Goatvarro It is extremely dangerous too considering the amount of perverts that are out there. No child at that age should be allowed to have their OWN tablet or phone.
Goatvarro much to young ( i got one in 3rd ONLY BECAUSE i have to fly across the country to see family. And i go far from my parents a lot so i need to stay connected
I quit social media over 2 years ago and it is the most freeing thing i have ever done. I don't see me ever going back. I wish that people would just try it for a week to see how they feel at the end of it.
It's true; you see how successful your "friends" are and you feel like you're inferior. If you already struggle with depression, that effect is 10x stronger. You feel like you will never have a good enough body, a good enough job, a good enough family and that you'll never be good enough for a partner. Facebook increased my major depressive order so much, but since leaving, it has improved along with the help of meds.
there's studies that tell us kids under twelve shouldn;t use these devices at all as ladies says... I encounter countless phone zombies everyday in traffic, making my life dangerous, which really upsets me, not them, cos they don;t care about anything going on outside their apps, it's sad
Maaike Uijthoven : Yes I agree. My sister let my nephew play PC / PlayStation games from a young age. His addiction was obvious to everyone but her. She was the queen of denial. Guess what? The kid is his is 20s, she is divorced from his father, but she still goes to make him breakfast, at her ex-husbands house where he lives. I blame the parents. Your child will, hopefully, eventually grow up and despise you for being weak. People need to wake up.
Maaike Uijthoven why are you going after kids when this is mostly about you adults addicted to smartphones you should stop using it I got my smartphone when I was 10 and even I'm not addicted like what they are showing in this episode
i really don't care, just saying there are studies that say these things are bad esp for kids under twelve, you should read those first..only this past week i had about 20 traffic encounters with phone zombies, young and old, not just kids, but mostly kids
Yeah and take away tvs, computers and phones, and you know what society blamed things on? whatever was popular at the time. Did you know back in the victorian era, people used to complain about people's obsession with short hand written messages as oppossed to long well thought out, articulated letters and people have written complaints identical to the one's use we today for phones? that peoples faces are now always in short messages instead of reading long articulated letters. So....the pattern. People will continually critique and pass judgement on the things that orientate a majority of our time. Be it, TV, Computers, Phones, what is the actual difference, I could spend a month of my life watching historical documentaries on youtube, is that any less valuable than reading history books at a library? It certainly would take up more time if I did and far less convenient. Phones engage us into social settings that we would never be exposed to other wise. Which is good and bad for each specific reason. Internets cult of out rage created SJW's and also Critical Thinkers and Skeptics and everyone else. the good and bad are always present with everything. Long term effects of phone useage, try the long term effects of sports injuries from excessive sports activities that people force onto their kids thinking its good for them.
parental responsibility was thrown out by liberals making parenting methods that involve asking babies (even infants) if they want their diapers changed. it's neglect and it's hiding under this idea that we should treat babies like adults and not take care of them unless they ask you to. we're talking about babies walking around with constant diaper rash because they didn't ask to have their diaper changed so to do so would be a breach of trust. oh and don't think that a baby crying means they want you to take care of their needs because if they cry it means don't take care of them. i'm not even making this up. it's a real movement happening now primarily among young liberal parents.
last decade we were addicted to tvs, the decade before that we were addicted to radio. people dont seem to care as much about smoking or alcohol though, despite them being actual addictions people cant just drop like that.
My neighbor(s) have 5 children and my region recently had a big snow storm almost a week ago. I work from home and during this entire length of time the children have only been out to play once. Why were they outside? The power went out for several hours so they had nothing to do. To me this is crazy. When I was a kid I spent hours outside during the winter.
@edwardschlosser1 I shoveled snow for dough while experiencing minor frostbite, mowed lawns and delivered newspapers as well while cherishing a 5 dollar bill or whatever. My contributions to Social Security thereafter started @ age 15 Lifeguarding/maintenance for the city pool. Since then, I have served in the Military, Fed Gov. and now State (Indiana). Each Generation is Different but I never witnessed such a lack of interaction and or attachment to the cell/smart phones in the last 2 to 4 years. It's not just young people with the cell phone addiction but people of all ages as well.
