gaming!"... *takes computer* "There! Now no more gaming!"... *son games elsewhere* "Nothing more I can do. He needs counselling." And the news is so biased. As if he can't get into university if he games a lot. "He thinks that..."
I was kinda the same, acheivements in games don't mean shit in reality. I still play games only minor or in moderations. But I never play big ass quest games. I paint portraits, pump iron, film minor short films, write stories these days.
I think people are not understanding that gaming compulsion(in my opinion, addition is not the right word for it), or any form of compulsion can be traced back down to underlying problems. It's not because they choose to game for long periods of time, it's there to fill something that may be missing or broken. People/society seriously need to start looking into the underlying problems instead of blaming every new form of media for their problems. Just because you lack understanding in something, doesn't mean it's the cause of all problems that relate to it. Internet cafes are there for the social sense. It's kind of like if people got together in a room and talked for a few hours, and doing activities like watching movies/playing twister. Is there a real difference? No. You're burning time in both and having fun, yet no one complains about the sitting around and talking to friends/doing non-computer related activities.
well thats not true i play video games like 12 hours a day and never go outside but i go to school the reason why i gave up reality over virtuallity is because the real world will judge you on how you look, and alot of idiots,
Gaming addiction ruins lives, people have lost their partners, unhealthy amount of time wasted on virtual nothingness, you actually got gamers who just drink and smoke all day thinking they are some kind of professional streamer wannabe. Youcan play videogames sure, but as soon as you play over 5 hours a day you got a problem. Plus all the rage induced by gaming, the unhealthy amount of money spend in games through microtransactions, the majority of gamers are unhealthy and cannot even Cook a proper meal or are socially awkward irl but on the internet they create a persona and say things they never would irl. They think being good in a videogame is a life achievement and gets them cloud. And they are all depressed. They also lack the discipline to quit gaming, and even skip irl events like birthdays etc to keep gaming and they say they are socialising what a joke. They live in the virtual world and neglect their life, their one and only life.
I love video games but o couldn’t imagine playing all day every day. I’m a guitarist and if I had the choice I’d rather be practicing and playing gigs than playing video games
I got addicted to gaming but I made my OWN decision to quit. Also, my definition of addiction is very different than "several hours a day sometimes more than once"
It's different because 1. It's paper book not the screen. 2. Reading helps your brain learn new words and make it more productive. 3. Spending a lot of time on screen damages your eyes 4. If you play at night it tricks your brain that it's day time.
@@Nova-T4G at least in video games, imagination comes to life. And people cut down trees to make the paper for books. So the process of making books require cutting some life of the earth.
The truth is that high school students aren't really all that "free" in general. There are things they are expected to do with their free time, and it's frequently not what they want to be doing. Perhaps gaming is a scapegoat which brings out a larger issue that was already long present.
If it affects your life negatively it's an addiction for you. If it doesn't then it is probably not. However, you can't disregard gaming addiction as not being real just because you have not experienced it.

I play mostly old arcade based games every now and then. I cant stand the overkill lengthy strategy, WOW, modern warfare stuff etc. Moderation is the key for me, in one week I only play like 2 hours max. Years ago I was on the stuff night and day, really busted me up in an education and academic sense, now Ive wised up.
This just shows the level of stupidity human beings can stoop to, really the kid seems to know all too well he doesn't have a problem. He's right if he played sports or read books for hours on end people would think that's great but if he plays a video game for hours on end he must be addicted. Even though the average casual gamer usually plays 5 hours daily.
Video games are only a problem if the the person playing them only wants to play games all day everyday and causes depression from it. Usually doesnt happen the first 10 years of playing but then your old and all you do is play your game all day everyday and everything else is just in the way of gaming which will cause misery when you cant go into the world you created instead of living in this sick world. Balance is key, if you cant balance it then its addiction. Dont play for a week and if your fine then your fine.
personally parents that demand there child to join club and sports they don't want to do is not a good parent in my eyes. encourage your kid in what they like doing as long as they are still doing good and it is not taking away from there school.i played a few sports in the early HS years. but i stopped because i got board.saw no future in it. spent my time doing things that truly gave me joy. and still did the same in school. like i said time management. don't let the game play you.