We had to literally stop someone from walking in front of a bus at an intersection in Brisbane once as they were too busy on their phone. There is more to life than likes and such.
My little sister is ten, and my parents ignorants bought her a phone. Now she spends only a quarter of her day sleeping and the rest on her phone. Really disgusts me. She doesn't even goes to say hello to my dad when he come home from work. Kids under 13 shouldn't be given access to this devices. I didn't even get a phone until 13, what make her more capable to have a phone? This tech ruined family interaction.
I was given my first real smart phone and iPad when I was in 4th grade and I still manage to pray the rosary twice a day and once a day for the chaplet of divine mercy. That’s just one of the examples and I still have to practice my musical instruments. See? It depends on the person and not on the gadget. Lol hahaha
A lot of times, it's just more convenient to give a kid a tablet or a phone just to help them behave in public, sadly. I've seen many such children who spend all day on these devices, failing to interact with the environment (other people, toys, games, books, etc.) but becoming eloquent on social media or games, like the son in this family. As was mentioned, giving him something to do outside of the tablet helps him cut his time down. The parents need to lead by example and put their phones down, too. My parents did the same thing, and they used to force me to read, interact with people professionally at a very young age, answer the home phone, etc., and they always led by example. Kids idolize their parents, and these parents can't place all of the blame on social media or the devices social media platforms use.
Akshay Patel There are little children who are clearly addicted to computers, smartphones and tablets. There are ones who get on their parent's computers or smartphones and post inappropriate comments on news sites or other channels on UA-cam. It makes it annoying for us adults. I agree with you.
That little boy looks dead inside. When I quit social media there was a lot of "I'll miss your posts and photos." Most of these people are people I know in real life. Some live far away, but they could easily text or call me. Nothing. Very few have made efforts to keep in touch. I recently switched to a flip phone to curb my mindless surfing. I'm liberated.
We {as a nation} encourage people who don't plan {think} to reproduce and penalize those who do by wealth redistribution. I have family members at both ends of this spectrum and watch kids of similar ages, behaving completely different. It's amazingly sad. We used to tell people not to depend on calculators, now AI programs their impulses.
nonstop n unlimited harassment by facebook ever since i got this smart phone in feb.early this year.postings unlimited no. of strangers all over my screen soliciting my friendship that i've absolutely not interested in! delete postings requested were totally ignored...shame !!
I feel like social media is also making all of us more superficial/shallow or narcissistic, on top of everything else mentioned in this video. I've gotten rid of Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat. Can't seem to get away from UA-cam and Twitter. Although I will say, I use Twitter for political news and UA-cam mostly for news and documentaries so I'm not completely wasting my time doing nothing.
It's a good question. A little kid shouldn't have a tablet or at least access to one whenever he wants. Realistically, neither should the teens since they've shown they lack impulse control and the capability to make a sound judgment call when it comes to turning off their phones.
@@MikeTXBC byyourlogic no teens should have access to a phone , as well as the majority of adults. When it comes to phones almost nobody has impulse control
@@McLovinMods Technically, I agree with your statement. Most of the so-called adults I've met haven't psychologically progressed beyond high school (if they're lucky).
Thank you. I needed this. It was sometime after 1am on the UK when I was about to switch off my phone when I saw this pop up in my notifications (ironically!). It's literally got to a point where I'm wasting my life on Facebook. It's so addictive I check it first thing in the morning, ignore people's texts and WhatsApp and don't want to speak to others. I've noticed I've gotten lazier, I get frustrated plus my attention span has gotten so short. Normally I'll read a few news websites but I couldn't even concentrate to read. Not only that, but it's like God keeps pointing out certain things I'm meant to be getting on with instead and I keep ignoring. This video has made up my mind. I'm old enough to remember life before the Internet was needed for everything so I just want a steadier pace. Use it for important things like events etc instead of splurging my life in it. Not only that, but didn't they notice a certain swearword in full view on this? It's meant to be a family show!
LeArtiste D : I dumped Fakebook years ago. I am fine with quick texts but if you want to deal with me you need to meet me in person or talk to me. FYI: YOU are wasting your life on Fakebook. Time to wake up.
I'm legit addicted to my phone! I looked at my UA-cam stats one day and it said I watched UA-cam for 6 hours within 24hrs. I was like how tf! I have a serious problem!!!
The mom says she's worried about the study exposing her as a bad mom. I wouldn't call her a bad mom because she lets her 8 y/o spend up to 10 hours a day on his tablet, but I would say she is neglectful, as is his father. They're letting his device spend time with him, so they don't have to.
People need to step up and actually parent, stop throwing tablets and phones at your kids. Phones are pacifying people to not care about real world issues. Stop enjoying moments.Like concerts, nature etc.......People stop enjoying real life. Its funny that people think smart phones make them more productive when in reality it makes them much less productive,
I left social media abt 1 year ago and I LOVE it. I chose to bc of anxiety disorder and depression; I was on FB and I would be reading/seeing pictures of people's children, their achievements, etc. while and simultaneously feeling like more of a failure than I already felt I was because I was struggling to get depression and finances under control. I don't care to look at my phone. I have to leave it off of my person at work for HIPAA reasons, and I don't even check it but once or twice a day to respond - selectively - to my best mate's text msgs and to make sure that there is nothing super important (like a txt about my bank account or a medical emergency). I also play solitaire when i need to entertain myself in some other fashion and have forgotten a book or my sketch pad.
The problem here is not the phone. It's human behavior. Just like guns, knives, or anything else. "I need my phone". WHAT FOR? To gossip on facebook all day? Again, priorities at the wrong place.
Uh Joe, Guns, knives and or Sling shots are a totally different spectrum Dude. You are Right regarding Human Behavior, but have never witnessed a person and persons addicted to a device such as a cell phone in comparison with a weapon.
Tips: Turn every notification OFF (except maybe phone call). You'll end up spending waaaay less time on your phone. Thats what I did and it helped a lot.
I started feeling anxious just watching this video... but I guess I needed to watch it. Even though I have no children. I think I needed to watch it. One topic that should have been mentioned in this video is how texting or visiting any internet site, interferes with a person's ability to drive a motor vehicle safely.
I feel like an old man among others around the same age but I'm only in my mid 20s...I don't do any of those...Only a few friends of mine don't extensively use their mobile devices, the common thing we share is probably we all don't have social media or barely ever use them. The ironic part is I'm a software engineer currently working on mobile development...
My cousin and spoke about this very issue last night. If I could get away with it and only stay in touch with family and friends via email I would ditch my phone before the day is over. Society functioned just fine without cell-phones.
Reason we Americans you Canadians and rest of the world is addicted are games, texting, and apps. Its also technology that allows us to do anything even order food at restaurants for pickup or delivery.
I ordered pizza while traveling through the US when I wasn't even sure what town our hotel was in 😂 we normally go to places like diners but Dominos had no problem finding us. And we found the hotel on hotels.com before we got off the highway and my phone got us there with Google maps
UA-cam is doing something and on my UA-cam it allows me to set a reminder to take a break after as frequently as I choose. The problem is is that I end up just ignoring it. I'm typically on my phone when I'm doing housework, so I watch out listen videos to make the time pass by.
yea right try telling that to companies because the companies literally hire psychologists, addiction specialists, etc to make there products as addictive as possible trust me the cards are very much stacked against you
I'm 19, and I am proud to say I am not addicted to my phone. I barely use social media on it (maybe 3 minutes a day)... I use my cell phone mainly for calling and texting, and other productivity stuff (like calendars and banking). Most other stuff I do on my desktop- even Facebook, I prefer to do it on a computer. The nice thing about doing things on your desktop is that it's not constantly with you, so you can only check it at certain times. If I was given a flip phone instead of my iPhone, I would have no problem with that
Get a flip phone and take it to the next level. I have one guy who has a flip phone working for me, the other two guys have smart phones. The flip phone guy is by far my best worker, because he is never on his phone.
my 2019 goal is to use my phone just to answer messages and calls. maybe post a pic. but live the moment and just enjoy life as we did before smartphones existed
I try my best to get my children off their electronics. Every day, I tell them, “put all electronics away” for a specific period of time throughout the day. It works a bit. “Well, we’re bored dad” Me; “that’s good. Being bored is good. You’re a kid, figure it out.”