Does it throw your life out of balance? "...some games are innocent, and if pursued for pastime there is no harm. But there is danger that pastime may degenerate into waste of time. Waste of time is not acceptable..." ~ Abdul-Baha, Baha'i Faith
@GRKiller That isn't entirely true. Gaming causes emotional responses, emotional responses are governed by brain chemistry. In fact all addiction including substance addiction is the result of attempting to trigger the chemical rewards offered by the brain, not the substance or activity itself.
he makes a really valid point with playing sports for hours on end, gaming is something most parents don't understand and so they get frightened by it and see it as a massive negative in their child's life
No, no, no. Don't blame gaming for your failures in life. Blame yourself. I can be considered a "game addict" myself, I love playing video games but I'm still successful.
Video gaming isn't a problem if it is done in moderation, just like any hobby out there. To be honest however, video games offer a lot of benefits that can help you. I won't list them here, but you can do a little research yourself on the subject. I myself am an avid gamer, playing them ever since I was a child. I'm 19 now and in college to become a Medical Assistant and eventually an RN. I've never regretted a moment of it.
gaming ruined my life i was playing games since the age 6 so its been a while it also effected my school it effected my school terrible i was send out of school on low level now i m stoping gaming forever and focus on study and sports nothing els .i also hope to reach university if i quite gaming
The same thing happened with me. I would say its the reason i lost my job too. If your going to school in a serious major and you are of average intellect, then you wont be able to keep up with curriculum. IF you have mentally demanding job that requires your full attention even when your home, then gaming will wreck havok on your time.
A lot of parents, and other people around the student, more-or-less demand that they be active in clubs, sports, etc. You sound like an exception to that general rule.
Gaming is NOT an addiction, it is a passion. I mean ffs you can be addicted to your sport, job etc. and people don't give a shit. But when you start playing a video game which in some cases can even make you more intelligent, then that's a big no no.
People who find gaming as an addiction so badly they cannot stop are most likely suffering from a disorder or something. Seriously, I play games and stop playing whenever I feel like. Its kinda sad how many people may call you addicted because you spend one day gaming 5 hours in a row... I mean seriously, perhaps we are just playing because we are bored, because we just came from school etc. Gaming is not exactly dangerous... its just a way to sphere some time ;)
I play 4-8 hours a day. Were not isolated, we have headsets that we use to talk to our friends. My parents both play video games, there's nothing wrong with it. If you're gonna make news, then actually do research on the topic. #StopTheWarOnGames
@xLycosax I'm saying it's ridiculous that things that are obviously non addictive (as in there is no chemical secreted by gaming that creates an addiction) are called "addictions". I dont call LeBron James a basketball addict because he likes basketball. He's just doing something he enjoys, same as this kid.
Staying on the computer is not like being addicted to sports. Playing stimulates the brain. But online gaming fills your head withs swords guns etc. which rots the brain. Playing online for 5 hours is sitting and clicking but moving is better.
I bet most if these people who say games make people addicted never played the game and aren't responsible people. Those parents who just leave their child with an inaporpreate. I know parents who bye M rated games for their kids even though the clerks warn the parents of the content. Come I. People gaming addiction isn't real. People want to fill the void but SOCIETY IS PRESSURING THEM!!!! I mean really it's because something is wrong In a persons life. A 'healthy' suddently becoming a 'game addict' ment that the 'game addict' had something in their life that was bad and they didn't show it to other. Come on half of u people who say gaming addiction is real probably haven't even addressed the real problem
Yeah everyone is addicted to something. I guess it's just a matter of how far you take it. If it starts to piss off someone in your family then you should slow down after all family is more important than a game or addiction. These kids could be skipping doing drugs... just saying.
Bedroom culture was such a huge thing back then and parents didn't seem to realize what they were doing. The idea that a child should be left alone in a room with the internet and a computer is just baffling. It's born out of an entire generation of parents that just didn't know how to say no to their children. I find it disrespectful to live in your parents' house at the age of 20 and to spend that time sitting in front of a computer screen. This kid should have a job and should be contributing to his family's household. If he doesn't like their rules or their concerns, then move out and get an apartment. It's an entire generation of emotionally stunted kids and they don't know how to fix themselves. Their parents just didn't show them how.