These shows make tech out to be all bad. But in the last year I have learnt to play the piano, speak and foreign language and improved my maths skills using apps. I would never have been able to afford private lessons but apps made learning more accessible for me.
Why do they single out smart phones? This should apply to personal computers in general whether it's a desktop, laptop, tablet, or mobile. In addition, the most important factor is a breakdown of the _type of usage_ - viewing/listening/reading non-interactive content, writing public content, accessing social media services, playing games, and simply talking with people.
Mshojat Because the Smartphones are so small and handy! We carry them with us everywhere! More potential for addiction! They have become a Necessity in our lives!
tundratomo : I agree. I am adult. I didn't have a smart phone until 3 years ago. I do use it daily as a mini computing device. But I don't use to play games. I use it to check my bank account, investments, email, news. But I am an adult and over the age of 50.
I would have one, but the price of mobile data in Canada is far higher than what I consider reasonable. Canada's mobile data rates are like the highest in the world or something. That said if I did have one, I still don't see myself using it much, since I'm not a fan of most mobile games, nor most social media services. While I don't have a mobile, I spend copious amounts of time on desktop PC instead, so it's not a world of difference.
Watching this on a tablet. Don't have a smart phone or PC. Don't use social media at all. Watch selected You Tube, email for basic communication, google, word, excel for work. I have a Trac Phone from 2005, flip phone with text, can take photos, but not on internet. Suits me fine.
I used to walk a lot in down town Seattle, I call it the city tilted heads. Almost ran in to me on three different occasions. I felt like the only person looking straight ahead.
We live near Seattle and every time we go into the city there are at least 80% of people walking with their phones if not more. Not paying ANY attention .. walking across the streets without looking, it's insane. There is ZERO awareness of their situations. It just looks like a conveyor belt of robots.
I've not used social media in a few weeks, and haven't been outside after sundown in about a week, Last night I checked the news feed and found out a cool moon phenomenon was going on, Which prompt me to go outside and check it out! I was once living at a place and the only time the wifi worked was after 6 PM!
Funny. My smartphone is usually somewhere in my car or my backpack - generally empty from me forgetting to plug it in. I hated mobile phones back in the early 90ies when they came up and that hasn't changed. There's nothing I really need the phone for except when I'm stuck in some ditch with a flat or when I'm out on a trail and something goes wrong. I much rather interact in person with people, so yeah, I might be the politically incorrect friend who shows up at the front door unannounced because I forgot to send a text that I'm coming over. Quick fix: set your phone to mute. That's my setting. I will check when I feel like it and that may be days...
Uwe Schroeder : Good for you. I am over 50. Rare for anyone to say they don't check their phone every 10 seconds. As far as showing up unannounced? Nope. Not at my house. At least call, first.
I agree but I’m not a fan of surprise company. I would say it’s just a generational difference but my grandmother is the same so It could just be the way I was raised.
I grew up when some people didn't even have a phone, much less would use it for something as trivial as saying you're coming over. So you'd just use the door bell for that. If someone opens, good. If the person opens and says "sorry have to time today" - good too (although that happened rarely). If nobody opened, just move on. I know, these days you have to send a text before you ring the bell or knock or even pull up the driveway. It really is a generation thing.
Having grown up in a world without mobile phones (just "the phone" on a wall or counter) gives me a different perspective on this as well. But there are many people fitting that description (like the parents in the clip) who still got sucked straight into the vortex. Everybody needs to turn off their phones, read the first chapter of Thoreau's Walden ("Economy"), and reflect on what they really need. P.S. I blame the X-Files.