How many hours are they playing? also i have a meme uses gadgets for school activities (10 hours):ehhh uses gadgets for gaming(10 hours): Hey you are addicted! You are banned!
@GrandDesignsSims I am not addicted to my computer even though I spend the same amount of time as addicts. The reason is because I can pull myself away from the game and do something with my family, cleen up something around the house. I do not need to get to that next level as soon as possable, sure when I am in the midle of a game I would like 5 mins to complete it but after that I get up and do whats needed.
They say "20-year old son" and then later call him a "teenager" wtf. If he is 20, kick him out of the house if you don't like the man he has become. And why is a 20 year old still in high school? I have so many questions.
why do they hate seeing their son enjoying doing something like that too much? if a kid plays the guitar all day you don't see his parents calling him an addict, he is just "talented".. unless playing games hurts the kid its just a hobby, and hobbies are meant to kill time.. the father is not being overprotective of his son, hes being an idiot!
This kid doesnt have a problem!!! So instead of playing video games making friends for 3-4 hours a night they would rather have him playing foot ball or watching tv for 4 hours. Neither are productive, i think he is fine and he is going to college and putting school first! its not like he is going to kill himself if he doesnt play, he just plays for fun in his free time which he has a lot of!
Exactly, you can play basket ball all damn day so you can learn how to entertain the crowd and that is more than accepted. This kid tries to have fun and entertain himself with his friends on a online gaming community and that raises questions? Either they picked the wrong kid to interview or, a 2 decade difference is becoming more and more of a problem in the social world these days. It's sad really.
Oh please, gaming is just another sport like chess or soccer. No one would care if a person spent hours a day playing those games, hell, most would applaud their commitment. However, if a person spends hours a day playing a digital game, suddenly they're an addict. OH NOES!!! A word of wisdom to any parents out there... If your kid is skipping school to play video games, it's not because there is something wrong with the games. It's because there is something wrong at school.
@Chris180Z Theres a song by a country singer named Brad Paisley about just that, go figure. ... and you completely missed my point. ANYTHING can be "addictive" (and yes, I know dudes who have dropped classes in college in order to go play pickup basketball games), the media just chooses to go after games since their target audience (middle aged people) loves to see it.
So wait doing something you love constantly is bad? Sure I play on and off throughout my day, I spend most of my time behind my computer and xbox but that dosent mean im adicted does it? It just means I am doing something that I find fun, Im not fat, sure im not fit but I am health, I go to school, I constantly get up and spend 5 mins with family making conversation, Get out of my room at were my family is in the lounge. Go bck to my room at about 7 most nights.
People watch tv for hours on end and nobody bats an eyelid, but a soon as somebody does the same with video games and everybody loses their mind.
Yep!

Notice how all of these game addicts are suburban 18 to 20ish year olds... I wonder what could be the cause..
@GrandDesignsSims Addiction isnt about how much you do something but wether you can stop doing it if needed to.
there is nothing wrong with gaming as long as your grades stay high.
He needs counselling."
And the news is so biased.
Good for you buddy. Respect.
I got addicted to gaming but I made my OWN decision to quit. Also, my definition of addiction is very different than "several hours a day sometimes more than once"
Bless you
@@evertvalkenburg1977 You've made me return to this comment just as I was starting to feel the urge to start playing again... Bless you!! haha :)
I used to be addicted to gaming, then, my addiction just stopped all of a sudden
He’s 20 years old!!! Not long ago he could have been 2-4 years younger and storming the beaches of Normandy!
Your content is great!
*Reads books for 10 hours a day* Yeah that’s fine
*Plays games for 10 hours a day* gaming addiction! gaming addiction! gaming addiction!
It's different because 1. It's paper book not the screen. 2. Reading helps your brain learn new words and make it more productive. 3. Spending a lot of time on screen damages your eyes 4. If you play at night it tricks your brain that it's day time.
@@Nova-T4G
at least in video games, imagination comes to life.
Andrew was really spitting some facts

Try excelling at some sport rather than playing fake virtual video games... That is actually much better.
I hate it when people misunderstand gamers and games.
If he is keeping up his grades and getting of the computer for atleast 10-20 minutes that is not a gaming addiction.
10-20 minutes? In 24 hours? You are highly addicted
he makes a really valid point with playing sports for hours on end, gaming is something most parents don't understand and so they get frightened by it and see it as a massive negative in their child's life

thats a future meme
No, no, no. Don't blame gaming for your failures in life. Blame yourself. I can be considered a "game addict" myself, I love playing video games but I'm still successful.
finally someone who actually gets it
Video gaming isn't a problem if it is done in moderation, just like any hobby out there.
IF you have mentally demanding job that requires your full attention even when your home, then gaming will wreck havok on your time.
i do the same thing but i can control myself. i think that not being able to control yourself is when it becomes an addiction.
This guy is a real gangster 😎 🔥 I admire him, much respect
I play video games a lot and I passed all my final exams and got a math reward
A lot of parents, and other people around the student, more-or-less demand that they be active in clubs, sports, etc. You sound like an exception to that general rule.
Gaming is NOT an addiction, it is a passion. I mean ffs you can be addicted to your sport, job etc. and people don't give a shit. But when you start playing a video game which in some cases can even make you more intelligent, then that's a big no no.
Now these kids making millions playing games how times have changed man
People who find gaming as an addiction so badly they cannot stop are most likely suffering from a disorder or something.
We talk about video game addiction umm.... How about iPhone addiction because that's happening more
I can see both sides of this argument.
Video gamers is just entertainment just like movies and other things
Smart kid. Ignorant parents.
If you're kid is going to school, getting off school and playing video games all day, I fail to see a problem with that.
you can play games at our computer labs at school before school starts XD
He’s 30 now omg
Owwww:))) yeah
Media: Playing Video Games for too long can cause problems
Also Media: ✨It is fine to work 60-90 hours/weeks✨
Gaming Addiction = COMPLETE OVER REACTION
***** Very true indeed. However I have seen a video on here saying VIDEO GAMES caused suicide. I mean come on, ITS NOT THE GAME ITS THE PERSON
Meanwhile in South Korea...
Theres no such thing of game addiction.
I do know some game companies try to make the video games addictive so that you will buy the next version of that game
How many hours are they playing?
also i have a meme
uses gadgets for school activities (10 hours):ehhh
uses gadgets for gaming(10 hours): Hey you are addicted! You are banned!
Me who plays minecraft for 10h a day:
👁👄👁
As long as they’re good enough to make money off it idgaf
@GrandDesignsSims I am not addicted to my computer even though I spend the same amount of time as addicts. The reason is because I can pull myself away from the game and do something with my family, cleen up something around the house. I do not need to get to that next level as soon as possable, sure when I am in the midle of a game I would like 5 mins to complete it but after that I get up and do whats needed.
Thats how it starts and it lures you in
He's 20, and his parents took his computer away? He's a grown man! Jesus christ, man up and take back your shit.
It depends on you as a person, anything can be considered a "poison" really.
They say "20-year old son" and then later call him a "teenager" wtf. If he is 20, kick him out of the house if you don't like the man he has become. And why is a 20 year old still in high school? I have so many questions.
Why not
My son 11 year old quit games 7 weeks ago and now we focus on basketball, we record our journey
why do they hate seeing their son enjoying doing something like that too much? if a kid plays the guitar all day you don't see his parents calling him an addict, he is just "talented"..
unless playing games hurts the kid its just a hobby, and hobbies are meant to kill time.. the father is not being overprotective of his son, hes being an idiot!
To much of anything is bad, it that simple.
I'm still remembering 1983 Coleco vision playing Donkey Kong for an hour and thought that was too long.
If kids can't use a computer are a smart phone then they definitely have no interest in playing video games because it's too complicated
Well, sometimes you might just learn other stuff while playing games.
I learned english from Team Fortress 2.
That makes gaming addiction still bad