@@yungmajin4860 There is always a place for Jesus - There is always a place for YOU in his heart - that is why he died for us. I also want to point out that it is written - but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.
@@Fromanotherearth Answer me this - what do you think would have happened if Jesus chose to listen to Peter when Peter told him that he should not go to Jerusalem to suffer many things and be killed ?
@@Fromanotherearth Your response is telling me you are unable to understand my point. Let me explain for you in an easier language. You wrote ‘ don’t bring religion into this ‘. What I understood from that is that YOU are telling me to stop telling people about Jesus. Now my response means that Peter did a similar thing to Jesus by telling him that he was not to go to the cross. Now if Jesus had listened to Peter in the same way you want me to listen to you , then no one would be able to be saved and inherit eternal life because the world would not have a saviour. JESUS was sent to save people from their sins - WE are here for the purpose of telling people about Jesus so they can go to Jesus and be healed and saved. There are people in this world that cannot be silenced no matter how much people scream and shout at them like a child who is having a tantrum because they cannot get their own way. Here is an example - And when he had said these things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. When he drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount that is called Olivet, he sent two of the disciples, saying, “Go into the village in front of you, where on entering you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever yet sat. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘The Lord has need of it.’” So those who were sent went away and found it just as he had told them. And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” And they said, “The Lord has need of it.” And they brought it to Jesus, and throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. And as he rode along, they spread their cloaks on the road. As he was drawing near-already on the way down the Mount of Olives-the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.” Now to respond to your latest message. It is also written in the Bible - Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me. Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.”
I'm just over a month since quitting social media. I'm so much happier. Took about 3 weeks before I stopped instinctively going for those icons. UA-cam is the only thing I use, mostly music, news, or self help channels.

I was at the hair salon where girl maybe 12 years old was getting her cut. I told my stylist how much I loved this young girls hair cut. She went from long hair to a Bob style. She seemed to love it too. As Her mom was getting her hair cut, the girl was in the reflection of the mirror where I sat. She had put a toque on and started to cry. I think it suddenly sunk in she had cut her long hair off. Her mom says "Jenny, have you posted it on Instagram? That will make you feel better after all your friends see it. You should Post it right now hun!" I felt like I was in the Twilight zone! Post it to make you feel better? Really mom? I wanted to say.
Alcohol addiction is less dangerous at this point in time, because at least we have laws preventing people from driving under the influence, no one throws a fit about DUI laws acting like they are horrible. No we have DUI laws to prevent us from serious harm or murder. Yet when laws preventing people from using their phones everyone gets angry and thinks its absurd. We should penalize car manufacturers for putting devices built inside the car,and require them to stop manufacturing built in tablets and a device thatll shut down your technology until your cars engine is shut off and stopped. People think that hands free and built in technology is safe, because why would they manufacture cars with these devices if they where dangerous? People are too trusting of car manufactures. Its NOT the device that matters its how it EFFECTS your brain when driving, hand free and Bluetooth is equal to that of hand held texting while driving..Its safer to drink and drive.
We´re going to talk about what we are supposed to talk about - flat earth, flying saucers, science, education, spirituality, manipulation of the electoral college, how the actor based reality was behind all the false flags, etc....we will know intuitively what to talk about and when, because that is what we are supposed to do. If you kid stays all day on the tablet the problem is you not the tablet, they go to the tablet because they have nothing to do or are bored so if you tell you kid to come with you to the park or to do any activity together, they won't stay on their phone because their not bored and they will do anything else happily kids under 7-8 should stay less than 1h on their phone/tablet anyway

Well said, I totally agree.
Akshay Patel There are little children who are clearly addicted to computers, smartphones and tablets. There are ones who get on their parent's computers or smartphones and post inappropriate comments on news sites or other channels on UA-cam. It makes it annoying for us adults. I agree with you.

I'm actually kinda like you!
The notification sounds throughout this video is driving me crazy. Lmao!
how sad.... Jesus died to give us life and we call our phone "its my life"

Jesus gave up his life to serve Lord Shiva. Not for u.
2 years later this is even more relivent.
